  1. Agreed. I think the Vader scene is perfect, because it involves horrific things happening to soldiers we don't know. Which is exactly like war.
  2. I'm going to describe a scene alteration that may not have worked, but would have been truly chilling and shocking. Imagine if instead of just Rebels in the corridor with Vader, there was also Jyn, Cassian and Bodhi (The Imperial pilot) Here's the full idea: Jyn and Cassian both make it to the top of the tower together. Krennic appears and shoots Cassian, but it doesn't kill him. Krennic has Jyn at gun point, and the Imperial pilot, Bodhi, who escaped death earlier, is piloting the TIE fighter (From the unused trailer shot) and shoots Krennic with it, killing him. But it is too late to send the plans, because the Death Star fires, destroying the dish. Jyn grabs the plans and an injured Cassian, and they manage to get into the TIE fighter with Bodhi, and escape back to the rebel fleet. Onboard the rebel ship, Jyn and Bodhi, rush down the corridor with Cassian, helping him to walk. Jyn falls through the door as it closes. Jyn has the Death Star plans, but she wont leave Cassian and Bodhi, who are trapped along with the rebels. Vader then appears, slaughtering the rebels with ease, as Jyn desperately tries to open the door from her side, to save them. Bodhi pulls at the door but it wont open. Cassian, on the floor from his injury, now turns to look at Jyn. "Go," he tries to shout, as Vader approaches, still slaughtering rebels. Bodhi shouts "run!" as Vader cuts him down. Cassian looks up at Vader, but he doesn't even slow down, swinging his lightsaber at Cassian, and killing him. The door opens and Jyn runs to the ship with the plans, as Vader pursues, killing the final three rebels who stand in his way. Jyn takes a few steps onboard the Tantive IV as she is violently pulled back. It's Vader. He uses the force to pull her back out of the ship towards him. Jyn intentionally drops the plans as she flies backwards. "Launch!" shouts a rebel, as the doors close and Jyn's fate is unknown. Someone then picks up the plans that Jyn let go of, and takes them to Leia.
  3. The start of 'Krennic's Aspirations,' from 0:00 - 0:22 Reminds me of the feeling of how Williams scored Anakin's tragic downfall. 3:30 - I can't remember if that moment right at the start of 'Krennic's Aspirations' had Vader in it. If it did, then it makes sense.
  4. I have also said previously that my mother had no idea Tarkin wasn't real. She knows Leia as a character far more, so she suspected something must have been done, like CGI, or makeup etc, but she had absolutely no idea Tarkin wasn't real. Personally I thought both Tarkin and Leia were flawless CGI, minus the mouths. They cannot get the mouths right yet. Mouths move randomly and unique to people, so copying and predicting someones mouth movements digitally doesn't work. The rest of the face mostly remains still. Which is why in moments where Tarkin wasn't talking, it was utterly convincing and quite scary how incredible CGI can be. Leia also looked perfect until she said "hope."
  5. I think I need to explain my position a little better, so people know where I stand when I talk about this, and any Star Wars score. I really like this score, but I'm not an idiot. I fully acknowledge that Williams' Star Wars scores are leagues ahead in quality. But that isn't the point. Not everything involves pure skill and quality in the enjoyment of something. By which I mean, I enjoy this score more than Attack of the Clones for example. Perhaps because that film is boring to me. I like Phantom Menace because I was 10 when I saw it, and the podracing and lightsaber duel is great. There are zero highlights for me in Clones, and so my enjoyment of the music is unfortunately lowered with the film quality. I know it's high quality music, but my enjoyment of it is lower than the music that accompanies Rogue One for example, because I absolutely loved Rogue One. To me it's the best SW film since the original trilogy. But there is a difference between thinking a score is better quality wise, and liking a score better. I could like Rogue One score more than Force Awakens, but know it isn't better in quality. I don't actually think that though btw. I enjoy Force Awakens music better so far. But the film has a huge influence for me on how much I 'enjoy' its score. I liked the Rogue One film far more than I liked Force Awakens. And I really enjoy Giacchino's score, but while I may like it equally as much as I do some of Williams SW scores, I know that it isn't of the same quality.
  6. My top 3 would be; JNH Arnold Velazquez And I'd rather have a terminator go back in time to kill Williams' mother, so he is never born, than have Zimmer do a Star Wars film. He fits Star Wars as much as I fit into my fictional daughters ballet shoes.
  7. I would have preferred Fernando Velazquez getting a shot, considering his brilliant collaborations with J.A. Bayona. But I approve of this for musical continuity.
  8. It's not a thicker skin we need. I can take a few knocks from people who don't like something I like, but when it's the same people relentlessly dedicating their lives to commenting unnecessary hatred all over every Giacchino thread, it's just mentally draining to find the actual discussions and not just another insult.
  9. Okay, I don't agree, but that's fine. My point is that as a fan of Giacchino and his work on Rogue One, I am tired of discussing how much some of you don't like Giacchino's work for the 50th time this week, instead of discussing aspects of the score, which I'd like to do, that's all.
  10. It's tiring to scroll through the incessant complaining on these threads. If I don't like something, I sometimes express it on here, but never personally insult a composer over it. That's just sad. There is an unwritten agreement that if you hate something, then you leave the people who do like it, to discuss it amongst themselves, and not jump in every 5 minutes to tell everyone that what they're talking about it shite because it's terrible. I don't particularly like Zimmer, and think he's pretty bad 70% of the time, but instead of going on Zimmer threads to insult him and his work, I instead focus my time on threads that concern subjects I do like.
  11. I've noticed a repeating phrase that occurs in a few tracks: 'Jedha Arrival' at 1:03 'Cargo Shuttle SW-0608' at 3:04, which is more developed.
  12. Really loving 'Project Stardust,' some of Giacchino's best action stuff from the score. If you're referring to 1:20, that's his new Imperial theme, not Krennic's.
  13. Maybe he actually cared about the sanctity of Williams' thematic development throughout the original trilogy, and didn't want to plaster the film with Leia, Force theme, Rebel fanfare, Imperial March, Luke's theme, before Williams masterfully introduces them for the next film. Oh and he perhaps also wanted to write his own stuff, and not copy and paste. Otherwise what's the point of even showing up? If people want to hear lots of old theme statements, then I could suggest a few films that they are in abundance.
  14. I'm loving this piece more and more. Like the quiet and understated Death Star motif at 0:45. And from 1:20 - 1:55 is basically the most Imperial 35 seconds of music in Star Wars history. We get Imperial rhythms, followed by Vader's motif, followed by Giacchino's new Krennic theme, and his new Imperial theme, then the Death Star motif, all in that little section. Jam packed full of Imperial goodness.
  15. I really love the piece 'Hope,' as it reminds me of Williams Episode 3 approach, and of course specifically where Giacchino clearly wanted to emulate the feeling of this similar scene, especially 1:10 onward -
  16. JNH all the way. He doesn't need to prove anything, and he'll just have fun. He utterly nailed Fantastic Beasts and proved he can take over from a Williams foundation with ease. I've recently finished another one of my favourite 'pointless, yet fun to do' videos, where I theorise what it would have been like for a composer to score something they didn't actually do. I made a 'What if James Newton Howard scored Star Wars' video, with Force Awakens footage. I'll post it on here tomorrow. And remember, the last two videos I made years ago, actually came true; 'What if JNH scored Potter,' and he did Beasts, and 'What if Giacchino scored Star Wars,' and he did Rogue One. My power is immeasurable.
  17. I think if the Rogue One title card had to be there, then it should have had Jyn's theme over it, for example 1:50 - 2:15 in 'Rebellions are built on Hope,' would have been great over the title card.
  18. Horrible editing by the uploader, so much missed and cut.
  19. I bet Tarkin's retarded younger brother, Gherkin, was at the targeting system again!
  20. Question: When the Death Star fired on the Imperial archive base, did it miss? I know they wanted to destroy their own base to stop the rebels getting the plans, and also a kind of personal bitch fight between Tarkin and Krennic, where Tarkin naturally knew he was there and wanted him dead so he has no competition for 'Commander of the Death Star,' but did the Death Star really miss its target? Or did Tarkin and the crew think that it would look prettier being destroyed with a blast wave of water?
  21. I'm sure Giacchino would have loved to cameo, but was brought on after filming was done of course. They should have green-screened him in as a Rebel pilot. Giacchino: "You need a better pilot than me for this mission." Rebel Commander: "I know, but they're all dead!"
  22. That scene was one of the best scenes the saga has produced. Chilling, relentless, unapologetic, and after nearly 40 years, it made everyone remember just how evil and powerful he is. All these years, people have said Vader is so cool, I bloody love Vader!, but that scene for me, actually made me think, oh shit, as if I, for a moment, didn't see Vader as this cool villain, instead I saw him as a monster. That really reinvented Vader for me.
