  1. Personally, I love Jaws, E.T., and Superman-from start to finish. Sure there are moments I enjoy more than others, but those scores when listened to as a whole are astounding. If I were to make a playlist of just the "duller" bits, it wouldn't be enjoyable. But as part of the complete experience they're great and I wouldnt want them any other way. But that's just me.
  2. I plan to go on Saturday...so it would be cool to get in touch with someone from here, as I will be going alone. Where are you from?? I'll be flying in from Sacramento.
  3. For anyone who has gone to see JW at the Hollywood Bowl, what are average ticket prices? I know they would vary depending on the seat, but I'm just curious if its around the price of an average rock concert. I'm definitely planning on going, and just want to get an idea of what I'll be spending...
  4. Alright, I received the soundtrack yesterday and gave it a listen last night. It was even better than I was expecting! Sure, it won't crack my top 10, but the sound and themes were quite impressive. Although I wasn't too nuts about "Gloria" as others seem to be. (Tracks with vocals are never my favorite) And I would have never thought about The Godfather if someone else hadn't mentioned it. Thanks everyone again!
  5. Haven't you sampled it anywhere in the net beforehand my good man?And although we have some dissenting voices here asking whether to buy a John Williams score on a John Williams forum usually leads to the recommendation anyway. Ha ha, yeah-asking obvious fans of John Williams if I should get a particular score is a little silly. I was on the fence about getting it anyway, and just needed that extra push. And yes, I have heard a couple of tracks on YouTube and liked it enough, I just wanted more input from y'all. Thanks again!
  6. Ok, I've been convinced. I ordered it a few minutes ago, and look forward to hearing it soon. I was afraid everyone was going to say it was awful, but even though opinions seem to be split I can't wait to give my opinion when it arrives. Thanks everyone!
  7. What other Williams score would you say this one resembles?
  8. Can someone give me some info on the score for "Monsignor"? I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned, and just wanted to know what a common opinion of the score would be. It was made during his golden period, and understand it was nominated for a Razzie. So what's the deal??
  9. In "CE3K", during the track "Wild Signals" right near the end. In "1941", during the track "Encounters". This is only on the expanded soundtrack, and was not used in the film.
  10. Thanks for the posts everyone. I knew about most of these, but I was hoping there were more that I was unaware of. I had just bought the expanded "1941" and heard "Encounters"...which led me to starting this topic.
  11. Oh believe me, I'd rather not. But since I've gone on a Williams binge lately, getting the La La Land records 1941, Hook, Home Alone 2, The Fury, plus several others from Amazon, funds are rather limited. I've been tempted by Dracula, but not at the price (at least not now). Inferior MP3 is better than nothing (for me anyway)
  12. Ok, after very minor research I find that you are absolutely right about that. You see, I had downloaded from Youtube what I thought was the score for "Dracula", since after briefly glancing at the track listing on Amazon, it appeared to be correct. When listening to it, I heard the track we are talking about and thought, "Wow, that sounds just like in Last Crusade". Seeing the track was titled "To Castle Brunwald", I figured that was rather brilliant. Having never seen "Dracula", I just assumed "Castle Brunwald" was an actual place used in both films. The rest of the album appears to be correct...so I'm just curious to why someone would stick a track from "Last Crusade" in the middle...DUMB!
  13. That may be, but I was referring to the "Dracula" score...which has a track titled "To Castle Brunwald"...which is the same, or extremely similar, as "Last Crusade". I'm assuming Williams referenced it in "Last Crusade" since they were going to the same place.
  14. How about in "Dracula" the track "To Castle Brunwald"...nearly the same as "Last Crusade"s "Journey to Austria" (when they are heading to Castle Brunwald???
  15. Let's figure out all of the times a John Williams score references another Williams score. Example: the "Yoda" reference in "E.T." during "The Magic of Halloween". I know a few other examples, but I would like to hear others chime in. (and these would be INTENTIONAL references...not when part of a score sounds like another score)
  16. Probably the only time I would ever say "I wished I lived in Detroit."
  17. Many, many films have no soundtrack come out at the time of the film's release, and The Sugarland Express is no exception. Other Williams films such as The Long Goodbye, Cinderella Liberty, Family Plot, Midway, Black Sunday, etc also never had OSTs at the time of their film's releases. The difference is that the modern day specialty labels where able to make releases of those scores happen decades later, but they have been unable to do the same for Sugarland Express because Williams has requested it not be released for unknown reasons. Perhaps after he passes on one day, a CD release will happen. In the meantime, you can get a single track from the score conducted by Williams himself, on this great CD: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00000271M There also was a bootleg CD of the complete score a couple decades ago, though the sound quality is abysmal. There unfortunately is no legal way to get those OOP CDs right now without spending a lot of money. Your 3 options are to save up the money for the third-party prices; wait and hope for an official re-release someday; or illegally download them. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! That's pretty much what I figured. I just wasn't sure if there was some special way of getting them that only die hard fans would know about. Thanks for the help!
  18. Several tracks from "Schindler's List"... On the original release it is called "The Abduction of Barry", yes. On the Collector's Edition it is called "Barry's Kidnapping".
  19. I agree with "Aboard the Exector". The most bad ass version of "The Imperial March" imo. Also, "The Sith Spacecraft" from TPM
  20. Hey everyone, Brand new to the site...but I can tell already I'm going to love it. I'm a huge JW fan (obviously), and I have a couple questions. -What's the deal with "The Sugarland Express" soundtrack?? Is it available ANYWHERE? -What's the best way of getting a hold of some of his harder to find albums (Dracula, The Reivers etc.) I've gone to places like Amazon.com and they're quite pricy. Any suggestions?? I could probably dig deeper on the forums to find the answers...but I just wanted to do my first post. Here's a top 10 just to give you an idea of my taste: 1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. A.I. 3. Hook 4. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 5. Superman 6. Raiders of the Lost Ark 7. The Witches of Eastwick 8. Heartbeeps 9. A New Hope 10. Earthquake This list could change tomorrow...but currently these are my favorites.
