  3. Alex Ross has a new piece in The New Yorker about Williams' use of leitmotifs in the Star Wars saga generally and The Last Jedi in particular: A Field Guide to the Musical Leitmotifs of "Star Wars"

After seeing the movie, I'm pretty sure the "Brazil" tune in Canto Bight is actually an intentional nod dropped in at Rian Johnson's request, because as Finn and Rose are being arrested, the cops tell them they're in violation of "code 27B-stroke-6," which is a direct but fairly obscure reference to Terry Gilliam's Brazil. If I see the film a second time I'm going to see if I can spot any other nods to it.
