  1. There's an plane POV shot where you see that the spaceship is pretty much similar to CEOT3K
  2. And in a weird fourth-wall breaking in solo by John Powell, The Imperial march is now part of the SW Universe
  3. If they ever go back to the Old Republic era, there are two more of them, it's all Legends now but it could be brought back : Minch (who was the original name of Yoda in some early TESB draf!) and Vandar
  4. Is there going to be a softcover version of this book?
  5. My guess is once you are able to isolate almost every instrument now, you could "recreate" the score by remixing it using these tools. Pretty much how they did it for the Beatles. Isolate everything, clean all errors, punch it and remix it! It's not "real" anymore, but it's something... else.
  6. Star Wars - The Complete Recordings vol.1 : 1977-1983
  7. I love Richter (I have almost 20 releases by him), but I feel that he's going into the "Michael Nyman" direction, which is to somehow endlessy recycle everything into multiple variation that he uses on different soundtracks. I'm glad when any new work by him isn't that.
  8. Pretty much 99% of all released soundtrack work is to be ignored and isn't worth it, but the same can be said about every art ever made (including classical music!). At the same time, it's okay for me that Art in general isn't something always great and worth it. It's something somebody creates, and that's enough for me. Not everything we do has to have a meaning. The human species is different from everything on earth exactly for that... we are able to do things that aren't just for self-preservation.
  9. Is there anything on disc 3 that isn't on the two other CD's? Are those original album tracks remixes or alternate takes?
  10. The Face of Pan is a really beautiful arrangement.
  11. I'm a OSM subscriber, been there a hundred of times so I know the place a lot The levels were ajusted just a little bit for the second part, they lowered the highs also from the amplified parts (dialogue went a little bit muffly), but it's also the narrative to the movie. The music from the first part of the movie has to compete with a lot of harsh sounds (screaming, water splashing) when there is music : Chrissie's Death, Pier Incident, beach scene/canal. The second half gives more to the music. In fact John's spotting is remarkable during the sea scenes, he uses a constant fast tempo (the navy adventuresque feeling) and it just helps the editing to feel faster than it is. I've said it often, LTP should be almost silent. Operas and Ballets try always to lessen every diagetic sounds during a production, we have subtitles for that. This is why LTP like E.T. (or a lot of his earlier movies) works beautifully, Spielberg will let the music become the narrative during a lot of scenes.
  12. It was great, happy they lowered the SFX level during the second part of the movie to let the music breathe. Strings were hard to listen to during the first part (in the movie, water sounds during the beach scenes are harsh and cut everything out)
  13. The UE showed that the editing of the score did not work as a stand-alone (especially once you listened to the unedited leaked parts), but it did its job in the movie. Under all the SFX and sound editing, everybody remembers John's score during Reel 6 and it does help with the flow for almost (almost) every second of it. I can understand that from a producer's POV ($$$$), there was no need to rescore it.
  14. I can't wait for next week... JAWS LTP in Montreal with the OSM! A top-tier orchestra, their last JW LTP was E.T. a couple of years ago.
  15. With the quadruple-volume biography for Horner and the two-volumes for Goldsmith... can you give us a clue on how many pages the book will have? Manuceau's book is a little under 300 pages.
