I'm talking about people who have one copy sealed and a second for listening. Or for selling on the secondary market. So don't get offended so easily please.

Sandor got a reaction from BB-8 in What's the status of your Dial of Destiny CD order?
Why judge so easily? Do you know the personal circumstances involved? I ordered a second copy for my brother, who helped me fight cancer this year.

It's sadly a vinyl exclusive.
But don't worry you will get a CD presentation along with the Star Wars Complete Collection in a couple of centuries

There was a window of just a few hours when orders could be placed again on August 21 before the infamous 'Product currently not available' message plagued the site once more.
The orders placed on August 21 were shipped relatively quickly, ironically on August 24. My theory is that Disney located remaining copies of the original batch, so nothing had to be re-produced.
On August 24 there was a second window when the CD could be purchased, this time lasting longer than just a few hours.
However, these orders -again my theory- involved a still to be done new pressing of the CD, likely in October.
That's why those who ordered on August 24 had to wait much longer than those who ordered just 3 days prior.

Anyway. Looking at the time it took to create that batch of CDs for these orders from the 24th I guess the job was assigned to an intern who was given just an old permanently down breaking Windows 98 PC and an internal rusty CD burner drive for it.

Sandor reacted to lairdo in Arthur C. Clarke listened to John Williams while writing 2010: Odyssey Two
I just finished listening to the audiobook of 2010: Odyssey Two by Arthur C. Clarke. I had read this book when it came out in 1982, and I still have the hardback edition in a box somewhere (along with 2061 and 3001 as well as my paperback copy of 2001). I've watched 2001 a few times in recent years, including a great 70 mm screening, and I decided to go back to the book series.
In the acknowledgments at the end of the book, Clarke thanks Maurice Jarre, Vangelis and the "incomparable John Williams for providing inspiration whenever it was needed."
Richard Strauss and Johann Strauss don't even get a mention. I wonder if JW was ever asked to score 2010, a job that ultimately went to David Shire (with help from Craig Huxley)? Probably not, but maybe nobody asked Clarke.

Sandor reacted to SilverTrumpet in The Long Goodbye (2022 arrangement, Sophie-Anne Mutter violin): one of Williams' strongest works?
Watching this, it's just...cosmic for lack of a better word.
Imagine you're 40 or so, you're not famous yet, you still haven't started working with Steven Spielberg at all, and you still have it in yourself to churn out a piece of music like this. Then, fast forward half a freaking century later and you're still practicing your craft like this.
Every time I watch a fairly recent appearance by Williams I feel like I'm witnessing history in a way few other things that exist in the modern world feel.

Sandor reacted to King Mark in The Long Goodbye (2022 arrangement, Sophie-Anne Mutter violin): one of Williams' strongest works?
It's pretty good but I don't love this theme as much as some others. But at least we have a good concert version of it

Sandor got a reaction from eitam in The Long Goodbye (2022 arrangement, Sophie-Anne Mutter violin): one of Williams' strongest works?
Recently, I've been very impressed by John Williams' arrangement of The Long Goodbye Theme as heard on the DG Violin Concerto No. 2 release (2022).
I think it may be one of Williams' very best arrangements and it puts the theme in a completely new perspective.
Just sharing in case anyone hasn't heard it.
