1977 reacted to mahler3 in James Horner's WILLOW (1988) - NEW! 2022 2-CD Intrada Records
It’s detriment free and sounds better than ever, so please have faith. You’ll hear specifics when Doug and Roger talk later on the show. If you can’t listen live I’ll post a link.
Chris Malone worked on restoring a particular cue and we all know that he is from the school of Mike Matessino excellence!

It may have. It's been a while since I was there.
(one minute later)
Oops! I just Google Mapped it. It's shut. Bummer.

Too much eclectic to get a like.

I kept all my longboxes for decades, and then sold off all but a handful of them. Sometimes I wish I hadn’t but it sort of is like hoarding if you don’t display it.

All this talk of clicks in recent Intrada releases has me worried. Other than Extreme Prejudice and The Last Castle, are there any others that are simarly blighted?
You forgot to post a photo of the longbox that my copy arrived in

1977 reacted to Brundlefly in James Horner's WILLOW (1988) - NEW! 2022 2-CD Intrada Records
You have the Air Force One Deluxe Edition? That one is insane, like they just clicked on "normalize" for every cue. The cue "Empty Rooms" has two very loud orchestra beats in the middle, that's why the quieter rest of the piece is barely audible. To be fair, it is quite a common issue with film music releases.
That is the thing that confused me the most about the recent flawed releases: The flaws were mostly very obvious - I spotted these infamous clicks on Extreme Prejudice during my first listen - so it seemed like there was no such thing as quality checks and listening passes.

I've never been able to get through the whole of Krull (the expansion on Supertracks). It just doesn't click with me somehow. Perhaps I should try the shorter Southern Cross album.

1977 got a reaction from Tydirium in For those who purchase lossless music online, which store(s) do you use and why?
Only option where I live is Tidal but I have never used it. Lossless downloads are just too expensive so I buy from iTunes.

What works the best for me is first trying to get used to the Original Album (when there is one), THEN going with the Expansion.

The original Krull LP contained just 6 tracks, which are, I think, tracks 1,2,3,6,7,8 from Bespin's list, and that worked pretty well. But good to know now that we didn't miss much.
It's just a James Horner score.

We have the same problem. Here's the solution:

Not sure if this warrants its own thread, so feel free to combine it with another!
During the Kennedy Center pre-concert talk, Williams just revealed that Indy 5 will begin recording this coming Tuesday morning, at 10 AM to be precise.
So exciting!

You will regret this.

For me the danger motif will always be the Willow danger motif first and foremost as that was my initial exposure to it.

Yes, the snow camp escape is for sure the biggest highlight missing.

I would call it Horner's magnum opus, even if i like other themes of his much better, but here he draws from all ages of music history (ancient folk songs, romantic period, baroque, if we count Mozart as such, modernism á la Penderecki etc.), and it all comes together.

1977 reacted to Holko in James Horner's WILLOW (1988) - NEW! 2022 2-CD Intrada Records
Oh, also, a Horner example in the similar area: Land Before Time has a few pretty bad performance edits, hard cuts between pretty different takes mid-held note or something like that. This was the first time in 30 years anyone could touch the score, it will remain the only time for decades, they had the unedited multitracks but decided to use the premixed pre-edited (sometimes badly) source anyway because it's less work.

1977 got a reaction from Jurassic Shark in I'm Starting to remaster all my Williams Videos. First : 50 years a Salute to Film Composers (Boston Pops)
Not so much. I mean he was fantastic and all but it's more the combination of his arrangements with Linda's singing that I enjoy. I do have some of his Sinatra recordings too (the Capital years stuff) but other than that I'm not too familiar with his work.

1977 got a reaction from Groovygoth666 in OBI-WAN KENOBI (Disney+ series)
Enjoyed seeing "old friends" as it were but the shakey-cam, dark cinematography, wokeness and much-discussed musical flaws have left a sour taste. Perhaps if someone edits it down to a 2 hour film with a rescore it could work.

1977 got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in What are your non-Williams film score holy grails now?
The two Ewok TV movies - expanded
Twice Upon a Time - premiere
Volunteers - premiere
MacArthur - expanded
A River Runs Through It - rejected
Year of the Comet - rejected
Goodbye, Lover - rejected
Inside Moves - premiere
Batman and Robin - premiere

That's true. Even If he thought, that Anakin would die anyway, to leave him there like that in pain, burning and suffering was rather cruel.
