John Williams’ contractor and publisher JoAnn Kane Music Services have revealed through their Facebook page that the composer is currently working on the score to the The Book Thief, a film based on the best-selling novel by Markus Zusak.
Set in Nazi Germany, the film follows nine-year-old Liesel Meminger as she finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with her neighbors during bombing raids, as well as with the Jewish fist-fighter who hides in her basement.
The Book Thief has been directed by Brian Percival and stars Emily Watson, Geoffrey Rush, and Sophie Nélisse as the girl protagonist. Expected release date in the US is November 15, 2013
