  1. Sadly, one of the things we'll likely never get to hear is what JW would have done with a straight-up fantasy film (Harry Potter notwithstanding), or better yet, a series of them. I can't believe he escaped the 80's without doing at least one. I mean, would it have killed him to do Ladyhawke?
  2. Captain Kirk is the best Trek Captain. Who else? I have mixed feelings on Mount's Captain Pike. On one hand, I think he's a good actor and his portrayal of Pike is charismatic and effective. He's the best thing on NuTrek (the Wesley Kirk, on the other hand, is dreadful). Despite enjoying Mount's portrayal of Pike, however, I think most of the words the appalling writers on that show put in his mouth are awful. And while SNW is the best of the current lot of Trek show, that's not saying much. Aside from a few scattered episodes, most of it's not very good. The Orville is the best Star Trek we've gotten since Enterprise, and I'm afraid that's not coming back.
  3. LOVE Twister. Bad SFX (and I don't think Twister's is bad anyway) in a movie seldom bothers me, especially if the movie's good. And Twister is great. The greatest storm-chaser movie featuring flying cows and a young Philip Seymour Hoffman calling gravy its own food group of all time. They're doing a remake/reboot which I'd say will suck except Joseph Kosinski's directing it which is gives me some semblance of hope. Tom Cruise as a storm chaser, running away from tornadoes, would be too much to hope for.
  4. You should. That's unfortunate. It makes him more awesome.
  5. Funny, I always thought episode 2 of Band of Brothers, with the D-Day Airdrop, was the Saving Private Ryan of aviation.
  6. Your overconfidence is your weakness. Are there any other kind?
  7. Shatner's Twitter feed is hilarious. He's as unwoke, dismissive, cranky and cantankerous as you'd expect him to be. I don't think he writes any of it himself mind you, he clearly has someone younger and more knowledgeable about Star Trek and pop culture than Shatner will ever be run his channel, but It's nonetheless glorious.
  8. DS9 ran in the 90's, and IMO is the best of the Berman-era Trek, especially the last 4 seasons. And while Voyager & Enterprise aren't anywhere near DS9 or TNG in terms of quality, I've reevaluated both in recent years and have come to appreciate them more, especially in comparison to NuTrek.
  9. Have they? I'll need to see a lot more evidence than Ridley not taking the bait on a loaded question before I believe that.
  10. If I'm not mistaken, I recall that Lucas significantly cut his "director's fee" in exchange for merchandising rights, which seems to be a business-driven move.
  11. Yeah, it's hard to imagine, but it wasn't really clear Yoda was in hiding pre-prequels.
  12. I have a long flight to Australia coming up just after the final episode airs, so I'm saving it for that. Though now that I think about it, Masters of the Air might not be the best show to watch on a plane... 🤔
  13. Yeah. Even seeing those films the first time, it never once thought that Yoda was actually from Dagaboh. Not that it's unreasonable to assume so, or that Lucas didn't intend it. It's just not something that really occurred to me. I always assumed he was from some place else.
  14. I actually don't think Mattris is a fanatic, just a very effective troll. Well, perhaps a fanatical troll, but a troll nonetheless.
  15. JWFan is disenchanted with everything. Star Wars. Star Trek. Indiana Jones. MCU. DCU. What does JWFan think is wrong with movies and TV today? What isn’t JWFan disenchanted with? Is there any good left in the genre world, and is it worth fighting for? Discuss.
  16. Depends on the kind of soup. Something like Consomm, well, that's not really a meal. I mean Chicken Gumbo, or Matzah Ball, or Mushroom Barley. Then I would agree with you. Those are very hardy soups. Now a dinner at a nice restaurant like Mendy's...that's a meal
  17. Yes, but is soup a meal? Discuss.
