Like you say, emotional mystery is such a good description of JNH, specifically his string writing. It always has feeling behind it, but sounds otherworldly.

Air Raid Drill remains one of my favourite action cues from the series! The way he uses the emotional theme in the action is brilliant! President Snow’s theme is also great, really hope that it gets used in the new score!

That cue does indeed sound rather promising. Definitely goes with my belief that when he and similar composers write modern, boring action music, it's because they've been instructed to.

Now that’s the JNH that I love.
It’s not just emotional writing, but there is a hint of ‘fantasy/mystery’ quality in it. That two combination is what I think to be the JNH’s staple that we all fond of.

The action music sounds more organic than the previous entry. It sounds like King Kong. Can’t wait again

I also noticed that this theme appears a couple of times across the album, mostly in subdued piano variations:

but I don't know what is meant to represent. Perhaps a theme for the main character?

For those interested, I did a small suite of the main theme of the show, using the tracks Model City Duet, A Promise and then the climatic Sea of Flames. It's a really beautiful theme that appears only a couple of times through the show, plus the appearances in the Main Titles, but which makes a big emotional impact thanks to Howard's beautiful rendering of the theme, mainly for piano and violin. Enjoy!

I'm also excited for this especially that it will be more orchestral than electronic. Great autumn for JNH fans with Night After Night, All the Light and soon a new Hunger Games score.

I wanted to be right next to the orchestra so I could just watch them. Everyone around me had their necks twisted looking up at the screen from a horrible angle. I'm not kidding when I say that the only times I looked at the screen were when they stopped playing music for a few seconds here and there haha. I always think that if I wanted to watch the film, I'd do it at home. I'm there for the orchestra.
 
 

I will buy this CD just to support Franglen and because it was way better than any of us expected it to be. It deserves to be on the shelf.
 
One of the best surprises of recent years is just how good this score is.

Really hope the 4CD release happens!!

This is still probably the only score I listen to from last year - it has actual melodies, grand overarching narrative etc. A real score. It is a score that tells a story you can hear by listening to the music. A lot of the Balfe etc nonsense does the job of being sound effects that accompany a film, but they do not tell a story like Franglen's work does here,

Wow! Judging by the samples, this sounds like the JNH score I've been waiting all my life to hear! Echoes of The Postman, Batman Begins and Defiance and all the emotional string writing only he can do. 
 
And at 1h43 minutes of music, I'm hopeful all the major highlights are in there.
 
Speaking of which, the album does have a few tracks credited to both JNH and Parsons. I'm happy he has been crediting his assistants as of late.

Seeing violinist James Ehnes’ name on one track makes me happy! Hope there will be a lot of violin solos in the score!

I’m relistening to the complete King Kong score right now and damn it is such a banger. The Skull Island theme is incredible.

It's exciting to find out where Franglen's career will go now. He is clearly intending to score all of Avatar, but I wonder what other opportunities he will get. He's another champion of melody and dedicated to developing themes throughout, so I hope he gets some great projects.
