  1. I said the same, but I was just pointing out what I thought his best years so far were. I believe we are heading back to a great few years for JNH. He has done some incredible work since, but I feel that with Maleficent, and now Fantastic Beasts and the recently announced Jumanji, that he is moving back towards films where he can have a lot of fun.
  2. I wasn't excited by the other trailer, but this one. WOW! The visuals look stunning. The film looks like it'll be more enjoyable for me than TFA as well. Now I understand where Jones' character fits in. Very interesting. Looks like plenty of Ground and space battles in wonderful locations and sets, and just enough Vader too. Mesa excited nowsa.
  3. I think JNH's ultimate prime has been roughly 2000 - 2005. He wrote what I consider to be several masterpieces in that time. Dinosaur, Unbreakable, Peter Pan, Signs, The Village, King Kong. He was on fire. And we basically got what he would have done back then for a Potter film, with what he did with Peter Pan. For me, his Peter Pan score is the most magical score I've ever heard. I prefer it to all 8 Potter scores. I bloody well adore it. It's balanced perfectly between pure magic in the swashbuckling action - To the pure magic in the tender, emotion (and that music box theme is fu**ing glorious!) -
  4. I agree. I've been praising that theme for months on here. I believe it to be one of his strongest themes that he has written in years. It's a full blooded theme. You don't hear that much these days. Only maybe 10 second long themes at most. But that Huntsman theme is lengthy, and it's a strong, memorable melody. I haven't seen the film and am not interested in doing so, but I could listen to that theme all day in its many forms throughout his score. Wonderful.
  5. Reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? I made this video a few years ago (when my video-making skills were awful). Still, it gets the point across well enough.
  6. I very much doubt JNH will include any Horner. Only perhaps at the very most if Robin Williams' character and story is passively mentioned by the Rock (which is a sentence I never thought I'd say.)
  7. I agree that his action writing isn't what it used to be, but he still hasn't lost his melodic edge. His very recent main theme for The Huntsman is one of his best I think. Heard here at 1:30 to the end of the piece.
  8. For me, his Peter Pan score is his most magical, and when I met him the first time, I asked him what his most loved score is and he said Peter Pan because of the magic and heart that he felt he poured into it. It is only the first piece we've heard from Fantastic Beasts, so I'm sure the rest of the score is top notch, but it is clear that he isn't given the freedom to create such pure heart and magic that something like his Peter Pan score has. This piece for example, I just chose at random from his Peter Pan Score, and it is so beautiful, and for me, it reaches the level of wonder, magic and warmth that Williams produces.
  9. It seems to me that JNH is being held back. He only has the full freedom recently in a casual film here and there. Maleficent being the most recent film where he was seemingly let loose to do his thing. This sounds like he was given a temp score and a demand for the usual string ostinatos, which he has clearly tried to make his own, but that still sound like RCP. Sadly I think he wasn't given the freedom to do what he ultimately would have given us if it had been his choice, which was fully orchestral, like the great New York stuff of his Kong score and the pure orchestral fantasy of Water Horse and Peter Pan, etc instead of the obvious electronic beats, generic strings and a wish wash of some of his previous work. But pieces like 'Kawalski's Rag' tells me there is going to be that 30's New York sound. Not thrilled by this piece, but am liking it more with each listen and I'm hugely optimistic that the rest of the score has some gems and classic 90's/early 2000's fantasy JNH. This is the epitome of what I want from his Fantastic Beasts score - Seems like a very long score too by the looks of it. 95 minutes by my rough count. Some nice lengthy pieces. Track listing: 1. Main Titles – Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (2:54) 2. There Are Witches Among Us / The Bank / The Niffler (6:53) 3. Tina Takes Newt In / Macusa Headquarters (1:56) 4. Pie or Strudel / Escaping Queenie and Tina’s Place (3:05) 5. Credence Hands Out Leaflets (2:03) 6. Inside the Case (9:08) 7. The Erumpent (3:28) 8. In the Cells (2:10) 9. 10. JNH is Scoring the new Jumanji film. He's likely doing it because Lawrence Kasdan's son is directing. The film is likely going to be trash, but JNH is a great choice, and he excels at adventure, so maybe he can be inspired enough to give us something fun. http://filmmusicreporter.com/2016/10/06/james-newton-howard-to-score-jake-kasdans-jumanji-sequel/
  11. I bet Giacchino is sat in his writing room just laughing to himself and thinking "I haven't even written half yet and people are already buying it..."
  12. It says on the description of the vinyl that it includes two early demo pieces from JNH before he recorded the score. But strangely it doesn't say that the Vinyl is the actual full score. Bad advertising.
  13. Still confused whether this is the entire score or just 2 demo pieces. Don't want to buy it until I know.
  14. Yeah they definitely sound like demos, which makes me think it's just the demos. And the track listing only lists 2 tracks, which also supports the theory of it only being the two demos. Very strange if so.
  15. That sounds like JNH to me, definitely. Interesting that it says the Vinyl features two early recordings by JNH (not heard anywhere else). I'm guessing those will be his early ideas and suites he puts together for the film-makers. I'm confused though. Is this vinyl the entire score, including two early recordings, or is it just the two recordings? The websites make it sound like just the demos...
  16. And chocolate gateaux is only chocolate gateaux. Doesn't make it any less delicious.
  17. Yay they're remaking Empire! At least they're consistent after remaking ANH with Force Awakens. Hopefully Rey goes to train with Yoda's force ghost and faces Kylo Ren at the end who tells her that he's related to her. I can't wait for the second Starkiller base in Episode 9 as well!
  18. Since Lady in the Water, he has completely knocked it out of the park with fantasy scores. The Last Airbender, The Water Horse and Maleficent are perfection. Pure JNH fantasy brilliance. Also his two Snow White scores and Hunger Games series had some gorgeous moments and some of his strongest recent themes. Not sure whether you'd class I am Legend and Batman as fantasy, but they were great too. I expect a mix of Kong's New York sound, the pure whimsy of Water Horse, and the fun, magical flare of Maleficent.
  19. JNH's Fantastic Beasts is the most exciting for me because he is incredible at fantasy scores, but Giacchino's Rogue One is by far the most intriguing, because of the high stakes involved.
  20. Likely has been answered before somewhere, but is 5:28 the Grey Havens, Gondor Reborn, or neither?
  21. There's the obvious terror of treading water with Jaws in your headphones. But the real fear comes from listening to Across the Stars whilst looking at sand. Truly terrifying. I'd much rather stand alone in a field of crops and listen to Signs.
