      Donation time at JWFan   01/16/18

      Hello!

For those who may not know, JWFan relies entirely on donations to keep running.  Donations pay for our server bills, as well as keeping our domain and Invision Powerboard fees.
As an incentive to donate, I am offering a series of free CDS to anyone who donates over a certain amount!   Last time this was a modest success, where I raised $500 of our desired $1,000 and mailed out 3 free CDs to lucky JWFanners.  This time I'll be doing the raffling a littler different!   Our goal is $1000 once again, and I will have four tiers of free CDs you can win once again.  But this time, the more you donate, the more entries into each raffle you'll get!   Each $10 you donate gets your name put into the raffle mug once for the $10 pool, twice for the $20 pool, thrice for the $30 pool, and five times into the $50 pool.  Here is the list of CDs you can win - and I have more to add at a later time when I get a little more organized (I'll post what they are by Friday at the latest)   The $10 pool (Every $10 you donate gets you one ticket into this pool) - will be drawn as soon as we hit $250 donated Tyler Bates - God of War; Ascension (OST, La La Land Records) Danny Elfman - Planet of the Apes (OST, Sony) Danny Elfman - Taking Woodstock (OST, La La Land Records) Christopher Lennertz - Identity Thief (OST, La La Land Records) Christopher Lennertz - Medal of Honor: Rising Sun (OST) Michael Giacchino - Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (OST, Varese Sarabande) Dave Holmes & Various - Ocean's 11 (OST, WB Records) Joel McNeely & Various - Hollywood '94 (Varese Sarabande) Joe Kraemer - Jack Reacher (OST, La La Land Records) John Williams - Born on the Fourth of July (OST, MCA Records)   The $20 pool (Every $10 you donate gets you two ticket into this pool, must donate at least $20 to be eligible) - will be drawn as soon as we hit $500 donated John Barry - First Love (La La Land) Jerry Goldsmith - The Challenge (La La Land) Jerry Goldsmith - In Harm's Way (2009 Intrada edition) Jerry Goldsmith - The Red Pony (Varese) Alan Silvestri - Dutch (La La Land) Shirley Walker - Willard (La La Land) John Williams - Family Plot (Varese Sarabande) or, any of the above CDs if you prefer   The $30 pool (Every $10 you donate gets you three ticket into this pool, must donate at least $30 to be eligible) - will be drawn as soon as we hit $750 donated James Horner - Gorky Park (OOP Kritzerland Edition) James Newton Howard - Outbreak (2CD, Varese Deluxe Edition) Laurence Rosenthal - Clash of the Titans (2CD, Intrada) John Williams - The Fury (2CD, La La Land) John Williams - Jane Eyre (OOP, La La Land) or, any of the above CDs if you prefer   The $50 pool (Every $10 you donate gets you five ticket into this pool, must donate at least $50 to be eligible) - will be drawn as soon as we hit $1,000 donated Jerry Fielding - The Wild Bunch (3CD, FSM) Ira Newborn - The Naked Gun trilogy (3CD, La La Land) Shirley Walker and Various - Batman: The Animated Series Volume 3 (4CD, La La Land) or, any of the above CDs if you prefer     All shipping will be paid by me to anywhere in the world!   I will pull names from a hat for each pool, and you get to pick whatever CD set you want if I pull your name!   To be eligible, leave your JWFan username in the comments area of your donation.  If you want to donate but not be in the running for a free CD, mention that in the comment.   Use this link or the link on the mainpage.       Thank you!   Jason, Ricard, and Andreas.

  1. Andrew Lockington is a composer I discovered via his City Of Ember score. I though it was good, had nice themes but it lacked something to be a bit more than just "good". Then I heard good things about his Journey To The Center Of The Earth score and so I checked it out, and I thought it was a step up from his previous score, with stronger themes and some cool action music (Storm, for example) and grand heroic moments (the last minute of Building The Raft). But I still thought it missed something to be called great. I later read reviews about Journey To The Mysterious Island (the sequel score), and all said that it was an improvement over the previous score, but for some reason, I didn't check it immediately. It is only recently that I listened to it (about 2 months ago), and I was blown away right from the start when hearing the Main Titles. The Island theme is what sold me on it. It's just a great theme that simultaneously conveys a sense of adventure and mystery in a perfect way (it is given a supber rendition in Who's Up For An Adventure). The Atlantis theme is also another highlight of the score, and is given some beautiful choral renditions throughout the score. There is also some nice exotic orchestrations that gives the score more diversity. But what really convinced me that Lockington is a composer with a great potential is the bit at 2'14 in Let's Power This Thing Up. That's when I realized he's a composer to follow. Now, I just listened to his latest score (Percy Jackson And The Sea Of Monsters) today, and that was a bit of a letdown after all the promise he showed with Journey 2, but I learned that there'll be a third Journey movie, and apparently, it'll have the same director than the previous one, so chances are Lockington will be back and I'm sure this time he'll deliver yet again a splendid score. So, what do you guys think of him? Do you like him? Do you think he is a hack? Do you think we should cut him some slack? Speak now, or forever hold your peace. 2. OK, people : you wanted it, that's why I created it! I had an epiphany recently (once more): we've got lots of complete cue lists for different scores on the forum. The problem is that they're all scattered through various threads with hundred and hundred of pages. As a result, when you're looking for one, you're in deep shit. You can use the "Search" function (yeah, right!), but we all know no one ever found what he/she was looking for when using that function. This is why I decided to create this thread, to centralize every complete cue list we have. I'll update this post as people add cue lists, so that you can find the one you're looking for easily. There are a few rules I would like you to follow, though: 1. Give your sources! Giving a complete cue list without a source is like giving someone a spoon but no food: that's not very nice, and not very useful. 2. One post = one cue list. Not more. Once again, that'll be easier for everyone if it is that way. 3. If you have an incomplete list, but later find more cue titles, edit your original post. Do not make a new post with your list and the new cue titles. That would make it easier for everyone to find what they're looking for. 4. Do not post complete cue lists from Williams' scores. LeBlanc is working his ass off to gather them, and I don't want to get in his way. He once threatened to ban me just because I posted a tracklist from an upcoming score he had already posted. The guy is insane. To find all the available John Williams Complete Cue Lists, go here. EDIT: John Williams cue lists are now allowed in this thread! 5. Enjoy the thread. If you don't, get the hell out of here. 3. Why don't you do it, instead of moaning about it? God, you're insufferable when you're whining like that!
  4. It may be the only missed opportunity, but it's as big a missed opportunity as it gets!
  5. Hans Zimmer's DUNKIRK

The music is often a distraction, but it's not the composer's fault? OK...
  6. What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)

Wait, you've seen that crap, too?
  7. America

  8. And its capital will be the brand new planet Cocranscut!
  9. Yes, just like with the Resistance, the First Order, as well as the Starkiller Base, they need to find new words for basically the same concepts!
  10. Good post by gkgyver, I must say. Shame it will be quickly bashed and dismissed.
  11. Well, yeah, since there's only Across The Stars and it's on the OST, sure...
  12. Originally, I was one of those who would have liked Finn to die there, too, but after thinking about it, I understand now why they didn't do it: given you have Luke's death a few minutes after that, they probably wanted it to be THE big emotional moment of the climax and didn't want it diminished/ruined by another death scene prior to it. Fuck knows. Apparently, he and Snoke can't even be counted as Sith, because... Fuck knows. I thought all Force-users on the Dark Side were Sith, but apparently not. What's the difference between Snoke/Kylo and the Sith? I don't know. I guess it's explained in a book...
  13. THE POST - SCORE Thread

Incoming insults from hornist in 3... 2... 1...
  14. The real reason why Lando wasn't in Episode VIII is pretty obvious: they wanted to keep the reveal that Finn is a Calrissian for Episode IX. This will complete his character arc in a super way, from a nobody with no name to a classy Calrissian. Of course, this will all be foreshadowed in a very funny scene in the Solo movie next year, where we'll see the young Han say: "Can you imagine me with a baby? Hahahaha!!" to which young Lando will respond: "Hahaha! I know! Let's make a deal: if you have child, so will I! Hahah! Not taking any risks that way!"
  15. Do not be sad. You're everyone's favourite bald guy, now! Ah, OK. Agreed, then.
  16. Yep. I think a way to make it work would have been: have Luke basically refuse to train Rey (or start training her a bit but ultimately giving up, after being frightened by her potential, just like in the film), then have her go to Kylo, play the throne room scene as it does in the film, and end it with Rey joining Kylo (basically thinking: "Well, if I couldn't learn the ways of the Force with Luke, maybe I could do that with Ren. I mean, he killed Snoke, maybe he's not that bad after all..."), and then, instead of killing Luke at the end of the film, have Episode IX revolve around him trying to bring both characters to the Light Side... You could have a scene in that final episode with Kylo about to kill Luke, but stopped by Rey, who grabs him and throws him into a bottomless pit while shouting "No... No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" TFA has one strong character (Rey). The rest (Finn, Poe, Kylo...) are just OK.
  17. Need advice, Customs is acting up

It's possible a lot of customers complained, so they thought they'd add a warning on their website. But ultimately, people are supposed to know about customs and there's absolutely nothing the labels can do about those (which is probably why LLL don't think it's worth mentioning on their website).
  18. Need advice, Customs is acting up

Yep. You were just lucky your previous CDs were not caught by the customs. And I don't see why LLL would need to mention that on their website: you're suppose to know that.
