Clemmyboy has his review up.
"... continued flatness of recording ambience." Whaaaaa?

Well, we can scratch off May 2016 as a potential release date for Episode VII, Disney and Marvel Studios have elected to book May 6, 2016 for an Untitled Marvel Film (they're not saying what it is yet).

Guess it will be a 2015 film.
That would give them about a year of post-production, but I guess it's possible with film schedules these days.

I did a quick splice of "Kirk Enterprises" and "Star Trek Main Theme" with "End Credits" from Star Trek '09 for a semblance of well rounded listening (the Courage fanfare into the full-fledged Courage theme) to tide me over until some sort of complete score comes around. Man, oh man, is the Wallin mix weak compared directly to the Iwataki mix. The difference is so extreme that this edit is almost unlistenable.

I wanna know when Jackson is going to answer the 20 questions he promised
Jay, you know he isn't going to.

It was a very nice read. Kendall makes a great point about the mild insanity of continuing to bank so much on characters created from the 40s to the early 70s and inventing so little new material (with exceptions like Harry Potter). These characters carry uncomfortable social legacies or are based on nonsensical science, and the attempts to update them are usually problematic.

Shut up, Boal. CG isn't automatically horrible every time it's used
When did I say that? I just said that the CGI in the trailer look bad (the CG elves, Smaug's head, Ninjump Tauriel...). Never said CG is always horrible.
you misunderstand the effects process if you think these shots aren't full of mattes and hand crafted elements, even though they aren't real location shots.
Again, when did I say that? Just because I prefer real locations over CG locations doesn't mean I automatically reject every CG location. I'm just saying the CG locations in this trailer don't look really good to me. Yes, I know, it's just a teaser trailer, they have 5 to 6 months to improve these shots, but let's face it, even with the same amount of time, the first film had its fair share of bad CG (Radgy's sled, anyone?). Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong and be impressed by the CG in the final film. But so far, nothing in that trailer impressed me. That is all.
Dude, the idea that CG is always bad is exactly what you conveyed. Chaac and I complemented the locales and you sarcastically responded "which CG locales are you referring to?" But whatever. Thanks for clearing it up. And no, I didn't think everything in the trailer was great.

Movie magic:
CGI and Photoshop witchcraft!!!

There are lots of pretty locales, though.
Locales look very impressive.

I don't like this thing about Mass Effect 3 where your "War Assets" are capped at 50% in single player. I hope you can still beat the game without playing multiplayer or buying DLC's
You can win, but maybe not with an ideal outcome.

Think of it as two different vocabularies. Tritone describes the size of the interval (just like the terms whole step and half step), while augmented fourth/diminished unison describes the quality.

Didn't see it.

I wish the cues were longer. A lot of them would actually make some nice three-four minute pieces.

The only sounds I remember are the horrible processed voices: battle droids, super battle droids in Episode III (kill me), General Grievous, the midwife droid, and the Confederacy goons in Episode II.

A quick look at Nonesuch Records' http://www.nonesuch.com/albums/there-will-be-blood-soundtrack'>web site shows that the three digital bonus tracks are still available. The Pärt and Brahms pieces are available on commercial recordings. As for the stuff I ripped from the DVD? It's... around...

So, early in the film, Scotty says to Kirk, "I thought we were explorers," and at the end of the film Kirk speaks about how we shouldn't seek vengeance and forget our true purpose. Was this sort of a wink-wink to people who bemoan how action oriented Star Trek has become? Somehow I don't think the next movie will be about exploration, though. I really don't know what to think about this self-referential fan-service of a film. Is fan-service bad? Maybe not... I certainly enjoyed all the nods. Eh, I'll try to see it again. Also, in 2D. Abrams' shaky cam cinematography and frenetic editing really doesn't lend itself to the 3D experience.

I agree with Blume, in the sense that this music gives up all the goods too soon. When every moment is a catharsis it's hard to feel or care about anything.
I mean, the orchestration is well done, though.

Yes.

None of the directors after Chris Columbus have shown any interest in such an approach. I remember that after the marginally extended versions of SS and CoS, the directors of 3-7 were given an option to release director's cuts, but declined it. They all seemed to favor the approach of creating successful, self-contained movies rather than excerpts of a larger fantasy universe. (Were they actually successful? Maybe, maybe not.)

I really like this. There's a sense of discomfort and psychosis. Not just straight forward evil.

Nahhhh. It's a carefully measured build to the finish. With so many of the recent episodes, he's basically said, "This games sucks" and cut to the Cinemassacre logo. This one had a real ending, but it needed all the bad game material to be pulled off.
