  8. It's not unheard of. My other idol is David Attenborough, who's still going strong at nearly 91. He's even touring Australia right now doing speaking tours, so he's not even slowing down! I'd be lying if I didn't admit I'm anxious about JW, but at this stage I'm just grateful for every new score we're lucky to hear. That he's even writing any scores in his mid-80s is truly remarkable and a gift.

  9. Hello everybody, I am a Brazilian film composer and admirer of Jonh's music. I am proud to be here among you and to release my new blog in such a forum. During the past few years I have been studing the compositions of the man which I consider the best film composer of all times. As a result I have gained some knowledge and skills which I beleive should be explored as a resource for others, and, thinking about this, I decided to write a book which I call The John Williams Compositional Techniques. This book is a dream that is becoming true as the project progress towards the many ideas I have been given by the people interested in learning more about Jonh's ability to compose. Today, besides the book, I am preparing a series of lectures as well and for a good start, I decided to put available part of the book in my new blog. In the next few weeks I will be posting once a week something interesting about the book. Mostly they will be exercices and analisys about short fragments of the best scores the composer has written. The first two exercises can be seen here: Creation of Texture 1 Creation of Texture 2 For more details about how they were created and stay updated please visit: http://www.leandrogardini.com/blog Please let me know your requests and opinion about this project. Thank you for you support!

  12. For me it's a few seconds in Clash of Lightsabers that ever since I first heard it clicks in the mind. Don't know what or why but: 2.36 to about 2.44 not long before the love theme. (Accompanies Artoo saving the day: "Wonderful! I never doubted it for a second!") but as I say on some level it's always done something for us, then again the whole track does. From just after the duel, with our heroes fleeing knowing Han's lost (or possibly), stormtroopers chasing, the Yoda theme and finally getting off Cloud City by the skin of the proverbials.

  17. I don't know if this has been already posted elsewhere, but I link it here for the sake of tidiness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v96PpTf6DzY (embed is disabled, sorry) "With Malice Toward None" for Trumpet and Piano (arranged by JW), performed by Christopher Martin (the soloist who plays in the film score as well). Lovely.

  21. That's not a LLL thing, that's an everyone thing. International shipping rates increased drastically in recent times. Here are some threads discussing it http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=94225&forumID=1&archive=0 http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=113495&forumID=1&archive=0 Oviously, huge corporations like Amazon or whatever can cut deals to have lower rates, but all the specialty labels have had to increase their shipping rates. Despite the price, its very worthwhile to buy directly from the labels whenever you can, as that directly gives them income to fund future releases.

  24. You literally just put one of Williams' weakest scores (THE BOOK THIEF) next to one of his strongest (ANGELA'S ASHES). But yeah -- I'm also curious about how he would approach this. If there's any religiousity in it, that would be tremendous -- it is, after all, my favourite "sound" of his.

You need to learn to make better meals so you look forward to leftovers more. Maybe you can't cook. But John Williams can.

  33. I'm betting on this. Or at least it's what I've been imagining. I doubt Spielberg would settle for a "regular" drama score. He may request a religious flavor.

  38. It would probably be the most momentous achievement in film score history to have one composer write 9 scores for one film series over a span of 42 years. Take that, John Barry! In fact, I'll bet money on it now: the Oscars will give him his 6th Oscar for Episode IX, if he finishes 3 trilogies of trilogies. It'll basically be his "lifetime achievement" award in disguise, and warmly bookend the Oscar he scored for the first film.

  39. Every time this gets bumped I still can't believe we're getting another one of these scores so soon, shit. New director, new approach, same old Johnny. Kinda weird to think that we're now closer in time to Last Jedi's release date than to Force Awakens'....

  43. It really is a perfect score. Maybe I'm just being grumpy but it sometimes seems the young up-and-coming Williams fans don't give it the respect and adulation it deserves. Sure, Harry Potter and Jurassic Park are amazing, but this is where it all started!

  44. Lately it's The Mecha World Before that The Lost World I get addicted to pieces sometimes that I just want to play all the time that reinforce for me how Williams is better than all the rest
