This is an awesome project. The ET track sounds nice. I love interesting new arrangements of JW music.

Warner Classics will release John Williams Reimagined, a new album featuring music by the Academy Award-winning composer arranged for chamber trio of flute, cello, and piano. The 2-CD set is produced by Robert Townson and the music is performed by flutist Sara Andon, cellist Cécilia Tsan, and pianist Simone Pedroni. The album covers Williams’ career from his early Emmy Award-winning score for the 1970 television film Jane Eyre to the main theme of 2022’s The Fabelmans, and includes such titles as Star Wars, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Jurassic Park, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Hook, The Accidental Tourist, The Witches of Eastwick, Dracula, The Sugarland Express, The Patriot and War Horse. A first track (Over the Moon from E.T. I like the orchestrations and the mood/atmosphere of the piece. I think it makes use of a sax for a good bit. But the melody itself is a little too repetitive and kind of goes nowhere, not a lot of melodic development. In terms of a femme fatale golden age theme, I think Helena's theme is far better.

I'd love to hear pieces based on the seven note melodies that Williams prefered over the five-note CE3k signal! I'd heard the story before, but it just struck how many unused precious gems could be found on scraps of paper in Williams' office and in linen cupboards in his home.

But it's fascinating to know of Spielberg's influence regarding musical decisions: combining and using the two Indy melodies. the preference for Remembrances and Schindler's List theme as the score's main theme, and keeping the CE3K signal to five notes. And Spielberg urging Williams to conduct the ET finale without looking at the footage. There must be so many other examples - decisions from every score I'm sure - where one influenced/nudged the other to achieve the results we all know and love. All without ever having an argument. I think they must have the most trusting and respectful relationship between two humans in the history of the world!

I'll love the upcoming doc and book - that's just a given, but I would really love to be able to learn of more similar examples.

I started the TV series yesterday. I just realized that the series is set thousands of years before the events of LOTR, as Sauron hadn't forged the rings yet. From now on, Mr. Bear's music seems very appropriate, and its praise seems well deserved.

I mean, its not unusual for musical works to appear in cut forms, often sanctioned by the composer, including dropping movements from symphonic works, redacting scenes from operas, etc... that's ostensibly what the OST is, with the added perk that the OST gives us alternates that we wouldn't otherwise have.

How is this for irony?  With the original Star Wars, JW thinks he is scoring a B-movie that might make for nice lazy Sunday afternoon movie.  Then, with the last one, he scores just that movie.

I would definitely add some pieces by Shiro Sagisu, perhaps most well known for composing all the Neon Genesis Evangelion episodes and movies. He also did a great job with Shin Godzilla.
