I would love to hear the Maestro conducting Prokofiev's 5th symphony and some various symphonies from Shostakovich (namely his 5th,7th and 9th), for no other reason than I really like the sound JW gets from the Brass section in all his recordings. Conversely, I would also be interested in hearing him some more expressive fare, such as pieces from Debussy - especially 'Prelude on the Afternoon of a Faun'.

I like me some Tilson-thomas, Rattle, Gergiev and Dutoit for conductors. There be lots of pianists I like too, Argerich and Ashkenazy to name a couple.

Here's what happened: In the wastelands of the internet, in the Napster days (before you had to pay for anything), some goon somewhere decided to label the music in question with John Williams as conductor/composer/arranger, whatever. Who knows why he made such a decision, perhaps it was actual ignorance on the subject and thinking that all 'orchestral' music is somehow always connected to John Williams - or perhaps the only orchestral music he had ever encountered was watching JW and the Boston Pops Orchestra on PBS or something. Whatever the reason, that bad boy was passed around mislabeled just like probably 60% of the music on Napster. The amount of music I had mislabeled in those early days was unbelievable, but no one really cared about the label or performances at that time - they just wanted the music. In fact, I would say that a lot of the scores back then that were being shared were wrongly attributed to John Williams. And now here we are today, where people genuinely think that this was a possibility - all because of some lazy and inaccurate labeling.

I do like what little there is to hear of Iriana's theme - definitely some Russian-sounding hints in there. I just hope there's some big, brassy, fleshed-out Russian cues to accompany it in the actual score.

Taking my cue from the general Indiana Jones vibe going on, here's a decent .The arrangement is a bit dodgy in a couple of places, but pretty good other than that though.

You may just be hearing the web site's sound effects. True, but it does sound suspect in the higher register - even in the low quality it is. I'm just wondering if there is some repository where they get music for random promotional material such as this.

Don't think this is from KOTCS, but there definitely is a continuum-sounding instrument in the mix, at a very interesting point too. Just adds to the drama I guess, besides, it seems weird to me that they would just pluck a piece out of nowhere - especially a piece that no one can easily identify. But I was under the impression there was no choir in this score? Also, some parts also sound like Goldsmith to me.

Man that Seth McFarlane knows his SW music. But then again, he does seem to be quite the musical person, so it's no surprise he'd be a fan of the maestro's work. As for George, I'm not going to comment because it isn't nice what I have to say [who the &$*# gives a #*@! about the new Clone Wars cartoon?].

I don't watch Network TV which is infested with "Reality Programming" anymore, so I wouldn't know.

I consider myself a classical highbrow and I can tell you that I take him quite seriously as a conductor. It seems to me that he has the same great expectations and high standards from an orchestra which is playing other composer's pieces as he does his own. If anything, his experience as a composer only seems to help him to interpret other pieces to their full potential - as with any other good composer-cum-conductors. I've always liked how he accentuates and brings forward the Brass and Woodwinds in pieces that i've heard a million times, to such a point that I hear things I never heard previously (I was obsessed with Shostakovich's 'Festive Overture' a few years back, and of the many copies I listened to, Williams' recording on the 'Summon the Heroes' album was always my favorite).

Oh I agree totally, [insert name here] definitely needs more appreciation. I'm glad someone finally had the courage to make a thread about this.

Agreed - he was alright in the beginning I think, where he probably believed that music and effects could work equally hand in hand (as is evident in the OT), but somewhere along the line he started to get big-headed and think that entire sequences could work without any underscore (see the prequels).

His score to The Simpsons is definitely fun. I also like the scores that Taikomochi mentioned, in addition to The Lion King. Plus, he just seems like an altogether cool guy - very likeable and personable in the interviews he has done (and he likes and venerates JW like the rest of us).

Cool beans. I like the quip where Indy says "Comeon genius"....vintage delivery too.

Yikes, i'd hate to see the amount of spit generated from his method of playing.
