That's not the main theme, that's one brief moment in the score (for Karate Kid) and the actual main theme has far more in common with "I See You" / "Becoming One of The People / Becoming One With Neytiri" from Avatar. Honestly today I was listening to a bit of GLORY, and with all of this Spider-Man talk, I heard the 'Call To Arms' motif and started singing along: 'Spi-der-man' (Blow The Horn) 'Spi-der-man' (Play The Fife) - though the last word is a different note and then it goes in a different direction. I'll not be able to un-hear that now!
  2. I have to ask: how are the main themes from Amazing Spider-Man and Karate Kid similar? I find nothing similar about them. Karate Kid and the “I See You” melody from Avatar, sure.

  5. That's fair, however Zimmer's theme is so close to Horner's it's like he tried to sound like that without actually just using it. Like an imitation. That's what annoys me about Zimmer's theme the most. It's like Webb said "use James' theme, but don't use James' theme you get me?" I think that film nails Spider-Man himself. Garfield is fire as Spider-Man. It's like they did him justice, perfected everything, but took a shit on everything else by either half-assing the rest (Electro), or just...what the hell was Dane DeHaan supposed to do with that turd of a character? And then there's Gwen at the end. Her and Peter made a great pair and a great team and then she bumped her head. Time for the dog poop bags.

When it comes to Zimmer's TASM 2, I'd have swallowed all of it - the rap chanting voices, the dubstep, the relentlessness of the music always playing with a rhythm and rarely calming down....if Zimmer had just used Horner's melody for Spider-Man instead of that sound-alike Copland / Network News trumpet thing. Keep everything else, but use the Horner theme, even if it's just the first 5 notes of it as a calling card like the 3 Zimmer did.
  7. Those credits were pulled from the non-specific album notes. Nick Vestuto as "lyricist" is a bit silly, because in the album notes he's credited as coming up with the dialogue-filled radio edit of "My Heart Will Go On". 'Conceived by Nick Vestuto'. Lament has no lyrics, so adding in Will Jennings (the lyricist who wrote the song lyrics) makes no sense, just as with Jack Dawson's Luck.

  10. The manuscripts used to make the Omni book do contain Horner's original version of the piece, so it was available to engrave. Could've been a contractual or an editorial choice not to include it. Either way, it's something Omni could, in theory, sell down the road as a digital exclusive. That one sample of the "Battle" alone on the LLL site establishes a clear set up for that original version of Fort Wagner he was going for.

  14. You're not far off. Bom Bim Bim Bom Bi-De Bim Bom Bim (bass choir) Repeated in different keys as the music moves along, from bars 1 to 27. Tenor and boy's choir do "oh" and "ah" for their vocals and those are pretty much the lyrics (so to speak) for the open. The remaining lyrics (in the main title "A Call to Arms") and the end credits are: "Blow The Horn Play The Fife Beat The Drum So Slow-ly Blow The Horn Play The Fife Make The Drum-Ming Low-ly" (don't forget enunciation!)
  15. I'd want to say Courage, really because of the Star Trek fanfare which is like the opening of the 007 theme. Those few notes are a signature. It hasn't really provided the entirety of the franchise with an established sound, though. For numbers it's easily Dennis McCarthy, but when I think Star Trek music in general, I associate it with Goldsmith more than anyone else but I'm not familiar with the original series music to form any opinion on that aspect of the franchise.

Also unreleased: The Darkest Day is similar in that some of the choir is dialed out in the film (rather, it's dialed in for the shot of the destroyer over New York reaching so far it fades into the horizon) The cue Alien Ship Powers Up is cut in half in the film, its opening replaced with a section of the End Titles, but what's intact ("you really think you can do all that bullshit you just said?") is a version without the choir. There are two versions of the cue Rescue (on the LLL as Target Remains / Rescue, it's the softer music for David / Connie and then Hiller taking the chopper to fly away), one where the ending string rhythm that leads to the closing brass fanfare, is muddled a bit in the performance. One of the boots, can't recall which, has the cleaner performance. There's also a cue of a basic snare drum pattern for when Hiller arrives at Area 51 with the alien, exciting Dr. Soong...I mean Dr. Okun, and the one thing I wish the LLL had, which was the pounding snare drums that open the cue Victory (titled 'Independence Day' on the various boots) It's my favorite film score, and the one that made me a fan of film music's magic.
