SingeMoisi reacted to bigjimwilson in John Williams In Tokyo - New live concert album coming May 3rd, 2024 from Deutsche Grammophon
Well. I've made it to another Friday without any big money expenditure on John Williams stuff. Thank goodness. Guess I'll just take a quick look at jwfa....... aww crap.

I'm interested in hearing the performance of The Rebellion is Reborn. I wish something from TROS would be played in concert conducted by JW.

SingeMoisi reacted to Steve in John Williams In Tokyo - New live concert album coming May 3rd, 2024 from Deutsche Grammophon
He usually conducts the marches (Superman, Raiders, Imperial) without the scores. He should know them by now

Perhaps it is too French-sounding for Deutsche Grammophon?

No ET suite on the CD - that's a crime!

SingeMoisi got a reaction from Ricard in JWFan turns 25!
Did not expect JWFAN to be almost as old as me. Happy Birthday, it's always fun to read what people think about JW music here.

SingeMoisi reacted to leeallen01 in Favorite short musical moments in Williams scores?
At 0:58 as he builds to the theme. It's just so rousing.
And I like how Giacchino references it in a similar style scene as John Carter escapes.
At 0:18 -
And they both blast straight into great renditions of their respective main themes.

SingeMoisi reacted to Damien F in Favorite short musical moments in Williams scores?
I always loved the ending of On The Conveyor Belt from AOTC. Such fun action writing.

SingeMoisi reacted to JTN in Favorite short musical moments in Williams scores?
The first 12 seconds of “Betrayal at Bespin” in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is simply thrilling. To me it’s the quintessential “Star Wars-feeling”. John Williams was able to create musically the excitement of a spaceship racing through space. And then Williams beautifully makes the transition to Bespin and Han and Leia meeting their fate with Lando and Darth Vader. Brilliant cue overall.

SingeMoisi reacted to PokeDocMatt in John Williams Returns to the Hollywood Bowl, Sept. 3, 4 & 5, 2021
Gonna be there Friday night. My second time seeing the Maestro at the Hollywood Bowl. Every time I have the chance to see him, it feels like such a gift from the universe.

SingeMoisi reacted to crumbs in John Williams Returns to the Hollywood Bowl, Sept. 3, 4 & 5, 2021
Given the pandemic, these concerts are truly momentous occasions.
I can't understand why they wouldn't record and broadcast these for everyone to enjoy, especially with half the world stuck in lockdowns and orchestras struggling to regain normality.

SingeMoisi reacted to Josh500 in J.K. Rowling didn't like JW because the music didn't sound English enough? Fact or fiction?
Not sure whether Rowling said it or not (somehow I doubt it), but that's definitely true.
Tchaikovsky was a major influence on Williams. That's common knowledge.

SingeMoisi reacted to Raiders of the SoundtrArk in J.K. Rowling didn't like JW because the music didn't sound English enough? Fact or fiction?
Then I would say that your major issue is David Yates.
I've never understand how he did succeed to stay here for so long especially after the last Fantastic Beasts

SingeMoisi reacted to crumbs in J.K. Rowling didn't like JW because the music didn't sound English enough? Fact or fiction?
It's all downhill after Cuaron's masterpiece -- truly the only standout of the entire series. It stands apart as a great film above all else, not just a great Harry Potter film.
It's probably a coincidence the series went to shit after Williams departed, but I certainly don't lose sleep over the fact he never returned to bring some energy to Yates' lifeless snoozefests. His films don't deserve Williams' talent, which would be wasted on those stilted duds.
-
SingeMoisi reacted to SilverTrumpet in J.K. Rowling didn't like JW because the music didn't sound English enough? Fact or fiction?
The movies totally lost me after the fourth one...and I don't think it's JUST the lack of Williams music (book 5 was my favorite, btw).
I still don't know what "Lilly's Theme" is either. Don't bother, someone sent me a Youtube video actually called "Lilly's Theme" and I still could barely pick it out and forgot it immediately after the video was over.

SingeMoisi reacted to Raiders of the SoundtrArk in J.K. Rowling didn't like JW because the music didn't sound English enough? Fact or fiction?
Agreed. The best movies are the ones he scored

SingeMoisi reacted to Fabulin in Here is what other composers are saying about John Williams
"I think it is probably fair to say that he is the last of the greats... and I don't think that's an insult to any of our contemporary "great" composers... but in terms of classical, golden masters... he absolutely is a treasure, and every composer looks up to him. He is the master, an extraordinary lifetime of writing and an extraordinary catalogue of music that has affected generation after generation".---David Arnold, June 2021

SingeMoisi reacted to Jay in John Williams & Berliner Philharmoniker 14th/15th/16th Oct 2021
I'm kinda surprised John Williams at age 89 wants to do an international concert shortly before he has to score Indy 5 and the Fabelmans. It's very impressive.

SingeMoisi reacted to MaxTheHouseelf in John Williams & Berliner Philharmoniker 14th/15th/16th Oct 2021
John Williams conducts John Williams (Berliner Philharmoniker, John Williams conductor, Bruno Delepelaire cello)
The history of film music would be different without him: John Williams. Cinema classics like Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter are inextricably linked with his soundtracks. They have unforgettable, radiant themes, an impressive range of atmospheres and sounds and, at the same time, the always unmistakable style of the composer. John Williams makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker at these concerts. The programme includes several of his most famous scores – and of film music in general.

SingeMoisi reacted to crumbs in When you listen to Temple of Doom, do you skip “Anything Goes” ?
It's an absolutely pitch-perfect opening track for the absurd film, and score, that follows.
The entire context is contained in the song title!
Utterly unskippable.
-
SingeMoisi reacted to Thor in When you listen to Temple of Doom, do you skip “Anything Goes” ?
No, they're both part of Williams' original album program and provide both an unusual start, and a surprisingly dark turn in the musical journey about midway. Little flavours that break up the more streamlined adventure music.
-
SingeMoisi reacted to Raiders of the SoundtrArk in When you listen to Temple of Doom, do you skip “Anything Goes” ?
The only time where I skip JW tracks is when I don't have the time to listen to the whole album so no for Temple of Doom.
Anything Goes is a magical arrangement which is really a great part of the movie (this opening credit is absolutely brillant) so I can't skip this track unlike the Always' songs...
-
SingeMoisi reacted to Bellosh in When you listen to Temple of Doom, do you skip “Anything Goes” ?
Anything Goes - Never. I've always loved that opening number and scene. It sets the stage for what's to come...literally (the dancers pull the ribbons (hearts) out of the breast pockets)
Temple of Doom - Honestly....sometimes...I do enjoy it, but it's really only cause I'm eager to get to 'Short Round Escapes thru End Credits' (using the Concord release). Arguably the most enjoyable, frantic, action cue sequences JW has ever scored.
-
SingeMoisi reacted to Datameister in When you listen to Temple of Doom, do you skip “Anything Goes” ?
Hell no to both. "Anything Goes" is a weird-ass way to start an Indiana Jones movie, but it's too fun an arrangement to skip.
The Sanskrit sacrifice material is some of the scariest music JW has written and I would never dream of skipping it.
