  1. I enjoyed the ROTS CD very much. This may be stretching it a bit, but for me, I like that the first 3 episodes feel less obviously thematic. The music gets increasingly more chaotic as we go from EP I to II to III (the parents' movies), which reflects the loss of control in the Force as things head toward dominance of the "Dark Side". The next three EP IV, V and VI (the Luke and Leia movies) are a new "chapter", a new hope so to speak, and rely much more on leit-motif, and as a consequence feel more like the Force coming back into balance. I know this theory isn't likely the exact intention by either Lucas or Williams, but it works well for me, and allows me to enjoy the music of the series by giving the scores even more organization.
  2. Thanks Falstaft for digging into this for us. I still have a concern though. On that page, at the bottom of the description there was DEFINITELY a link to a webcast. Not a link saying "click here for webcasts of our OTHER programs." There was NO indication that this concert was only being broadcast live on the radio. The implication, (as evidenced by so many of us assuming the same thing) was that we would get to listen to JW by clicking on that link at 2:00pm. Which means to me that the JW concert was most definitely misadvertised for a webcast. If the web designer made a mistake, then we should been told. But, the above quoted "explanation" implies that no such link EVER existed on the site on that page. And had that been the case, it would have been fine. Instead of a link to webcast, there should have been a statement saying something like "Tune in to WGBH 89.7 to hear this concert live on your radio." Could there still be something fishy about this??
  3. Standard operating proceedure? Is this the first time WGBH ever did or planned a live webcast? If not, then they would have known ages ago that it was not likely to be feasible for the reasons you mention and possibly other reasons too. But if they had assumed this was okay because of some agreement with the players' union which fell thru at the last minute, then I'll accept that. If not, and they knew this couldn't happen, they should never have advertised it for webcasting. Actually, maybe the 2:00pm "pre-game show" was designed for just that purpose, just in case a contract negotiation didn't work out. Just speculation...
  4. This IS a bit messy, since all dialogue and sound effects are also part of the "sound track(s)." As long as they say what part(s) of the sound track you are buying, I have no problems.
  5. Omen II, I believe that is exactly what happened, or, it was cancelled by the company planning to release a recording of the Horn Concerto.
  6. I love all of the cues on the first half of that soundtrack (africa stuff). The rest of the tracks are just okay.
  7. I've written scores for about 5 or 6 documentaries. In working directly with the filmmakers, I can say that ALL of them, without exception have a definite point-of-view in their works. Several of these works have won major awards. Regarding Moore. In my opinion, no one film should ever be the sole basis of how you think on a given subject. Although I've yet to see this film, if it offers even a few minutes of information or suggests links between things that I was unaware of, I think it is worth it. If it sparks interest in me, I'll dig deeper on my own to try to get at the root of his suppositions. Sometimes that digging may disprove his points. This thread also provokes me to be more proactive. So now, I'll see the film, and continue (or not) from there.

  10. I attended the concert too, and definitely noticed the "trouble" with JFK and E.T. in the brass parts. Also at times it truely felt as though the orchestra was having difficulty with the material. In Star Wars, they started the piece off brilliantly, but later on around the middle of the piece (I think) there was a solid bar or two where they just seemed completely out of sync, the harmony was wrong, it was as if parts of the orchestra were missing bits of music and either ahead of or behind the score. Throughout the concert Maestro Williams, on several occasions seemed to really be trying to push the string section to give more sound, and sometimes the woodwinds and brass were giving too much sound. I think they may not have had enough time to rehearse. I did love the concert though, and according to the people sitting next to me, I was in one of the best areas of the hall for acoustics. My favorite performances that night were the Harry Potter suite and the CMIYC suite. Overall, as with other live performances, I enjoyed being able to hear some of the counterpoint and other parts that were less outstanding in the recordings.
  11. I bought Checkmate on LP about 12 years ago. I can't remember how much I paid, but I think it was in that $20 range too.
  12. I assume you mean the concert at Lincoln Center? I am going. I got my ticket last month.
  13. How about Jane Eyre and Monsignor?
  14. Hide and Seek from AI The Basket Chase from Raiders kinda has that feel in some parts too.
