I love Banning Back Home! JW wears Grusin well. Can't wait to hear the full-length version.

I finally got around to listening to this today. It's a good time! I'd only heard it in the film before. I enjoy the movie but I tend to get annoyed while watching it—the manic energy and plasticky production design start to grate. I was a little worried that the score on its own would have the same effect, but my fear was unfounded. Zero regrets on the purchase. The thing that amazes me most is the difference between "Christmas, Why Can't I Find You?" as a song and "Christmas, Why Can't I Find You?" as a theme. No offense to Cynthia Weil or young Taylor Momsen, but the lyrics and the vocal performance really don't do it for me. Then I hear the melody in an orchestra setting, and it really is genuinely sweet.

Star Wars Prequel Music Resource (part 2)

Meh, it could happen. It's more amazing to me how much did get included in the various games. -

I feel certain the beginning of End of Darth Maul was recorded. If you listen to the beginning of the material used in the film and UE, you can kinda hear a bit of the reverb tail from the previous note. To my knowledge, that's the one bit of TPM that hasn't surfaced anywhere in any form at all. -
I stand by my comments from 3 years ago. Totally case by case for me.

The movie is a bizarre mixture of things that work spectacularly and things that emphatically don't. I enjoy it and I genuinely respect it not being a retread of its superior predecessor. But I wish it wasn't so flawed. The score is also a big change of direction, but a more successful one. It sounds very different from Raiders but still gives that top-notch score a run for its money.

I don't anticipate listening to the songs quite as often as the main program, but they're definitely a huge selling point for this release and I can't wait to hear them. This seems to have all the hallmarks of a truly definitive release and I'm very, very, very much looking forward to the package's arrival!

The Phantom Menace vs. Attack of the Clones vs. Revenge of the Sith

That becomes more and more true with each passing trilogy. ANH and ESB introduce roughly the same number of themes … TPM has a more noticable edge over AOTC … and TFA introduces waaaaaaay more themes than TLJ. On the topic of AOTC, I've never been able to understand how so many JW fans are so dismissive of the score. I love it. And the OST is the only one in the prequel trilogy that doesn't jump around in the film so wildly that it becomes a distraction. -

Very cool video! Highly recommend that recording techniques book for anyone who wants to REALLY do a deep dive into this stuff. The video mentions the synths being recorded via speakers on the scoring stage. What's your source on that? I've always wondered how Williams approaches that but never really dug into it much. I assumed that was not the case. -
I don't think you'll find many firm lines in this. But I would think that relevant questions include: How much of the person's time is spent thinking about the music/composer? Are they causing financial hardship for themselves or others? How's their social life? Is there any inappropriate, creepy, or illegal behavior involved? How do they feel and behave if they are forced to focus on other things for a while? Ultimately, if you're not hurting anyone, I say go nuts. For myself, JW's work is one of a number of things I'm deeply interested in, but those interests haven't hurt me or anyone else. Sometimes I'll use the word "obsessed" to describe myself, but I think it's a healthy obsession.
