I think Episode X's principal photography wrapped in 2019. The film was made back-to-back with trIXie (Episode IX's shooting title).

Yes, I think John Williams will score X, for one reason, because of Daisy Ridley's involvement. Remember that massive amount (90+ minutes) of music we were told about that was composed for IX but went unused? I don't think it was simply dropped... or that it was even composed for IX.

    Pathetic.

So I can't even emphasize words without being criticized?

Allow me to put to bed any thought that I'm being "artificial" or "satirical". Perhaps you're unaware that I predicted Palpatine's return - and that Rey would be related to him - when everyone here thought I was nuts.

Why would you think I haven't discovered "something real" in this instance? I can assure you, I have.

Oh, I'll get there, Chen... within 16 hours of X.

The "shock" comes when you're proven wrong, and I'm proven right... again.

On Page 142, I revealed my theory. Before and after that, I presented relevant film/canon evidence across numerous posts. Nothing about the theory is bullshit. Like Arpy, it seems you have a personal problem with the likelihood that you don't understand Star Wars... and have sunk into a state of denial without any substantive rebuttal or counter-position.

So by your definition, I am not a troll. You, on the other hand...

Certainly no big "ERROR" sign in my eyes, Chen. No readjustment needed, either, since not seeing Episode X in 2020 makes no difference to my "conspiracy theorem", which is based in substantive and consistent canon evidence, not commonly-held opinions and assessments such as, 'The new trilogy was stupid and made no sense!'

Turns out, seeing Luke Skywalker in his prime was the big reveal for 2020. Mark Hamill said that the scene had been in the works for a year. So Lucasfilm has proven themselves quite capable of keeping secrets.

Since I don't wish to spoil it for you all, specifics of what I've "realized" about Star Wars will be posted shorty before X comes out. (I predict a May or December '21 release.)

Mark my words, Manakin, it's you - and countless others around the world - who will be proven "completely wrong"... about a great many things. 😈

Not exactly.  The Phantom Menace made a point of how Anakin "must have Jedi reflexes" to be able to race pods, as he was the only human who could.  So clearly he was able to use the Force, even if he didn't consciously know it.  I felt as though The Child was doing the same thing, just operating on instinct.

Here is how it would have looked like with the images:

It really fits the dark, fearful atmosphere of that scene a lot better than the music that ended up being used.

I was finally able to play this through today. I had either forgotten--or never realized--how unforgiving this score is. I can't think of much more music in Williams' output that is so relentlessly oppressive and unnerving. Even the lighter material has a shadow over it. It's very much a companion to AI  and Minority Report in that loose sci-fi trilogy Spielberg made in the early 2000s. I really appreciate the action music for its unrelenting rhythmic drive and reliance on mid- and low-range colors--the antiphonal timpani (!) and massed horns and trombones with low strings that mark The Intersection Scene and The Ferry Scene, but I had forgotten about the textural elements--I really love repeated figures for high muted trumpets--in the basement scenes and the lurching, unstable chords in the horns near the climax of The Red Planet. I wish there were more examples outside of this score of the emotionally aloof, icy string writing that Williams used so well here, where two contrapuntal lines sort of move around each other. In terms of atmosphere, cues like Refugee Status remind me a little of how Williams scored the family separation/Shanghai street scenes in Empire of the Sun and I have no complaints. It's definitely a score I'll have to be in the mood to listen to, but I'm glad to have a treatment that emphasizes the musical narrative.

I received my copy almost a week ago but didn't get to share my thoughts on it.

It has been one of my holy grails. I really dislike the OST which makes the score seem meandering and aimless. It wasn’t even about the missing material as much as the presentation and sequencing. I never understood why you'd have the militaristic climactic cue before the basket sequence. The music culminates by track 12 and never really recovers after that and just falls flat as a listening experience.

It's clear right off the bat the score is better in chronological form. Yes, there are some low-key cues here and there but they placed all over the programme. True, the basement sequence is really slow as a result but that serves as a break of sorts between the high emotion of the hill scene and the adrenaline of the three climactic that follow. And it is also true to the book so dramatically makes sense given how the plot becomes more introspective and claustrophobic. It is interesting to hear so many of the bigger cues undoing some of the more curious album microedits.

I like how the "epilogue" string adagio is threaded throughout the score serving as a principal theme of sorts before "resolving" in the reunion scene and Epilogue. It wasn't clear from the old album where it first appeared in track 11 (I think?). But here it serves as a steely and cold elegy for the outmatched human kind. It’s a loss of innocence theme for Ray’s family. One of the more interesting concert pieces as well, shame it is never performed and/or recorded. I absolutely adore the three trumpets at the end of the epilogue. Very Herrmanesque.

The new mix really helps to appreciate just how dark and oppressive some of the score is. The old album wasn’t bad sounding or anything but you can definitely hear more detail this time (like synths in The Ferry Scene, for example). It is really in your face during the bigger action setpieces that pound away without mercy. It’s just pure adrenaline. Some of those must have been really challenging to perform.

Assembly-wise or sound-wise, I have absolutely no complaints. Placing two reunion cues right next to each other is a nice and elegant solution to the “four alternates” dilemma. I don’t necessarily need to have the old album on here but it’s nice to have it in upgraded sound. Plus I actually like the album version of Escape from the City. And it's nice to hear a slightly different performance of Epilogue in the bonus section. Very happy with this album but I wouldn't expect anything else from Mike.

I really want to vote ROTJ just because that score is screaming for a comprehensive release which finally assembles all the recorded music. The sound quality on the Demaster is stunning, so they've clearly unearthed some pristine elements since the SE was released.

After analysing the spectrograms, it appears the lost album sessions have been found. No idea about Max Rebo though, I'll be slightly devo if that is still lost.

But really, between all the alternates, different film/album recordings and SE revisions (the song and closing cue) that score desperately needs Mike's magic touch.

I went with Return of the Jedi. It's a classic Williams score from the most fertile period in his career that surely would be more beloved if the sound quality of the music for the climax wasn't so atrocious. Mike needs to work his magic into improving the sound quality of this score ASAP.

What a cool poll!  And thanks for making the ballot easy!

I'm looking specifically at the 1975-1984 Golden Age.

Both Witches of Eastwick and Born on the 4th lack the golden period magic by a couple of years.

But thank you for giving me a reason to revisit Witches, which I haven't in a while.  Bot4thoJ is crippled by the brevity and repetition of its album.  There doesn't seem like much to it for it to be rated so highly.

Now...  the Love Theme from Heartbeeps... if you like the friendship theme from E.T., then this is an easy choice.     (This is the hill I'll die on ). The River would be my second choice for the way it just nails Americana.

I probably should've picked Dracula over The Cowboys, but years of the OST's reliance on the theme has it still catching up for me.

Wow. This is a big one for me. The film meant a lot to me as a young boy. Not to get too involved or emotional about it, but I first saw The Land Before Time when I was around 5. My parents were divorcing and I was dealing with death for the first time in losing my grandfather. A film that centered around finding your family again was a bit of an anchor for a young Alan, and to this day I can barely get past the first few scenes with dry eyes.

It was also one of the very first times I became aware of music and has remained one of my favourite scores ever since, despite never actually owning a copy of it. This will be a day one purchase for me and I'll have a box of tissues ready for when I listen to it for the first time.

False. I have read the substantive canon material and novelizations... and realized certain major elements that have been baked into the story. The vast majority of the fans - including you - have not. I also understand the films as George Lucas intended them to be interpreted... when it seems that the fans at large haven't a clue.

Your belief in this 'leaked' script and pre-production art proves to me that you are ignorant, naïve, and gullible.

Oh, I do... enough to create a book. But why would I take further time to try and convince you? You've already made up your mind. Lucasfilm will take it from here.

Some things, perhaps. The upcoming Obi-Wan mini-series, more likely. But the biggest revelations and resolutions will be saved for the Final Trilogy. It will prove that you were wrong on many levels. One reveal in particular - that I'm confident will be in Episode X - will prove that Palpatine's return was inevitable.

@Demodex I wouldn't private message you on any circumstances.

That's not what McDiarmid said. He said JJ had contacted him "about a year" before "the middle of filming" of TROS.

This doesn't mean that he wasn't approached before then - before a specific part had been written for him - to confirm his availability.

I don't know to which "people" you are referring, but use of The Force Theme  is no longer attributed to Obi-Wan, specifically.

Rey being a Kenobi makes no sense in the grander narrative of the Saga. None.

Your assumptions that Lucasfilm doesn't understand the narrative and themes of the Saga... and that moving forward with the Saga, the company had no plan for its main characters - most notably, the through-line villain... is hilarious.

You will come to realize that these parable-based films - all nine of them - were designed to challenge the audience, leaving many of the explanations, pay-offs, and revelations for the third films of their respective trilogies. Many more are still to come.

You'd be wise to stop posting here, if for no other reason than to avoid further embarrassment once your initial, ignorant assessments are proven to be shockingly short-sighted.
