  1. So where do you buy the score from? And is it a download you can keep? (Sorry, I never download scores. I only buy physical copies, so I genuinely don't know.)
  2. Repeated use is obviously a major factor on whether a theme is remembered. Easy to hum + repeatedly played + successful film = general audience remember. (Basically the formula of Williams success) Besides his general incredible genius of course. (But that's for us types to enjoy)
  3. That main theme from Huntsman: Winter's War is one of the best themes he's ever written in my opinion. It is developed brilliantly throughout the score; particularly with its length. It's a real long-form melody that goes on and on with rich direction. Like a classic theme of old. It reminded me of my thoughts on Giacchino's Yorktown theme. A gorgeous, long-form theme that sings in the score. A classic theme. I do like that JNH has scored films directly associated or indirectly with Williams works, e.g. Potter and Beasts, and I believe JNH's first Fantastic Beasts score sits comfortably with Williams three Potters in quality and thematic writing. As for Peter Pan in comparison to Williams Hook, for me, JNH's is the superior Peter Pan score.
  4. I truly believe that if JNH's films were as commercially successful as Williams' films were, he'd be similarly known and celebrated the world over. In my opinion, he has created works on the level of Williams' best, but Williams has (of course been a god of composing) but also a part of some huge cinematic firsts, like Jaws (first real blockbuster) Star Wars (first space fantasy film of its kind) Superman (first major Superhero film) Jurassic Park (first major use of creature CGI) etc etc. In my opinion, JNH's Signs score is as masterful as Williams' Jaws, his Village score is as masterful as Schindler's List, his King Kong score is as masterful as many of Williams' action adventure scores, his Dinosaur, Treasure Planet, Maleficent Scores are as masterful as Williams' Star Wars, Superman etc. Personally, I think his Unbreakable score is the best Superhero score ever written. (And the film the best of its genre too). I know many here will be calling me blasphemous for my comparisons to Williams, but that's what I believe.
  5. I hope Colbert knows some stuff above the layman, because I cringe when Composers are in interviews with normal interview folk. They always say the classic stuff like 'what's your favourite song you've done?' And you can feel the Composers internally screaming.
  6. I reported myself for my disgusting attitude. It's why I've also removed all mirrors from my house.
  7. I thought 4 did a great job bringing back the original cast to be the older 'legacy' characters that the younger generation revered. Then 5 did it again, but with more forgettable teens. And the killer attacking people was worse than ever. By that I mean that the characters just did everything they could to die. No one did anything smart or even remotely common sense. That has always been a problem with slashers, and Scream does literally comment on it in a meta sense, but it was ridiculous in 5 to the point of taking me out of the film.
  8. Looking forward to this new one, mainly because I've been a fan since the start, but also because of the FINALLY a new setting with a different take. I like 1, 2 and 3 (1 being great, 2 being good and 3 being okay) 4 was surprisingly good too. The meta elements were fantastic, and the overall set-pieces were fun. 5 is an absolute dumpster-fire. Bad in pretty much every way. I was so excited to see it as a fan, and boy did it disappoint. But still excited for 6.
  9. I'll just go to the cinema in 13 year gaps for Avatar. 🤣 Though, I could see John Wick 4, Fast and Furious 10, Scream 6... Good god originality is dead.
  10. I think it's a good idea to keep the event films exclusively to the cinema, but I would love to see a tv series with a smaller subject, like the 13 year gap between 1 and 2, and what would be very interesting is a series set on earth. It would be far easier and cheaper to make with a fully human cast, and it'll give us a chance to see what earth is like.
  11. I stopped watching MCU movies after Endgame. It felt like continuing it was purely for money and not also for someone who wants to tell a story. But recently I decided to see if they were doing anything interesting, and not to just purely judge the 'post-Endgame' MCU as filler. I enjoyed No Way Home. But that was unfortunately it. I made it 20 minutes into Eternals and gave up, then I tried Thor 4 but only made it half way through. And I'm sat at home watching it on Disney+ yet I just couldn't watch them. I haven't even tried the others in phase 4. I have officially given up on Marvel, and perhaps this wider world of superheroland. The announcements of Gunn's DCU fell utterly flat for me too. It's a shame, but I do hope others who still enjoy these films, continue to get what it is that makes them enjoy them.
  12. Ant Man is dropping like a damn rock at the box office. Huge drops day to day. The audience has spoken already. When it comes to a huge cinematic experience, people want things like Avatar and Top Gun; both highly artistic with a passionate film-making vision, not an assembly-line corporate 'product.'
  13. Happy for Bear. He's such a great guy. Also happy for Franglen. There are so many pieces from his Avatar Score that I would name composition of the year.
  14. I enjoyed Sam Worthington's performances in both films. He nailed the feel of the character in the first film; a naive, single-minded and directionless man, who had nothing to really live for, yet had strong morals. I think it helped by this being a make-or-break role for him, as he was a struggling actor, unemployed and living in his car, so to be thrown into a mammoth film of such scope and unknown success, with a lot of risk, really mirrored his character's own journey in the film, with the kind of wide-eyed, deer in headlights type performance, where both Sam and Jake had no idea what they were doing, and had to learn on the fly. Also his performance in the Way of Water feels very grounded in reality, which it is, as he started a family and they had children between both films, so he mirrored his character yet again and could relate completely to Jake's life. I like how Sam and Zoe both joke in interviews about starting families between the two films, and how it was method acting that Cameron insisted on.
  15. From seeing so much of the raw footage of her performance as Neytiri, she is sensational. I would happily watch the entire of Avatar and the Way of Water in its complete raw form of only performance capture footage. The performances, specifically Zoe's, are enthralling enough on their own. It'll be like watching a great stage play production.
  16. That's a good idea yeah, especially with the additional human character casting. And I think that Selfridge will be back too in some capacity. I'm very much interested in the earth angle. I can't remember where I heard it, but I think John Landau teased a return to earth in the 4th film, so that may fit into your theory of exploring earth dying nature-wise, and the mass exodus.
  17. Considering Cameron said that he moved a plot thread from the first act of The Way of Water, to the 1st act of the 4th film, I believe we could be getting a flashback to the larger arrival of the RDA, and the 1 year time jump he did. Perhaps an exploration of the comic book canon that Cameron wrote a treatment for, where the RDA offer the humans amnesty that chose to stay on Pandora, in exchange for them turning in Sully and his group. Also Jake blew up the Mines and refinery for the Unobtanium when the RDA refused to leave. Could be a cool flashback and more info on the missing year that Cameron jumped past.
  18. ooooo LOTR extended cinema release would be great. Hope I can find a showing somewhere one day. YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ALIENS!!!? haha damn. I like and appreciate Ridley's Alien, and it has to be seen to truly understand Ripley's point of view and experiences in Aliens, but Alien isn't my thing. That kind of horror is not my cup of tea. Aliens' horror is more sci-fi action based, like Starship Troopers, so it's far more my taste. But yeah you have to see them. Alien is a masterpiece of terror, and Aliens is a masterpiece of horror action.
  19. Totally agree! True masterpiece films that really show the art of filmmaking in all its glory should be shown in cinemas with random uprades here and there. Next month I got tickets for Aliens in the cinema for a one night only showing (One of my all-time favourite films and in my opinion, one of the best films ever made. And a damn Cameron film too of course haha he's pretty good it seems). After seeing the flawless 3D in Titanic, I would LOVE a similar treatment of Aliens. Can you imagine a 4K 3D remaster of Aliens!? All those hallway scenes and the bloody alien queen in Cameron quality 3D!
