  1. John

    FILM: The Last Jedi (2017)

True, but the Falcon wasn't entirely submerged in water for nearly 20 years. That, and by the events of TLJ, the original X-wing fighter was an extremely outdated model. I disagree; I honestly can't imagine a cooler and more inspiring character arc for Luke in TLJ. I thought his exit was considerably more badass than if he had just shown up, lightsaber blazing. He messed with their heads, showed up Ren, and sacrificed himself for a non-violent solution, effectively saving the Resistance. What's more Jedi than that?

  2. Honestly I think the choice of Silvestri for this movie was quite smart. He nailed the score, made the enough references to previous material and compose some very good themes in the spirit of the 80's cinema.

  3. Very true. When you think about it, Jar Jar stepping in poop isn’t out of place anymore, it is actually part of a long tradition dating back to the very first film:

  5. @JTWfan77, you shouldn't delete/modify your posts just because a particular user snapped for no reason. I mean, really! If harmless discussions about CD cover arts are enough to cause a person to break like this, I guess this person should be looking for help immediatly.

  8. Nope. Mark Hamill was giving a role he was not happy or comfortable with at first. He took it and portrayed it as best as he could. I was quite impressed with his performance. Besides, the director directed him, and he killed it. So I would say that it was quite fine in terms of acting. To say worst acting by Hamill ever, maybe, but the emotional vibes that Luke has in many scenes throughout the film are too strong not to be recognized. You may not be aware that Hamill was very emotional on set as well as in the movie. He gave this one his all and it was splendid. Not for a Sith.

  10. I love this score. It's thematically rich. The ways he adapts and reprises the main theme is wonderful, and the delicate woodwind parts of the B and C phrase of the main theme throughout are perfect. Full of blood-pumping fanfares and ostinatos. One of Silvestri's best.

  11. So you know how humans poop when they die? How does this apply to force ghosts? When Obi-Wan died, did he take the turd with him into the afterlife or leave it behind in his robes (which Vader steps on)?

  12. Part of the appeal and charm of Trek is the romanticism of space and this profound sense of adventure and going into the unknown. Courage, Goldsmith, Horner et al. brought lyricism to the music that gave The Enterprise and her crew a soul, something Discovery lacks. For that I think Giacchino's Yorktown Theme from Beyond could've been a compelling main theme for a tv series, it's majestic, stoic, lyrical, and conveys that sense of wonder and idealism of what humans can accomplish.

  13. So, I totally randomly just found a Hungarian site which sells everything CD I dream of, and currently has this for the equivalent of about 59 € including shipping to a Post Point, so I don't even have to be at home. It's on its way now, will be here in a week

  15. Thank you for that, but the arrangements are rather unbearable to me. Put it this way: I am utterly illiterate when it comes to reading music, and even I could have done a better job pointing out which notes the orchestra should play at the beginning of Devil's Dance. It sounds like a group of professionals playing something written for five-year-olds... I'm really confused as to why they're doing this and suddenly feel so much better about having ordered that new LSO CD.

  19. The DVDs for the original releases were seated on rubber nubs, and apparently the fit was tight and they were very difficult to take off and put back on. I only used the CDs, personally, so .

  20. I'm not much of a Williams fan. I'm familiar with his music as is everyone, but a "fan" of it? Not really, no. I don't care one bit for Giacchino at all, and Zimmer...Batman Begins, Crimson Tide, Simpsons Movie...that's about it. Any other answers are wrong...except no one has to recognize that complete lack of authority on a subjective topic.

  23. Oh so that's what a character arc is. All these years I've been reading about film, and I thought it had something to do with rare religious antiquities. Anyway, a real character arc would have been Luke joining the fight, not blowing all his Force mojo in one go and then dying. There should have been a dramatic scene of him levitating his X-Wing out of the water to the strains of the glorious music of John Williams. Or if Johnson wanted to keep with his "humour" have something like this... Yoda: At an end, your exile is. Luke: But Master Yoda, I don't have the strength. And I can't get involved. I've got fish to catch. It's not that I like the First Order, I hate it, but there's nothing I can do about it right now. It's all such a long way from here. The Jedi must end. Yoda: Strength you have, foolish your talk is. To Yoda you listen. Luke: But even if I wanted to go, the girl's gone, and my space jet is under water. (just then, behind Luke, out of focus we see his wet X-Wing slowly levitate to the ground from the top of screen. Luke turns around and gazes at his dripping snub fighter, mouth agape). Yoda: Some lessons, you still haven't learned, young Skywalker (he he he he). (Cue music; wipe to Canto Bight)

  26. It's sad CBS turned down veteran composers like Cliff Eidelman. They would have done a much better job in my opinion. The score for this series is largely unforgettable.

  35. it's better than a lot of scores I've heard recently, but it's the one movie that called for big bold 80's style themes and Williams didn't do it. I'll be permanently dissapointed

  39. The only good thing we know is that the music exists well preserved. I'm in particular happy for Thor on the STORY OF A WOMAN. The RARE BREED is another holy grail of mine and perhaps when Williams is in a better mood we just might have him surrender to these.

  40. I hope that Intrada, having confirmed the existence of The Rare Breed and Story of a Woman music elements, will at least see to it that they get digitised for preservation, so that the music will at least still exist in the future, if a release becomes possible for whatever reason.

    EDIT: Removed

Look at the size of that thing! Cover me, Porkins! You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought. Luke, at that speed, will you be able to pull out in time? Get clear Wedge, there's no more good you can do back there! It's possible he came in through the south entrance.

  44. Ice Age: Collision Course It's a standard CG comedy score. Debney gives it some flair and packages it in a digestible format, so it's disposable fun. He even uses Newman and Powell's thematic material (Newman's family theme and Powell's theme from Dawn of the Dinosaurs) throughout, unnecessary but a nice touch nonetheless.
