Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Agree 100%. That's why Horner's more abstract approach to the mystery and horror of both the place and the creatures is more successful as score.Jerry must have just seen Star Wars when he scored Alien.Utter bollocks. How is this anything like STAR WARS?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX9VQFNaBdYhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdMgId1zkFMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV6AD1FuLGUhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx8bgcYNsQISorry, but Horner's approach is just a poor man's Goldsmith, Penderecki and Khachaturian. Sure, there's some nice moments dotted around, but ALIENS as whole it doesn't stand up anywhere near as well as the original. It was written in rush, and it shows.
Quintus 6,493 Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Alright calm down! This part is irrelevant to me:Sorry, but Horner's approach is just a poor man's Goldsmith, Penderecki and Khachaturian. Sure, there's some nice moments dotted around, but ALIENS as whole it doesn't stand up anywhere near as well as the original. It was written in rush, and it shows.I couldn't give two hoots about the fact that Horner lifted wholesale from others, nor that it was famously rushed - I only care about the score's effectiveness in the movie. Ridley Scott felt the same about Alien, apparently. Usually, the director knows best, particularly seasoned ones. Now get out of my face with your chronically music-centric views you obtuse clown!
A24 5,155 Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Don't ever watch that movie right after you have seen Blade Runner. You'll cry....I saw it (Someone To Watch over Me) in the theater at the time. Okay, he made this movie after Legend but I was shocked anyway. I was hoping he sorta would make up for Legend.
Jay 46,241 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Harry Gregson-Williams will be supplying additional score for Prometheus. Source is his official facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10150652206189021&id=13725844020&comment_id=21931558
Incanus 5,890 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Is this Zimmer-styled collaboration logic or did Streitenfeld run out of time or skills?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Double mediocre is still mediocre.
Incanus 5,890 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Double mediocre is still mediocre.Well that was my first thought but I wasn't going to post something so negative. Good of you to relief me of the burden. I agree.
A24 5,155 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Needless to say that James Cameron doing the sequel of Prometheus was an April Fools' joke.
Bellosh 4,531 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 This movie looks interesting.I loled to myself during the trailer. You see the vehicle driving in and then when everything is getting intense, you see the vehicle driving out. I dunno, I found it silly.
scallenger 665 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Not Harry-Gregson-Williams, too... ugh... no...Sorry, I just find him to be incredibly generic. There goes any real hope for a Goldsmith-like score. I just don't see it happening.
Thor 9,362 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Not a big fan of HGW either, but I presume his extra bits are going to mesh well with Streitenfeld's score. We'll know in time. No need to judge things before we've heard or seen it.
publicist 4,650 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 but I presume his extra bits are going to mesh well with Streitenfeld's score. Exactly. Zero and zero add up to what again?
Richard P 5,302 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 No saving HGW or Streitenfeld around here is there?Have to admit, I find HGW's work frequently average - his last few scores did nothing for me at all.Streitenfeld however I've found rather interesting since he got Robin Hood. The Grey may be no 'The Edge' but I still enjoy it, and I'll give his work on Prometheus a chance.
Jay 46,241 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 A bunch of new pictures:http://www.heyuguys....clusive-images/Ridley Scott is mad at the MPAA for giving his cut an R-rating when he felt it deserved a PG13:http://www.hollywood...Rating/23612948And finally, a bunch of footage was screened in London yesterday, and there are all kinds of reports about it:http://www.gizmodo.c...nd-its-awesome/http://www.cine-vue....reveal-and.htmlhttp://www.examiner....t-of-prometheushttp://movies.ign.co.../1222668p1.htmlhttp://www.pocket-li...-footage-revealDid anybody besides me have no idea Charlize Theron was in this film?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Dude, she was in the trailers!
Jay 46,241 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I'm continually intrigued by the film, everything I see/read hypes me moreI almost want to stop watching/reading anything so i don't get spoiled
Jonesy 55 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Sony releases the score (Available on June 5).http://www.amazon.co...ASIN=B007TBCTRK
A24 5,155 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Ridley Scott Promises Prometheus Theatrical Release Will be His Director's Cut “The cut that you’re gonna see in cinemas…it’s always the director’s cut, really,” Scott exclaimed before chatting up on the film’s run time. “I’ve only made a mistake once on cutting a film short — I won’t say what it is right now, because this is not the time — but I removed 17 minutes off a movie, and I didn’t ruin it, but it wasn’t [as effective]. In this instance, you got a pretty good version here, pretty good cut. We’re running at about — I think without the end titles, which normally run about four to five minutes — we’re running one hour, fifty-nine minutes and change. It’s very tight, it’s what it should be.”http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/54682/ridley-scott-promises-prometheus-theatrical-release-will-be-his-directors-cutAlex
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Michael Fassbender was brilliantly cast in this.
MrJosh 1,205 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 That was awesome!I'm continually intrigued by the film, everything I see/read hypes me moreI almost want to stop watching/reading anything so i don't get spoiledYeah, same here. I'm getting to that point where I'm afraid I'm going to spoil something....but it's hard not to read things about this movie. Can't wait to see it.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 This has a strong, and most likely very deliberate 2001: a Space Odyssey vibe...
Quintus 6,493 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I still have all pre-release publicity set to IGNORE. When I finally see this I'll truly be going in blind.
A24 5,155 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I thought the text is a little too obvious and clear (I like things to be more vague so that it can go in many directions), but then again, I suppose one shouldn't be too hard on 'virals'.Will Fassbender be able to create a new unforgettable android like Ash, Roy Batty and Bishop?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I do like that it does look completely unlike anything related to the Aliens franchise. But...it's very Kubrick...
A24 5,155 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Is it? Alien is the visual the dark side of 2001.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 The background have a futuristic 60's feel, and very sterile looking. As Alex indicated Alien is the opposite of 2001...
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 Yes, we already know Scott thinks "used and grungy future" look isn't interesting anymore. He said that himself.Karol
Maurizio 6,913 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Dunno, feels more like A.I.KarolThere are several things in this well-done viral that made me think of A.I. The shot with the fingerprint comes out directly from the first A.I. trailer: But it also reminded me of this:
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I thought the text is a little too obvious and clear (I like things to be more vague so that it can go in many directions), but then again, I suppose one shouldn't be too hard on 'virals'.Well it is supposed to be a sort of infomercial. So including hidden subtexts or being vague would perhaps not ring true.I am sure there will be more to the character.
A24 5,155 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I understand, but since these infomercials are being used as appetizers for the film, I would make 'm slightly more intriguing. None of the virals make me want to see the actual movie.
A24 5,155 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 One thing is clear, Michael Fassbender's android seems more 'primitive' than Ash or Bishop. You can tell he's an android.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Does he dream of electric sheep, Alex?
Wojo 2,458 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 One thing is clear, Michael Fassbender's android seems more 'primitive' than Ash or Bishop. You can tell he's an android. How can one tell this? Seriously. I don't see any androids in my daily life to use as a benchmark. Maybe one thinks he's just an Irish-German human playing a very calm and stolid individual with a deliberate way of speaking? It's once he sits down to play chess with himself or says things that set him aside from humans that I realize this.I don't recall any way of discerning that Ash was an android until he went berserk, ruptured, and began spraying milk everywhere; then it became kinda obvious. I think Bishop was less secretive about admitting what he was.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 When I first saw Michael Fessbender in X-Men First Class I immediately thought....he looks like an android.
MrJosh 1,205 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 When I first saw Michael Fessbender in X-Men First Class I immediately thought....he looks like an android.I thought to myself "he'd make a good Terminator"
Jay 46,241 Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 New Prometheus trailer: Those wishing to avoid spoilers may not want to watch, as it shows more than previous trailers have shown. Personally, I didn't find it to be too spoilerific, I still feel like there will be plenty of surprises when I see the film.I really like the LOOK of this film. Its some kind of cool blend of 70s and today. Its different from anything else coming out - could be influential.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 it does look well, it will look even better on blu
Jay 46,241 Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Better than the theater??Or do you just mean better than youtube?
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 I don't know, Jay... It eminds me of when I first watched the first Superman Returns teaser, for some reason. Looked awesome, but then it turned out... that was all there was. It's just this strange feeling this movie is not all it promises.Karol
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Better than the theater??Or do you just mean better than youtube?yesoften blu's look better on good set than they do on a large screen.
A24 5,155 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 One thing is clear, Michael Fassbender's android seems more 'primitive' than Ash or Bishop. You can tell he's an android. How can one tell this? Because he's closer to Data than to the androids we know from the Alien universe. Of course, it could be the viral (infomercial), maybe he'll be more human in the film.
