  1. My Mission Impossible: Fallout review. https://dailyuv.com/profile/2232/964668
  2. Mission Impossible Fallout - Plotwise it's probably a bit confusing, but I don't go to these films for integral plots, I go to them for the action, and this one delivers. It's very entertaining from start to finish, and to see Cruise in his 50's still doing his own stunts is just amazing. Dude's a real pro. The few fights in this film in particular are quite excellent, and terrifically choreography, as well - 8 / 10
  3. My review of Won't You Be My Neighbor. https://dailyuv.com/feed/964045?location=norwich-vt
  4. My review of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again - https://dailyuv.com/feed/964033?location=norwich-vt
  5. Won't You Be My Neighbor - Fantastic. Wonderful tribute to a great individual who always tried to have a positive outlook on life. I learned a lot more about Fred Rogers after seeing the film, and I got so emotional and teary-eyed throughout. Easily top five of the year material. - 10
  6. Streep isn't in it much of it. Her character is dead at the beginning of the film. I thought it was what the first film wanted to be, but failed at. The dance choreography, the humor, and even the singing all felt improved. Heck they manage to use Brosnan's bad singing voice better and more appropriate. My cinema experience was also great, sans for some kid next to me who seemed to be hitting my seat at points. I just really enjoyed the film, and found it to be a nice surprise.
  7. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again - As someone who despised the first Mamma Mia, I'm in shock, but I absolutely adored this. I think it helps that they decided to go all out on the "craziness" (the film is actually really funny), and a had better film director this time around. This was hugely entertaining, and I dug the musical numbers more, especially the Waterloo bit, which is my favorite Abba song. - 7.5 / 10
  8. Awesome news. I believe this is Bear's first major big budgeted film.
  9. Definitely recommend. You can see why Hawks is so well-regarded by filmmakers such as Spielberg, and the black and white helps the film tremendously. Cary Grant was also one of the greats, and Jean Arthur's performance is terrific, one of those roles where you really wanna see everything else the actor has done. The first forty minutes alone feel more satisfying and authentic then a lot of films.
  10. Only Angels Have Wings - This is probably about as well-constructed and as well-paced as a film can get, terrific performances, and it definitely has that terrific old-timey Hollywood feel. Definitely a film I'll be returning to again. - 9 / 10
  11. It's okay, at least you finally replied. Fantastic episode, probably my favorite. Helps that I'm a big fan of The Twilight Zone, and also the larger discussion of the scores themselves (of course). Love a lot of Goldsmith's work on the series too. Such abstract varied scoring per episode. It should be noted that the series wasn't a huge hit out of the gate, but had great reviews, and did respectable ratings for the time. It later properly became considered a groundbreaking classic, and rightfully so. Such great scoring too. The Four of Us Dying is not one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes, I consider it a bit weak, but after listening to the music of it, which features a lot of good distorted sneaky sounding jazz, I really wanted to listen to a lot of Goldsmith's jazz scores again. He really knows how to use trumpets effectively. The Big Tall Wish is actually more interesting as a score and an episode. Maybe the most sentimental Twilight Zone episode, but it works for me. Bolie's theme is really memorable, and Goldsmith does interesting variations of it within the context of the episode. Can't wait till you guys to get my favorite Twilight Zone Goldsmith episode (both score and episode), The Invaders, which is also his last episode for the series. The way he uses the violin in that episode is downright creepy, and the fact that there isn't much dialogue in the episode means that the music is especially vital to creating mood. I think there's a lot to talk about there.
  12. My review of Sorry to Bother You. https://dailyuv.com/feed/963457?location=sharon-vt
  13. Sorry to Bother You - Ambitiously strong satire about capitalism and corruption, set in the near future. Lakeith Stanfield is a great lead, and the film is really funny, and witty. Unfortunately it falls apart at the end, when it gets too heavy in its message. That being said, it overall is a very confidently made film, and for a first feature Boots Riley shows a lot of promise. It also gets really crazy, which I admire. Good stuff. - 7.5 / 10
  14. The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter - Really offbeat "black comedy" of sorts, set in and around North Carolina. Not sure I really enjoyed it, but I did like the father / son relationship, and Josh Brolin is great (though I'm definitely feeling a bit Brolin overload this year), I guess I appreciated it for what it is was, even if in all honesty it only got some laughs out of me. - 6 / 10
  15. Set it Up - Solid Netflix original film (rare for me to say that). It's actually pretty funny, and entertaining. Also between this and Everybody Wants Some, Glen Powell is becoming one of my favorite of the current "young actors". He's really good. - 7 / 10
  16. My review of Ant-Man and The Wasp. https://dailyuv.com/feed/962980?location=norwich-vt
  17. The Hellstrom Chronicles by Lalo Schifrin Revolution by John Corigliano
  18. Ant-Man and The Wasp - Lots of fun. It's a good "breather" film between Infinity War and Avengers 4. I laughed a lot (Michael Pena in particular was a riot). Also I was surprised by how good of an antagonist Ghost was. The action was really solid too. - 8 / 10
  19. The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada - Great modern day western dealing with betrayal, redemption, and friendship. Tommy Lee Jones is subtly terrific in the lead role, and as the film and The Homesman proves, he's a solid filmmaker, especially when it comes to depicting the west. - 8 / 10
  20. You know, I actually wrote on a "basic story level", which makes more sense, but ha. In the case of FK, the script wasn't good at all, but there were some legit thrilling sequences and I had a good time in the theater, that it didn't bother me as much, so I was more forgiving of its flaws.
