  3. So this is going down tomorrow. We should get some reports of the event before it's broadcasted next week. Will Williams cry during his acceptance speech? Will Christian Bale, Amber Scott, Macauley Culkin, and Haley Joel Osment lead the audience in a singalong medley of Exsultate Justi, When You're Alone, Somewhere in My Memory, and For Always? Will Robert Altman and Alfred Hitchcock rise from the grave to deliver their tributes? So many lingering questions!

  5. But isn't it just as gratifying having all your favourite movies lined up on your shelf in cool looking packages? Something you can love and call "my collection"?

  6. I get what you mean, but I actually am glad they are being so restrained as I really want to experience the music for this alongside seeing the film for the first time, and I'd lack the willpower to wait if they were using Williams heavily in their promotional material. I feel like that sentence was 10x wordier than it needed to be, but you get my drift. EDIT: #ImWithMrBig

  7. By the way (I love to say that)... Do you know that The BFG will be the 140th solo album of John Williams?

  9. I don't think they've announced a host. They might not really have one, unless Spielberg is emceeing all night which would be priceless. I do wonder how exactly they're going to cover the career. I pretty much expect way too much time to be devoted to Star Wars (just watch: one montage for the original, one for ESB/ROTJ, one for the prequels, one for Force Awakens.....). Probably super-sized montages for Indiana Jones and Harry Potter as well. Superman, of course. Probably something for the Spielberg collaboration as a whole (would be awesome to see new footage from Spielberg's recording sessions videos....), plus individual presentations for Jaws, ET, Schindler's List, maybe Jurassic Park, maybe CE3K. Will be fun to see who they get to present all those and which pieces they choose, if there are any besides the obvious. Then what, Home Alone? Born on the Fourth of July, JFK? Will they get Itzhak and Yo-Yo to play Memoirs live? Will they go into the non-movie stuff like the Olympics or NBC News? And I wonder how far back they'll go....I'm predicting that all the pre-Jaws stuff will just be kind of condensed into one montage, but I wonder who would present that. (Mark Rydell?) Will be interesting if any of those movies get their own presentation, and if they'll mention the TV stuff as well. Also I wonder how much live performance there'll be. I'm expecting film recordings for the most part, though it would be pretty special if they had LA session players performing everything all night, maybe with Dudamel or Ross or somebody conducting

  10. Add May 19-20 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee in Calgary to the list of dates. http://calgaryphil.com/event/raiders-of-the-lost-ark-original-film-with-orchestra/2017-05-19/ After the Hollywood Bowl in Sept I'm most excited for this. Already making ticket purchase plans.

  12. I've literally liked one track from Noel (and his High Flying Birds) since Oasis split. He seems to have sort of settled into generic vanilla rock. Oasis were brilliant.

  14. Nice review Karol. Rogue & Rabbit features the flashes of Adams-esque writing you occasionally get from Elfman's smaller film scores, but blown up at full-scale. It's delightful.

Pretty sure that any director/studio who wants Williams badly enough would accommodate whatever time he requires to write. Just look at TFA; some poor work experience intern is still sorting through hundreds of overtime timesheets JW submitted. And they still invited him back!

  22. I feel the same way about the emotional bits in the other Uncharted games (having only played the first 3). That kind of sentimentality worked wonders in The Last of Us but it feels completely out of place in an Indiana Jones-esque adventure.

  25. Captain From Castile It's not much of a swashbuckler, but it's held together by Tyrone Power, the terrific Technicolor photography and Alfred Newman's lavish score. Newman's score plumbs the usual Golden Age archetypes but with some Latin flair thrown in too. That iconic scene with Power and Jean Peters dancing around the campfire crackles with sexual chemistry. It's all in the body language, choreography, and Newman's beautiful guitar solo. It's fascinating watching the movie just with the isolated score track. It really emphasizes the composer's contributions to the film, and I wish a feature more movies had.

  28. Well, I listened to this score yesterday on Spotify and loved it! This is immediately superior to the first score in my opinion. I purchased the physical CD from Amazon as soon as the main album program ended. Anybody know the chronological order of the CD with tracks 21-27 integrated into the main program?
