  1. Sadly no. These companies are so stupid. They complain endlessly about piracy affecting their bottom line, but they make access to their product so needlessly restrictive and difficult.

  3. As I said, it’s Aliens to Alien. Two very different films that do everything right in their own context. Hopkins is fantastic.

  8. It's funny, the whole "Fans know best" thing really came to prominence as a response to Lucas continually revising the original trilogy in 1997, 2004, and 2011. And now Disney is in charge, and doesn't change anything, so the fans who have convinced themselves they know best have finally circled around.... to making their own ugly special editions of things. The circle is now complete....

  12. You’re likely to be disappointed then because you’re not paying very close attention. I very much doubt Roger would have omitted Bernstein from even his expanded list of upcoming composers...and “A Shot in the Dark” would be wonderful but it never had an original album that Intrada would have been pursuing a release of on its own, before discovering the complete score. You’re also wrong about The Chairman. There is significant unreleased music as Jeff Bond continually brings up. Yavar

  13. Or perhaps proper sounding masters for The Magnificent Seven!

  14. That was my first thought, as it seems to fit the description exactly. That would be wonderful news!

  15. Definitely! I just included "The Supremacy" instead of "Battle of Crait" b/c I was going for one example per film. The TLJ motif is interesting in that it is so Ludlow-like in that appearance (and the analagous rendition during the opening Escape Battle). But intervallically, it's also related to the fairly anonymous sounding "Tension" motif first intro'd in TFA. And over the course of TLJ, it develops into the full-fledged "Holdo's Sacrifice" theme. Williams gets an amazing amount of mileage out of this little C-Eb-D-F-C melodic pattern.

  18. There’s some speculation over at FSM that they may have found Bernstein’s Hallelujah Trail. I could think of a few others, Laurence Of Arabia, Mysterious Island, In Harm’s Way (again), It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World or Zulu. granted several of those composers weren’t on Roger’s list of artists the had upcoming titles coming from he posted earlier this year but things change. A Shot In The Dark?

Here you go I've never heard this version before and it is certainly bold. I like it! edit: Wow it gets really stately, too. And quiet! The dynamics in this recording are really impressive. Not just in terms of recording, but in the way the orchestra is performing the material. few mistakes here and there though. And a pretty iffy transition to the end title suite

  23. The collection grows... Also, I saw a 9 CD Wagner opera box, but it was something like $100 Canadian. A good purchase, for another time. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is plenty for now! And it was brand new.

  24. Is it the same origin, that very aggressive and cool brass passage from TLJ, in Battle of Crait? After Rey's theme, 03:18

  25. I think it was nothing more than a fun little quote because of the similarity in scenario and action at that moment. TLJ is the most self-aware/referential Star Wars score yet, and I think this short musical moment is one example of that.

  26. I agree. I never thought there was a 3rd motif either, the one is just ancillary part of the insecure Kylo Ren motif. I hope J.J. and Johnny will now finally unveil a full march variation on Kylo's main fanfare theme which Williams already teased us with at the end of the Last Jedi when Kylo storms the Resistance base. He could easily expand upon that and it would make sense now that Kylo has achieved his goal to become the supreme leader of the First Order. Time for the First Order March!

  28. Two episodes in, the music is pretty great in this, and pretty up front. Its fun hearing Arnold reuse a Bond motif.

  29. To be fair, there are bits and pieces of that old Arnold sound here. Particularly the track "Atlantis" brought a smile to my face.

  30. It's a terrible film, so I'm not sure I want to own it. But I'd be very interested to own the score featurette, especially if it contains JW interviews.

There's something inherently magical about being in the same space with the musicians and hearing them speak through their instruments. I've never heard any configuration of recording and playback equipment that can replicate that feeling. So live concerts will always have that (very significant) appeal for me. That being said, I do tend to get a little attached to whatever performance I hear first and/or most often, so sometimes the differing artistic interpretation in a live concert setting can throw me off a little. (Same goes for rerecordings, for that matter.) Another factor to consider is that in a live setting, any attempts to "mix" the music differently or add electronic elements will necessitate amplification, which starts to move the feeling closer to a recording anyway. And then of course, a film recording is going to consist of one or more takes that were selected for their superior performance; with live music, you get what you get, and then the moment passes. Bottom line, I love hearing music that's been skillfully recorded and I love hearing music that's being skillfully played live. But they do appeal to me for slightly different reasons.

  34. And we'll have all the unreleased Holdo material clean...! And Finn & Rose escaping the Supremacy! This is incredible!!! I'm actually shocked they got Williams' approval for this (presumably). Looks like I might as well cancel my expansion seeing as the whole thing needs to be overhauled now!

  36. I always liked this Hildebrandts poster except for not using the actors' likenesses. So I combined it with the Luke and Leia from a Japanese poster done by Seito (which was used for the Japanese issue of "Story of Star Wars" album), and shuffled the composition a bit. For this set, I took my favorite legacy posters and tweaked them a bit, moving things around and expanding the sides to fit the square aspect of a cover without cropping top and bottom. For SW, I removed the Death Star and Vader, and replaced them with images more accurate to the films. I also added some more ships and removed the "afterburners" on the X-wings and TIEs. For ESB, I included Yoda from the Laserdisc cover that featured a variant of Roger Kastel's iconic poster. For ROJ, I added some key characters that were wierdly excluded, and changed the colour of Luke's L/S to be film accurate, as well as adding more ships and vehicles.

  38. In this excerpt from a 1997 Pops concert Williams performed a specially-arranged medley of Star Wars music where he used actual bits of cues ("Imperial Attack", "Snow Battle", "This is not a Cave") from the original scores. I think it's the only time he did that. Love that he conducts with a stopwatch at hand
