  3. No offense to the labels, but it hardly matters as long as MM is involved.

  4. I mean, hypothetically if he passed on Episode IX specifically in order to do something completely new, I might consider it a fair trade depending on what the movie even was, the director, and how the score ultimately turned out, weighed against the potential of Episode IX. But the only real precedent we have for that in his career is when he ditched Harry Potter for Memoirs and that was a bit of a unique case. Realistically, we're either getting 2 more hours of Star Wars music or nothing.

  8. I find all the discussion based off of MV's post here interesting. I didn't find anything he said nebulous or confusing at all, and I'm surprised how many assumptions people drew from it. Here's the post again just in case Facebook ever eats it, and its not on this page anyway https://www.facebook.com/lalalandrecords/posts/10155939087978755 He's simply saying he spent the weekend listening to some Black Friday titles that have already been mastered. "7 CDs worth of product" could be a 4CD set and a 3CD set, a 6CD set and a single disc release, three 2CD sets and a single disc, etc etc - lots of possibilities. These aren't clues, he's not providing any information to let people guess what they are, just telling people to set money aside because its going to be more expensive than usual, and full of more titles that will sell out faster than usual.

  9. Yes! So long as you enjoy listening to ROTJ as if it were recorded inside a toilet bowl.

  10. My fav little moment is when Rey is polishing the scrap metal she found and she briefly looks up and sees a very old lady do the same. It's fleeting, and it works.

  11. Hmm, sounds like it's a Benjamin Wallfisch score produced by Zimmer who was busy touring. He really does only go a 100% for Nolan. Can't even blame him.

I used to dislike Gosling too, before ever seeing him in anything. He has a resting smug face like the best of 'em do with that look. But I've since come around to the guy after seeing him show up in a couple of different things I've watched. He's fine now, I got over it.

  15. Definitely! BTW, if you get it, don't buy the OST; There was a mastering error with that product that was never fixed. The right channel is out of phase, causing a distortion of sound throughout the entire program. The Deluxe Edition sounds amazing https://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/M09656/predator-2/

I haven't been following this thread because I haven't even seen the original, but I looked and didn't see this in the last few pages. Here's Ford accidentally connecting with Gosling. Two great faces.

  18. Yes, I think the sequel score is better than the first (although with the films, it's the other way around).

  20. So today was a very productive day for me again! I bought 10 Jerry Goldsmith CDs! I realized that these days nothing makes me happier than buying John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith CDs. So I won't even try to get James Horner, Danny Elfman, or Alan Silvestri scores in the foreseeable future anymore... I will focus solely on JW and JG! These are the ones I got today, not because they were the ones I wanted especially, but they just happened to be available at very affordable prices (between 5-25 Euros). Except for The Explorers, they are all OST albums. The 'Burbs The Explorers Poltergeist II Mulan Bandolero Lonely are the Brave The Stripper The Blue Max Warlock Mr. Baseball So I now have exactly 50 Jerry Goldsmith CDs... But I'm not nearly done yet! PS. I updated the original post too!

  22. Based on Rian's existing work, I'm expecting far more opportunities for the music to shine, as opposed to JJ's style (shorter scenes, tighter editing, less space for long-lined melodies and cues). Just watch Ozymandias if you have any doubts about Rian's style. There are extended portions of that episode where music and visuals are the only storytelling elements in effect, and multiple moments where sound effects carry the drama to great effect (Walt collapsing to the ground after that death is etched in my memory).

  23. You just hate Westworld because I like it! As soon as I said I was watching it and enjoying it, you felt you needed to re-evaluate it as perhaps more inferior than you originally thought.

  24. I'm expecting a massive, showstopping rendition of Jedi Steps as Rey leaves Ach-to, maybe a mingling of her theme, the force theme and jedi steps!

  26. No shipping notice, but the order status has been changed to shipped. The attached tracking number doesn't show anything on the USPS site yet. I assume that means LLL has just created the shipping label and the package has yet to depart.

  33. Not always. When I lived in Morocco, we got soap operas from everywhere. Ones from the Philippines seemed especially popular, for some reason. Especially from the standout composer of daytime soaps. That feline bastard's killing our employment chances.

  34. In terms of quantity of scores, yes. He didn't have the career he should have had after scoring a big Trek film. But I see his best scores as: potential fulfilled! Yavar

  37. It's been years and years since I've listened to this one, thanks for sharing a link! Definitely agree with you about the score. I really liked his other three from 2008, though; a lot of people seem to diss Hellboy II, which I certainly did, when I first listened to it, but it became a favorite of mine! I used to buy every Elfman score that came out until about 2010 or so, but my interest in him started to wane, and my tastes began to diverge from his voice. Over the last year or so, though, I've had that feeling of "Huh, I wonder how the guy is doing." While his palette seems to be a little more monochromatic than in his earlier days, after checking some of his scores over the last several years, I'm reminded why I enjoyed him when I was younger; while I don't go crazy over his stuff, I do have a lot of respect for him as film composer in the tradition of Jerry Goldsmith, where he experiments and tries to do something unique for the film he's working on. That said, my first reaction to Tulip Fever was "Holy crap! I miss this side of Elfman!"

  38. Yeah, one of my favorite moments was hearing that awesome rendition of Rey’s theme blasting out over the IMAX sound system for the first time. That powerful counterpoint in the horns, wow. And of course they had to f*** it up.

  39. That's great. For me, when I think about a character building moment for Rey, its that quiet moment of her wearing the helmet, and looking wistfully at the sky. Also great. But not everything in the movie is like that.

  40. Yep. It works. A lot of those little moments work in that film, actually.
