In many cities in Asia, one will find small Zen "mediation gardens" where one can escape the hustle and bustle of the city to a place of quiet reflection. That's what this thread is my friend. A place of peace and nourishment for those needing an oasis from the chaos of the other threads. Where one can contemplate the magic love between a simple dwarf and his beautiful she-Elf without fear of judgement or shame. Peace be with you.

Yeah, well I knew someone would say that. You can't make everyone happy. -
What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)

What's amazing about the CR's is that they exist in the first place. That we're not all whinging on here today about "where are the Lord of the Rings expanded scores" and scrounging for bootlegs and putting them as #1 on Holy Grail lists. They just arrived before anyone really had a chance to ask for them or had any right to expect them. I can still remember downloading the PDF's of Doug's extensive liner notes and thinking...wow, someone took the time to do this...and it's FREE? And looks amazing? Unbelievable. I'm not sure I even appreciated how special they were when I bought them. -
I was hoping to contribute some artwork to the thread.

Warning: Don't Google "Tauriel & Kili porn." You can't unsee it.

The Classical Music Recommendation Thread
Nick1Ø66 replied to Muad'Dib's topic in General Discussion
For any fellow Wagner fans out there, or fellow Stephen Fry fans, while looking for stuff to watch while I'm stuck home sick I came across this wonderful video about Fry (who's Jewish) and his love for Wagner. Can't believe I missed this one, given that I live in the UK. Incredibly informative & entertaining. And really inspiring to see Fry talk with such passion about Wagner and his music. @Jay if you don't feel this comment belongs in this thread, feel free to move it wherever. -
Cretin! Yeah, this is an odd choice. So they didn't mention it as an influence in the program even? Obviously Star Wars is often used by orchestras to try to draw people more into classical music, but this seems a little on the nose.

Many years ago a friend and I did a road trip and we played a game where we only communicated the way people in sit coms do, so everything we said had to be clever and sound like a punchline, and only responsed to with witty comebacks. A variation of this game was that we'd only communicate in Don LaFontaine movie trailer voice..e.g..."In a world that runs on fuel, if we don't find a petrol station soon we've going to be fucked". Yet another variation was that we had to communicate in only film quotes. Yeah come to think of it all that lasted about 5 minutes. We mostly just listened to REM.

I sorta love how far off script Hamill has gotten promoting these movies. Same with Carrie Fisher before him. Just completely with no fucks left to give.

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)

Quite. You could not wish for a finer score. -
So you're saying there's no escape?
-
Yes. In fact, you could argue that the more successful a film is in transporting you to another time, place and reality, the more "escapist" it is. And certainly a film that is able to show you the world (even profound suffering) through someone else's eyes, and a different reality from your own, is a kind of escapism from your own life.
-
And this is how it's done.
-
Exactly. I'm just saying you don't have to shut off your brain and think of nothing but unicorns and rainbows for something to be regarded as escapist. And I'd probably be much less emphatic about it if Thor wasn't involved.
-
No, Thor (sigh) what's a "massive fail" is your usual pseudo intellectual bullshit, and inability to communicate without sounding like a pretentious ass. BTW, all of those are from just a couple pages in this thread, and none directed at me. So...
-
And that, is why you fail. You pretentious consumption of countless "serious" films Thor hasn't given you an ounce of insight into anything. Have you watched so much to come away with so little? Oh, and these are my first comments in this thread, so reading comp is apparently a thing with you. You should try cracking a book open sometimes (an no Thor, film studies books don't count).
-
We should meet for a movie sometime. No need to look for me, I'll know you by the black turtleneck.
-
Well whatever those notions are, Schindler's List is still escapism. Just because it's seriously horrific subject matter doesn't mean it's not escapism. That's absurd.
