John Rutter

Quite possibly the ugliest composer who ever lived, John Rutter is quite famous, especially for his choral works.

I'm singing his Magnificat with my college choir tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with his music.  I've heard that he's more popular in America than he is in the UK.

Thoughts?  Opinions?

Universal 360

I don't know if this has been mentioned here or not.

It's a really interesting show that just opened at Universal Orlando.  It consists of memorable movie clips projected onto 3 large globes in the lagoon, with fireworks and laser effects.  It has a nice medley of memorable scores!  I think some composer/arranger took all the themes (many JW scores included) and wrote out an arrangement.  Listen for the interesting transition from Jurassic Park to ET!

Did you stay in the theatre through the credits?

Unfortunately, the people I saw the movie with weren't die-hard JW fans like me, so they only sat there for so long.  We ended up leaving during BOTH in the credits sequence.

The Mission Theme: Remix?

04 May 2005 - 12:34 AM

I was browsing a news themes site, and came across this.  I don't know if anyone else has seen/heard this or posted it here, but anyways....

"SEVEN NIGHTLY NEWS [AU]" CURRENT Theme
Seven Nightly News in Australia uses this weird version of John Williams' The Mision. They used to use the original, but have in recent years switched over to a sort of club mix of the original. There are actually a great amount of similarities between Australian TV news and American TV News. The National Nine News uses Cool Hand Luke, the theme used by many stations in the United States, as their theme. The Ten Evening News, for a while, used opening graphics that were more than just inspired by an open for the CBS Evening News. And over at Channel 9 they have, since 1978, their own version of 60 Minutes. Fortunately for them, they don't have to sit through Andy Rooney.

Here's a link to that site, too:

I just thought it was kinda wacky to hear The Mission in this style.  Thoughts?  Opinions?  Bueller?
