  1. HOLY SHIT!!! Has Johnny's brand new Main Titles recording for The Last Jedi leaked on Twitter!? https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/917878706751782913/pu/vid/1280x720/h3M7Q1B9f_TUvdIX.mp4 You can definitely hear Rian Johnson's influence.

  2. I think you're reading way too much into it. Every Star Wars film has had various characters/creatures created to serve as comedic relief, many of them being quite effective. I'm sure the Porgs will be fine, and their presence hardly reflects on how "dark" the rest of the film will be.

  9. Yeah I'm a little bit like that too. My favorite part is probably the anticipation, but very, very close behind is the week or so after release.

  11. Watched E.T. for the first time. It's ok but it goes shamelessly for that 1980's vibe that's so fashionable right now. And it rips off Stranger Things. Two things I will take away from it..."penis breath" and "ur-anus"...Rude! Oh and where is that demonic clown from the sewers? Karol

  12. Great series. We've returned to the days of the theater matinee serials! One day several decades from now a director will look back at this time and make an homage film, that spawns a new cultural zeitgeist. It's like Ring Theory, but in our world.

  16. I hope you realize I was making suggestions as a fellow member giving my own opinion, not as a moderator telling you what to do. And I personally still don't think that them not releasing a JW title can be considered a disappointment since we have no reason to expect one (other than maybe CE3K) and there are many great scores written by many other great composers that can come out. I really hope you don't take film music releases that seriously...

  18. The Enterprise or a Borg Cube would make pretty short work of a Star Destroyer. Even a wimpy ship like Voyager under an incompetent like Janeway could take out a Super Star Destroyer. And The Defiant could even take down the Death Star.

  19. Have you considered writing to Williams and just asking him? You'll find him to be quite friendly and responsive to serious musical queries such as yours.

  23. I want John Williams: The Complete Recordings -- a 7,482 disc set featuring the unedited recording sessions of every film score ever composed by Williams. ...except the Indy, Star Wars or Potter scores (rights issues).

  24. The same place as the recording sessions for TFA and the other six scores: on an encrypted hard drive at Disney HQ, sitting behind thirteen firewalls. Different story once it hits the manufacturing plant though, although TFA's OST was kept incredibly secure considering the anticipation. Did it even leak a day in advance?

  26. Financially, of course. And that's how most Hollywood franchise films are made: they are a string of separate, standalone films. But artistically, you miss out on using a multi-film narrative as a dramatic tool in and of itself: you can "plant" things in the first film ("his father succumbed to the same sickness") for it to pay off in a later installment. Done right, the sense of gratification (derived dramatically from planting and payoff) will be much bigger than one used within the confines of a single film. When the films aren't preplanned, you can retroactively pay off something from a previous film. But it never feels quite as organic, either because the "planting" wasn't designed as planting ("A young Jedi named Darth Vader") or because it was planted without the eventual payoff in mind ("no, there is another.")

It doesn't matter what he is or what your opinion of him is, you can't come to the board and insult other members. If you're having a bad day or something, take your aggression out in another way. If you truly don't like Drax, put him on ignore. I don't care what you do as long as you don't break the rules. Thanks!

  32. I've listened to the complete score a few times now, it remains my favorite score of all time, wonderfully (dare I use the "d" word?) presented here in perfect quality. Random little detail I was struck by on this last listen. I love how the harp transitions from the Keys theme to the Stargazers theme in "At Home." Starting at 2:34 until it fully transitions to Stargazers around 2:50

  33. Who knows if he was up to it? He certainly did, the director, David Yates did. It's easy to be disappointed when the scores seem lackluster, but I'll tell you that the films were lackluster, gloomy, saturated, dark and angst ridden, I don't know what score could help it better than what we were given.

  43. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed reading that. The question about Rogue One and the timecrunch was kind of interesting It actually ties into this bit from a later question This really explains why Rogue One isn't that effective for me: Usually, he knows the story and characters of a score he's going to write years in advance, so when he sits down to write it, he has already done years of subconscious writing, marinating on what he knows before he sees a first cut. With Rogue One, it was a true 4 week rush job, where he didn't know thing one about the film until he got the gig. And it shows.
