  1. Ya know, this has got to be one of the best scores to a bad film that I've heard in some time. So much so that the movie almost hurts the score, hahahah. Almost! And I know I'm DEFINITELY in the minority on this one...but I didn't like the theme of the Speeder Chase track. I was initially glad that wasn't in the movie, but given the end result, it didn't really matter. Still, it felt like there was A LOT of material missing and I look forward to listening to it!
  2. I actually went with Parents, as far as what I missed the most. Falcon Flight is great (and I actually like it more than Speeder Chase) but there was something about Parents, and the reworking of Kylo's theme, that struck me on my first listen of the FYC. It was definitely THE track I couldn't believe was omitted from the OST.
  3. I'd like to think it was the friends we made along the way. So yeah, no soundtrack.
  4. Half the reason I feel it worked last time was because it was in such a tiny, front-of-park shop - they probably didn't know or care that they were breaking street date and not making enough waves for anyone to notice. I'd assume a park that focuses on SW would be a little smarter about that. Alas, lightning did not strike twice. I checked the store I did last time, as well as a few other noteworthy areas and no dice, despite this CLEAR homage to the Death Star.
  5. My God. This is amazing, hahahah! Mission: Accepted. Heading over to Epcot now with zero expectations. After all, Last Jedi was there the day before its physical release. Still...
  6. I just tell the folks at the front gate I'm there for the new John Williams album. They understand. ...yeah, I'm a passholder. And I work at the "other" park.
  7. Hahah, don't be ridiculous. *feverishly checks park hours on Dinsey app*
  8. Can we be sure "Legalize Weed By 2020" by Netherfriends Feat. Surfboard C & Marijuana Mike is not a source track?
  9. I initially got a hit for 'Join Me' around the 30-second mark but haven't been able to replicate it. Oddly enough I get a hit for 'Farewell' if I start at the 42-second mark. As previously stated, Shazam may not have the most up-to-date info.
  10. I got 'Approaching the Throne' for the first piece after John and JJ talk. No hits for the others. Apologies if that was already known.
  11. I Shazam'd the opening track and got the same thing...and then Shazam'd the end of the same track and it lists it as 'Fanfare and Prologue'.
  12. I actually agree with this. I just want the OST to have a good presentation. That's the foundation on which we "build" the rest of the score. Usually the movie hits and then we start to figure out what was left off, and the FYC comes along and helps to fill in some of the gaps (sidenote: might be interesting to guess which FYC tracks will be on the OST and in what capacity). In that regard, I'm cool with the FYC having those short tracks and moments of underscore. Now I'm left a little worried about how the OST will turn out. Suffice it to say that while I'm happy with the FYC, I hope there's a lot on the OST that was left off of it.
  13. That's actually a really great point. Glad to hear they "brought that over" from Last Jedi.
  14. There's not a lot of context to make way for his appearance. None of the surviving characters know who he is. With that said, I have a feeling Abrams will be bringing back A LOT to try and tie this all together. If force ghosts can join in on the party on Endor, I have no doubts that they can show up here and get litty.
  15. Not a big fan of that blue hue Abrams likes to use on those First Order ships. The line delivery is also a bit weird ("I have no idea. Follow me!"). Film aside, I agree this looks like a track that would be cut from the OST. Nice to have it on the FYC.
  16. Wow. Thanks for all the insight, guys! Truly a wonderful read. While I wouldn't call myself "active" on these forums, I've always returned to them - come to read everyone's thoughts on the latest scores (especially of the maestro). While there's few people I personally know who respect Williams (let alone film music), it's always comforting to come here and read up on everyone's thoughts and stories.
  17. 3 Stars Worst 7th As others have mentioned, it's very hard to rate the score on the FYC. We simply don't know what's missing from the full presentation. For example: If the official soundtrack release is largely the same (albeit with tracks that aren't edited), I'll be disappointed. On the flip side, if the FYC contains a lot of moments not included in the OST, and the latter includes a rich presentation of the newer themes and those lovely, epic battle tracks...I'll be pleased as punch. Right now, I'm enjoying what I'm hearing with that caveat. It's my least favorite of the sequel scores ATM, but I definitely enjoy it more than AOTC and I predict I'll enjoy it more than TFA once the OST is out.
  18. Kylo Ren's Theme Rose's Theme Duel of the Fates While the Emperor's Theme gets a serious workout (even in the FYC), I was really compelled by the changes in Kylo Ren's theme in latter tracks. Sounds very tragic in nature, and while taking a "threatening" motif like that and trying to make it sound tragic would fail in lesser hands, Williams did a really great job with it. I've always enjoyed his theme but now I'm enjoying it in a new light. Of the themes listed in the second poll, I wasn't really too keen on hearing any of them return (more like, more renditions of the themes in the first poll) so I was going to go with none of the above...but I actually really do love Rose's theme. Character aside, I remember hearing that theme before the film and applying it to the Resistance as a whole. While the march is exactly that and makes for some great action music, Rose's theme was much more optimistic and sounded like something out of the Potter films. I'm not a Rose hater by any means but the character didn't live up to the theme, not by a longshot, but I'd love to hear it again in TROS. I think Duel of the Fates is a wonderful piece, but it had its time. It felt slightly out of place in ROTS and would feel ridiculously out of place in TROS to me. I'd prefer Williams write something else for the lightsaber duel(s) here, but I also have no doubts that JJ and Lucasfilm were like, "C'mon, John. Fans love that theme."
  19. While the release of the digital copy two days earlier probably doesn't require such a close eye on a physical release, the moment I hear that it MIGHT be available there, I'll drive over in a bmmm-tssss. Joke's on you though, as I live on Spaceship Earth. At the top. And nobody knows I live there. And there's a button that I can press and launch that ride into space.
  20. I remember pulling out an old external CD-ROM drive just so I could rip the soundtrack to an old laptop that WASN'T hooked up to the internet. I then shared it with a few people here, one of whom shared it on a popular "shrine" and those people were like, "...where are the tags?" There were none because I never added them. THAT was surreal, hahah. I may swing by Epcot when the time comes to pick up my copy of ROS, just for old time's sake.
  21. That was me who picked up TLJ at Epcot! And only because someone here posted that SOMEONE ELSE on another forum got it early at Epcot (which, of course, is always how these things go). I remember driving over to Epcot after work one day and getting there about 20 minutes before closing, thinking I was a complete freaking idiot...until I saw it on the shelf. That was an exciting drive home.
  22. It depends if we're talking about these two tracks standing apart from the films they stemmed from. If that's the case, Rebellion is Reborn. It's a very pleasant theme that really goes a long way in bringing forth that optimistic lift one thinks of when reshaping the future for the better of mankind. It has a wondrous quality to it that sounds almost more at home in the Potter universe than Star Wars, but I like it just for that. I also find it a little more cohesive. However, if we're talking about the implementation of those themes in their respective films, I'll have to go with Han's. Rose doesn't really embody what the former theme means to me (or is capable of), nor does it get much of a workout in the Last Jedi score. The Adventures of Han, on the other hand, feels like a track where Williams wanted to hand off as many little odds and ends to Powell as it could, so that Powell could sprinkle them throughout the Solo score, and have them grow throughout the film. Adventures has more room to grow, but as is, my vote goes to Rebellion.
  23. These are weird comparisons. John Powell is like . . . a composer who crafted a better Star Wars score than Michael Giacchino.
