@Pieter Boelen I believe Abrams Superman film is seperate?
Oh, they're making TWO?!?
That's... ambitious.

Uninspired choice of composer aside, I'm actually hugely optimistic for the movie itself! Even if it won't dethrone Superman '78, I think it at least has a good chance of being the best since.
Superman is my favorite fictional character (don't let my username/avatar fool you ) and Gunn has been saying all the right things for me in regard to story, tone, character. The comics he's cited as his key sources of inspiration are among my all-time favorites. I think all the casting choices so far have been spot on. Not to mention Guardians 3 was my favorite Marvel movie in quiiiiite a while.
I'm hyped.
At least I'm glad to see JJ Abrams is no longer directing.
After the garbage that were STID and TRoS, I really don't like him much anymore.

Here's the movies I'm looking forward to seeing this year
Jan 12 - Mean Girls - the original is a classic; This looks bad from the trailers, yet I must see how badly they ruined it
Jan 26 - Miller's Girl - looks hilariously bad, will be fun to watch with beer
Feb 2 - Argylle - I still like Mathew Vaughn a lot
Feb 9 - Lisa Frankenstein - I haven't seen a trailer yet (is there one?) but Kathryn Newton & Carla Gugino have me on board
Feb 23 - Drive-Away Dolls - this was supposed to come out last year but delayed from the strikes. I love Geraldine Viswanathan and Beanie Feldstein, and this is directed by Ethan Coen!
Mar 1 - Dune Part 2 - loved the first
Mar 8 - Love Lies Bleeding - Katy O'Brian + Kristen Stewart, good lord
Mar 29 - Ghostbusters Frozen Empire - eh, it'll probably be bad, but have enough fun parts. The first was a plane watch for me
Mar 29 - Mickey17 - Bong Joon-ho's followup to Parasite. Dunno why there isn't more buzz on this!
Apr 26 - Civil War - I never even saw Alex Garland's last film (Men), but I liked Ex Machina and Annihilation to want to see this
May 3 - The Fall Guy - will probably be dumb fun + I loved Bullet Train
May 17 - IF - definitely a home watch, might be good
May 24 - Furiosa - I hope its half as good as Fury Road - if it is, it'll be worth it
May 24 - Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - Curious to see where they go after Reeves' excellent two entries
May ?? - Thelma The Unicorn - just for the score
June 7 - Ballerina - Ana de Armas in an action flick? Sure!
June 14 - Inside Out 2 - I'm SO skeptical on this, but must see what they do
June 28 - A Quiet Place Day 1 - I dunno. I loved the first two, but with this being a prequel and Krasinki jumping ship to make IF instead, it'll probably suck
June 28 - Horizon Part 1 - I have faith in Costner
July 12 - Project Artemis - Scarlett Johansson, where've you been?
July 26 - Deadpool 3 - I can't imagine this will be good, but bringing Jackman into the fold was a genius move, so I have faith I guess
Summer - Beverly Hills Cop 4 - eh, why not
Aug 2 - Harold and the Purple Crayon - just for the score
Aug 9 - Borderlands - just for the cast
Aug 16 - Horizon Part 2 - only if Part 1 was good
Aug 16 - Alien Romulus - hopefully better than Covenant
Sep 6 - Beetlejuice 2 - why not
Sep 20 - Wolfs - Jon Watts' followup to his Spider-man trilogy is an action-thriller starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Amy Adams? How is there not more buzz on this?
Nov 15 - Red One - good cast, hopefully its fun enough
Nov 22 - Gladiator 2 - Ridley Scott films are always worth watching at least once
Dec 13 - The War of the Rohirrim - why not
Dec 25 - Nosferatu - sure
Dec ?? - That Christmas - just for the score
?? - The Old Guard 2 - I'm not even sure if this is still slotted for 2024 or not, but I liked the first one a lot
?? - The Mothership - This Halle Berry / Netflix movie was filmed in 2021 near where I live, including in a diner I've eaten in. Been waiting since then for it to come out. What happened to it?
Wow, it's EPIC how little interest I can muster for ANY of those.
Where did the years go when there were TONS of fun movies?!?
Not much better on the streaming services either.
At least we've got Percy Jackson.
But that's about it...?

That would be a nice change! He loves doing pieces from every single other Indy film, so it seems like ToD might come up again sooner or later. If I got to choose, I'd throw Mine Car Chase in there

Honourable second place: Hedwig's Theme
To my pleasant surprise, that one was used as the finale piece of this event with Dutch astronaut André Kuipers:
It was an interpretation I had never heard before or since.
I made a phone recording of it, but it's not very good...

Suite from SpaceCamp would be my first thought.

Yeah, I enjoyed the entire prologue a lot.
I just wished there could've been more archaeology to it...
Not too big on war movies myself.
But for what it was, it was pretty darn cool.

A post-TRoS world, eh?
Now that DOES sound apocalyptic!!

It's a very good film!
I do believe so, yes.
Much better than Skull, at least.
I won't put it on the same level as the first three, but it's a much better entry than I feared.

Yep.
Exactly that.

As much as I love Williams, Dial left me quite disappointed.
Oddly, for once, I like the movie better than the score.
Dial definitely deserved an Oscar nomination for Best Special Effects though!
That opening scene is really something else.
That said, I reckon Williams should continue doing movies for another six years.
He needs to outdo that embarrassing record of Walt Disney's.

I put white lines after every sentence to force myself to be short.
Does kind-of make my posts look like poems.

I also worry about the art design.
To set itself apart from the movies, it needs to look different.
But the Hogwarts we have is already absolutely iconic!
How are they supposed to improve on that??

Yeah; it's like they don't care at all.
"Continuity? What's that?"
Bonus points for the book being based on unmade episodes by themselves in the first place.
Wha??

Emperors tomb suffers from synth underscore tracks though.
True, that.
Budget was showing, I guess...
At least it got a mostly orchestral score.
Unlike the little bit in Infernal Machine...
30 minutes ago, Luke Skywalker said:and it has no Jungle chase 🙂
That one doesn't impress me so much either.
Apart from the unused alternate ending, which is really cool.

Hope the guy takes some inspiration from Emperor's Tomb.
Now THAT'S an Indy score!
I like it better than the last two Williams ones.
Haab's Star Wars stuff has yet to make any impact on me though.
And his original Staff of Kings wasn't very inspiring either.
For background during gameplay, sure... it's functional, I suppose.
Does fit the style.
But doesn't take any life of its own.

Is it wrong that I liked this movie more than Pirates of the Caribbean:The Curse of the Black Pearl (I haven't seen any of the others - because after the 18th hour of the first one (that movie DID NOT NEED TO BE SO FREAKIN' LONG), I'd really had enough of Pirates: Bruckheimer Style)?
I like them all.
But yes, CutThroat Island is pretty great!

Then I’ll have to go back and revisit it. I could have sworn when I listened to the album or briefly skimmed the show, it was just generic filler music.
There was an album?

I don't think the other Netflix series quoted actual music from Powell
Riders/Defenders of Berk/Race to the Edge?
Thought those did contain some Powell themes?

His Dark Materials wasn't bad.
I hope they'll dare to be a bit more FUN with Potter though.
There needs to be MAGIC in there.
Holy crap, that's soon!
