  1. Oh, wait. I may be confusing the two. I still don't really like either, though ROTS is my #4 SW score.
  2. Of course I'm rooting for Williams. A double win is a distant possibility, but a possibility nonetheless. Not exactly the same, but they gave Morricone the statue for The Hateful Eight, which was by far not his best. We all know The Mission was. Worst snub of all time, in my view.
  3. No huge agenda, but I feel that ideology was allowed to propel story and characters, rather than having all organically grow together. Seldom good filmmaking when that happens, no matter what the underlying motivations are.
  4. Great deal of craft, I'll admit. But, I too never latched on to the piece. Too much in Carmina Burana territory.
  5. Well, all art and artists have their flaws. Separate the chaff from the wheat, but don't ignore either.
  6. To me, that's the definition of brilliant. If done right, of course.
  7. They are among the most dense. But humans are dense. Just look at history. The best art and cinema seeks to make sense of the void.
  8. Not so, my friend. They may not be the most through-composed scores, and yes, he was somewhat repeating himself, but I think Rota's approach to the films is classic. The music never really overwhelms the already heavy films, yet adds to them in a crucial way. Adds a balance of humanity, if you will.
  9. That is just about right. As movies, both are pretty lackluster to me. TFA follows the Star Wars template, which makes it repetitive, but still better than the incoherent mess that is TLJ.
  10. Not really. It seems he connected with the project on a personal level more so than on his other two scores. I think the music shows this. Dear Basketball and Markings are his best works of 2017.
  11. Music like Rozsa's, though, could be a way to bridge the gap, or so you would think, between the Romantics and more challenging Moderns. But the unfair stigma of film composing still remains.
  12. Don't know. I thought it was big around here. I like Jurassic Park, though. Early 90s Williams is dear to my heart.
  13. Horner's Krull. Ride of the Firemares. @Matt C mentioned it a few days back. A top track, superbly structured. The score's love theme is also fantastic, exquisitely orchestrated.
  14. I hate the cover. Makes Williams into some sort of cheesy kids music composer, really. They could have done something classier, while still expressing Williams's cultural importance.
  15. Ice Dancing is a separate event from figure skating. No jumps or other more complex elements. Skating is, at its best, rather like ballet on ice.
  16. True. One of the best Bonds period.
  17. Beautiful and transporting from the very first chord. A sound world like no other. Without a doubt a true master with the strings. The question to be asked is why Rozsa's concert works are not widely celebrated or performed by the great orchestras. A pity, really.
