JWFAN member toothless still hasn't chimed in to give his opinion on the matter. I wonder how he feels about all that...

Somewhere, maybe at this very minute, John Williams is sitting somewhere writing or orchestrating new Star Wars music.  Squeeee!

I will buy directly from La-La Land records, and optimize the shipping cost by ordering also Empire of the Sun.

Going directly to bankruptcy, but with an excellent score to lead the way!

Admin note: This thread is largely hype for the release before it's release date, and then ordering/shipping/"it's arrived!"  talk afterward; Please relocate to the following thread to discuss the actual musical content of the release:

Scarpia got a reaction from Marcus in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Gareth Edwards 2016)
Despite the dialogue, I liked the trailer, but the music transported me immediately out of the Star Wars universe, right into the world of generic action films that I'm never interested on seeing.

Each trailer makes me realise more and mroe that lovely visuals are not enough to make a Star Wars movie.

Honestly, I consider the 8CD box set to be worth the money

Superman: The Movie sounds better than the Rhino release, and contains a bunch of cool alternates that weren't on that Superman II & III are actually pretty fun.  II is primarily comprised of Superman: The Movie material, but its all arranged together in new ways.  Superman III is a pretty wacky comedy score Superman IV is a SURPRISINGLY good score.  Like you I was originally only interested in the JW tracks, but it turns out that Courage's score is honestly quite good, all the way through! The Ron Jones cartoon scores are like a nice bonus feature Just my humble opinion.

I hope Vader gets max 2 minute cameo. The anatomically incorrect pre-Episode IV armour is causing way too much heartache for it to be worth it.

Randomly got excited about this and went looking around to see if a release date had been announced, since it should be coming up soon. Couldn't find anything, but I did see that the original Sports Illustrated announcement mentioned this, which I don't think any of us caught at the time?

Scarpia reacted to Dixon Hill in How would you convince someone that John Williams is the best film composer of all time?
One can surmise two possibilities for your and Will's situation.  The first is that the people you're talking about are extremely knowledgeable on the subject, but are sadly infected by a vapid elitism which causes them to turn their noses up at film music.  The second is that these people aren't in fact all that knowledgeable or interested in classical music, but put on a front of cultured-ness, and have latched on to the aforementioned vapid elitism without truly understanding it.

In other words, they're either not as smart as they think they are, or know they're not as smart as they want to appear, and compensate by criticizing an easy target.

There is no middle ground on this issue.  There is no room for the usual platitudes about taste and opinions and agreeing to disagree and hurr hurr hurr.  You don't have to like Williams or any other film composer, but there is no excuse for someone of true intelligence to allow themselves to fall into the trap of snubbing an entire art form - one which, beyond any argument, is largely responsible for keeping the core traditions of classical music and the performers thereof relevant, more than the world of classical music itself now is.

Scarpia reacted to karelm in What year did John Williams grow his beard?
The answer to this topic is obvious that the more hair he had on top of his head, the less need he had for hair under his chin. As he lost hair, he grew the beard to compensate.  As proof, note this photograph with partial baldness and partial beard.

I actually almost forgot to listen to Midway March, but fortunately I remembered while sitting in the plane waiting to take off.

And then I Can Fly Anything: I tried to sync real-world take off with Finn and Poe's TIE fighter take off and it was marvelous. Williams's action music is so fun and exhilarating. I was trying very hard to suppress a silly grin from breaking out on my face.
