  1. It was graphically more powerful.
  2. That only started with the Wii. The GameCube was ahead of the competition at the time. The problem was the disc space, just as the 64's problem was its adherence to cartridges when the industry was going toward discs. After the colossal success of the NES and SNES, Nintendo suffered from hubris that has lingered ever since.
  3. It's because it was shot on film and used comparatively more practical effects and sets.
  4. I've gone back and forth on this, but Last Crusade might be my favorite Indy score.
  5. The tension between the adventuring pulp and the humanity of the characters is definitely there. The entirety of 4 is about that dissonance, really. But I think it resonates because the "lure" of adventure is treated almost like a drug addiction, a high that Nate yearns for but can never be satisfied by, within the context of the game as a fourth entry and an ending to the story. You kind of have to look past the extent of the mass murdering to accept Nate and Elena and the rest as characters and the ending resolves to give them adventure as well as a domestic, "normal" life. It's breaching the gap between the two halves of the series and resting on some kind of beneficial compromise. At least it did for me.
  6. Of course it is. It's the true ending to the game and the series, and a great ending at that.
  7. He's dead... ... to me. He's dead to me.
  8. There's no point in comparing them that way. They're different mediums.
  9. The SNES, man. What a frickin system.
  10. I love the B-theme to this piece, though it only appears a scant few times.
  11. I can't think of another action/adventure treasure hunting game series as good. Lara Croft is longer running but has had a checkered past. I do think it is the game equivalent of the Indy trilogy in the sense that it is the peak of its particular genre.
  12. There is less combat in 4 than in the others. But towards the end it does do the typical "game" thing and throw wave after wave of enemies at you.
  13. Uncharted 4 has been a joyous experience. Naughty Dog has to be one of the best developers in the world.
  14. Not surprising, but still a shame. It was a good little show about a really good character.
  15. I really hope they release COD4 standalone. I've fallen out with the series for several years now but I'd love to play that again. Great game
  16. You're right about handhelds, but it's a shrinking market. Smartphones are the way of the future and Nintendo has at least had the foresight to start supporting mobile platforms. Who knows if they'll do another handheld after 3DS. As far as the Wii goes, it was a huge success... initially. After the first big wave it didn't have the legs to carry out the generation because of lack of third party support, weak hardware compared to the competitors, and a motion control gimmick that was difficult to optimize. Nintendo has been suffering from various bad decisions since the 64 and they've grown exponential and compounded. Like most people I've been a fan of theirs for years and they still consistently make great first party games, which is why I wouldn't have a problem at all if they went to software-only for other consoles ala Sega.
  17. If it isn't I think this will be Nintendo's last hurrah as a hardware manufacturer, at least home consoles. They've been diminishing for many years now and they can no longer refuse to play by the rest of the industry's rules.
  18. The films have already started to fade from relevancy from what I've noticed. I have a couple friends who are massive Tolkien fans and they haven't even been bothered to see the third movie. And it can't be overstated how much they love Jackson's Rings trilogy. To me, that's the worst omen I can think of for the lasting legacy of the Hobbit movies.
  19. It's always been weird to me how much Harley Quinn, a mentally ill murderer, gets fetishized.
  20. I've never seen a company torpedo its reputation as fast and efficiently as Konami has.
  21. I played suites from Empire Strikes Back and Jurassic Park in high school orchestra. I played viola, the red headed step child of the string section.
  22. After listening to that, I'm not sure the force theme should have a concert arrangement. It's weird.
