Star Wars has been little more than a money-making venture since Return of the Jedi. Remember Ewoks?
People view the entire OT with rose-tinted glasses but there were only two genuine masterpieces in that trilogy. Just imagine if the series didn't have JW to save the day time and time again!

But my God those long tracks are annoying.  Needs an album more approachable in its program.

I can only hope that annoucning ET now means something much bigger is coming. As  much as I appreciate the fact that we'll finally have a complete edition, I'm not really excited for this one. Hoping for Titanic and/or HP as well and I might be interested in CE3K if I ever watch it.

Seriously though: I couldn't pick a single "best" JW score. But if I had to try narrow it down to whatever small number of contenders, CE3K would be one of them.

Thought so. In other words: I've got great stuff to look forward to and I barely even realise it yet!

Waterworld is one of my favorite JNH as well, It s like mad max in blue. But one thing that made me love that movie is the cue called "swimming" which is the most beautiful cue JNH wrote, a truly uplifting or deep diving as you like piece of music. A shame there s no demo for that one or alternate because the album is worth buying for that one.

Can't look a gift horse in the mouth.  I will welcome this release with open arms.  Hopping onto the site and seeing the quick successive announcements of both this and E.T. at the top of the news feed was unexpected but spectacular.

It's true. But then there are the new cues he's written lately for live to projection concerts, his work on various theme park rides, Harry Potter world opening celebrations, and so on. Perhaps he feels compelled to protect the integrity of his scores, as they and their associated films continue to live on.

Thanks for catching me up! That sounds like a mess, for people like us, haha. I guess my preference would be to include Inside the Mothership in the bonus tracks, and not with the main score.
 
It's too bad the new 4K rerelease is the director's cut... I would have liked to see the original theatrical cut. Oh well, what can you do.
 
Williams has been an awfully good sport to accommodate directors' whims on films like this, or the Star Wars special editions! Especially in this case, where his new music was cut back out again...

I leave this thread for ten minutes and I'm already lost.

Oh my gosh! Complete E.T., complete Close Encounters, a new Star Wars score and a new Spielberg drama score... all in the next 3.5 months! What a time to be alive. Certainly dulls any disappointment of Williams passing on Ready Player One (which makes perfect sense if he wanted a break before starting Star Wars IX).

In 2017, Christmas officially arrived on 30th August.

How wrong am I to be massively more excited for Harry Potter/Indiana Jones/Star Wars than about ET and especially CE3K?
I feel kind-of guilty for not being more excited now than I am...
 
Anyway, that doesn't stop this from being great, great news!

It's "Der Königgrätzer Marsch", written by Johann Gottfried Piefke. The version heard in the film was arranged by Sandy Courage and conducted by JW purposefully for the film.

Well I won't be losing sleep over that.
