I'm waiting on an EMU Proteus 2000, and I'm really excited! I'm seeing a lot of people say it's dated and geared towards hip-hop, but I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of stuff I can wrangle out of it in a very different context.1 point -

Well, S2 was certainly better than S1. At least it had an engaging (if confusing) plot and more characters among the crew, even if they often were only fleshed out quickly before the plot needed them to be (i.e. not long enough in the case of , which as a result felt rather gimmicky). The visuals and effects are still all over the place, with the camera flying around upside down and constantly tilting every way, just because it can. Tilly is still likeable and amusing (in small doses) and still way too over the top and thus often just annoying. The writing is still all over the place, to the extent that by the time the finale came along I could barely remember half of it and couldn't tell if many things were just poorly handled plot strains or gaping plot holes (although I suspect it's the latter in many cases). I was especially confused by Po at the beginning of the first part of the finale, but apparently that refers to Short Treks which I was completely unaware of until just now. The pacing and (deliberately?) clunky plotting confuses because characters constantly show up out of nowhere without explanation, sometimes wth no apparent way of getting there at the time (e.g. Sarek and Amanda near the end of the season - I don't think they were holograms). The ultimate solution to the TOS timeline problem caused by the Discovery's existence seems superficially epic, but also highly implausible. The Discovery is still and ugly ship, although the Enterprise is gorgeous. The show's main draw is perhaps Anson Mount, who makes a phenomenal Pike. I have no idea how a third season is supposed to continue from here. Going along with the Discovery seems a bit like a cop out, and also would remove one of the more engaging aspects of S2 (i.e. its close relation to elements directly connected with established canon), although I suppose it has to happen. Personally, I'd be much more interested in another Enterprise/Pike season. Oh, and S2 actually had some good music.1 point -

I'm 100% positive they will change the story in Ep9 to make her that yes. And I will laugh. So her personality traits are she's too nice? She believes her parents care about her because she's so nice and forgiving. She believes Kylo can be good because she's so nice and forgiving, which is utterly pathetic because about a day before that, she witnessed him murder his own father, brutally wound her friend Finn, and she even fought him in a lightsaber duel... Even what people describe as her faults are actually positives. She's too nice...1 point -

Two distinctions: one, it was in his second film: Rey pulled off a similar thing in her first film. Two, unlike The Last Jedi which starts in medias res right after The Force Awakens, in The Empire Strikes Back its been a few years and I believe the text crawl states quite clearly that Luke served with the Rebels throughout. Without trying to write the films for the filmmakers, you naturally expect him to pick up a few things between entries. Besides, even if that were true, two wrongs don't make a right.1 point -

Can someone please tell me Rey's motivations? It's not her parents because she admits to knowing all along that they were losers who abandoned her. So...is there any reason for her to be doing anything she does? Could someone perhaps describe her personality? Does she have one? Can someone describe her character?1 point -

The immersion would be much greater if nobody was walking around in modern Muggle clothes in HPLand. Put robes over everyone who enters and take it back when they exit or something! Maybe they could even purchase it to keep. People who bring their own get 10% off the ticket. Same with SWLand, give everyone an immersive poncho!1 point -

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)

Listened to Dragonslayer by Alex North for the first time in a while. Of course a score this robust and layered was bound to cut up in a 1980's movie ,of all places, but thankfully we have the whole musical story preserved on album. Alex North often used dissonance as a natural part of his vocabulary rather than a simplistic way of saying "Something evil is afoot!" (see Leonard Bernstein's Symphony in C, I think it was), and the dissonance here, while in its more extreme weavings spells out danger and intensity in the way only an old-school dude like him could, often speaks to a certain level of journey and adventure. There are a lot of times where the music slowly lurches forward, sitting on a particular mood for an astonishingly long period of time for a film score. This score to me is a great musical analogy to a hiking trip, filled with moments of uneventful walking, occasional moments of fear and adrenaline (ever see a mountain cougar stare at you from 100m away?), and the occasional blissful explosion that comes from stumbling upon a beautiful sight. Just when a track starts to lose interest, he'll throw in some bizarre, funky figure with very different orchestration, the result being a score that deftly juggles your ear between fatigue, complacency, and satisfaction when North provides your craving ear a different flavor, very astonishingly balanced. Definitely not album for track highlights, and I highly recommend listening to this one start to finish as a compelling, jagged mood album.1 point -

The scene they have in The Last Jedi portrays them as brother and sister way better than any of the other movies. It's like John Williams wrote the theme for it three decades beforehand!1 point -

Its easy to be disenchanted with the Star Wars franchise because Star Wars is beyond great. ESB is also great. Half of Jedi is good, there are interesting parts in the mostly bad Phantom Menace, aotc is a recipe for garbage and rots is film diarrhea. TFA is a nostalgic love song and TLJ is half terrific and half aotc/rots bad. Rian (its Ryan you tard) Johnson surprises no one in his mediocrity as a filmmaker. I will give him props for a great ending bleak and somber. People commit suicide for less.1 point
