  1. He was an extra?! Wow. I completely underestimated his fanboyism.
  2. Words of a true fanboy Neil. It started out well, but got progressively worse for me, although the effects at the end looked cool. Not a movie I plan to see in the cinema, or possibly at all.
  3. People in the UK - I noticed Play.com has the mp3 album of the OST (minus the battle cue, but who wants the cut down version... ) going for £1.99. I'm dumping my expanded set and going with this.
  4. I've only really ever connected to a small number of cues from this score. Admittedly I only have the complete version, and as suggested, it's a bit overwhelming, and much of it has little meaning given that I've never seen a single frame of the film. I think that when it's good, it's absolutely outstanding, but it does seem to have dragging parts, and the quieter romantic moments venture into a musical sound that doesn't really click with me.
  5. I've never ordered from Intrada before either, but I'm hoping maybe a week or so for delivery to the UK. Not really fussed about any other unrelease music, especially if it's tracked. what bothered me was the additional music that we know exists and is good. But the sound quality and legitimacy of this release is enough.
  6. scallenger, you've made me see sense. And I always said that if anything came up from Intrada or Varese that I actually liked, I'd support them. Besides, the quicker they make their money back, the sooner they can work on more. Ordered.
  7. If there was no boot, I'd easily buy it, but it's the absence of that 10 minutes that's available by other means that makes me reluctant to invest in this. I'm listening now to Quark to the Rescue and it's a cue I'd really like to have, but it's not on the CD.
  8. I agree with the above list about the missing music. It's definitely disappointing that they didn't include the whole score, and for what I'd be paying for it (and given that it all fits on one CD), I would've expected the whole thing. Presents a dilemma because I really do want to support Intrada, but I would still feel I had to keep a few cues from the boot, which devalues the actual CD.
  9. Well it's a decent if slightly wacky score - I wouldn't say it's just a legal victory. I'm just deciding whether I like it enough, and if the music that's not included in this (about 8-9 mins) can be sacrificed. I'll listen at work if I get the chance and decide then - I obviously want to support Intrada, so I suspect the answer will be yes.
  10. I knew it! Mega-kudos to Intrada for this one - you'd have thought the legal crap would've prevented it. $27 with the current exchange rate is a little steep though, and it contains 9 minutes short of the entire score. I'll need to think on this one.
  11. Only imbeciles would do so! On the inside, I'm basically inclined to agree...for me, it seems so obvious that it's a great score! But I try to appreciate that others' interests may vary, as you do. "obvious" - there's another word that will start a war some day.
  12. He's just throwing us off the scent... ... because I really want it to be Shrunk or Ghostbusters II
  13. Truer words were never spoken. Alex What the hell are you people doing here? I'm with Drax here... true, the primary role of film music is to serve the film, but a lot of it works great as a standalone listening experience too. If you can't listen to a full album without getting bored, I'd question just how interested you are in this genre. Or maybe you just need to choose your soundtracks a little better
  14. I don't think many are suggesting there is, Trent. I know there are a number of members here who don't even listen to boots on principle but I consider it a necessary way to get round the broken release system.
  15. As much as I like the Hidalgo score, the action music doesn't work for me. Well, the second half when the strings start racing is kinda cool, but the beginning seems to me so basic in its melody and progression that it begins to sound uninspired autopilot for me. I don't really like "The Trap either" - its orchestration is so mickey-mousey, and the film itself absolutely bored me.
  16. I have everything in my head from the point where Willie sees the mountain getting very close, right through to the slalom. I absolutely dig the orchestration - it's one of those cues that clicked instantly with me.
  17. Blah, you're a score snob. I can understand you saying that about SW Koray (I have the same lack of connection), but Indy? The last 3 scores at least have few sound quality issues, and the movies are far easier to like IMO. But I'm hardly one to criticise that sort of taste - scores also have to 'click' with me, and the reason is often very hard to place. For whatever reason it means that scores like Jaws, CE3K, Superman etc, go largely unappreciated by me, but scores with a similar 'dissonance' if you will, and with even worse sound quality, such as Morricone's westerns, click perfectly. My point from this, Joey (and others), is that I'm sure Jaws is a great score - it's a fundamental part of the film, and I have to respect it for that. But since its sound doesn't click with me, there are plenty of other scores I prefer listening to, even if some are technically inferior. It's got nothing to do with the quality of the score at all.
  18. Mega-wattage reference is rather obvious once you connect it to the film I think. I think it's an all synth score too, so that must surely reduce the cost of releasing it (i.e. no reuse fees). Anyway. roll on Monday! It's 8pm eastern time isn't it?
  19. I doubt he was too, but the other clues seem to fit. Hmm, except the 'small' comment which doesn't really mean anything in the context of Ghostbusters.
  20. Now here's a golden age score that I absolutely adore. One of the few pre-90s scores I own on CD in fact. The main theme is an absolute classic IMO (but I won't swear or call you 'simple' if you don't agree ) and the bulk of the score has an ancient but very beautiful sound that clicks with me for some reason. Morricone has a gift with these scores for coming up with incredibly memorable melodies, and Ecstasy is one hell of a piece. Yo Yo Ma did a cello recording of this which is exquisite.
  21. The only video game I ever play these days is GTA San Andreas which has no music outside the radio stations. I therefore put on a fun action cue for the fast and hugely destructive car chases I partake in. Sometimes though, I like spawning a chopper and trying to dodge missiles, so I put on an atmospheric or epic cue.
  22. Given the choice though, I'd easily take Ghostbusters II instead, since AFAIK nothing from that has ever surfaced.
