  1. too bad about the waiting list...I had a similar experience a few years back when I was in Boston and found out Film Night at Tanglewood was on at the same time. Not surprisingly it was sold out... but I heard it live over the radio! Can't wait for the upcoming one in LA though as I'm going to that one what do you think of Goldsmith? agreed...although I haven't heard a lot of his recent output outside of the New World, and the Legend of Zorro but I think he certainly proved his worth from the 80s to mid 90s
  2. I'm thinking of seeing about going backstage or something to meet him and get a picture taken or something after the concert on the 23rd....but I doubt I'll be able to work up the nerve to do so! ....on that note does anyone know if he does that sort of thing? ...and though I'm also new here...welcome to the board Brianna
  3. Is that the one we see as the Orca sets out during the "Out to Sea" cue?...I've always like that one
  4. I play the piano and clarinet...and the recorder once when I was very young
  5. .... Wow If you're thinking of sending something yourself, you certainly should!... considering the other posts in this thread, it sounds like there's a decent chance you might get something personalized as well....either way it's cool enough to get the signed photo very cool Well, she actually doesn't know that much about JW. When replying to somebody's comment on her video, she said JW scored Ferris Bueller's Day Off. great video!.... Although the SW Main Title cue does make an appearance in that film in that hilarious scene with the parking attendants taking Cameron's dad's Ferrari out for a joy ride. It could just be that my memory's a little hazy, but isn't Star Wars mispelled as "Stars Wars" or something like that in the music credits for that film?
  6. thanks!! The question as it appears on the Conversation, slightly reworded from my own, is "In photos from recordign sessions you are nearly always wearing a black turtleneck. Why?" The answer below was (I almost regret finding out...it takes some of the mystery away! lol) "Conducting is rigorous work. Black doesn't show perspiration." The sticky note has an arrow pointing to the question and reads "You're not the first to ask, but your letter prompted me to add this question to the "conversation". Diane, assistant" that's not a joke, is it? Could you elaborate?...cool that it was actually handwritten by him though! the address I used was the one for his agency, which I found listed on the "contact" link on the main page of this site
  7. Not being a fan of spiders..I must say those are some very...educational pictures  But with regards to spider-related music, the bits of Setting the Trap from Home Alone, where Buzz's pet tarantula crawls past the camera, are kinda neat, although that cue isn't in the same tone as the others mentioned already. Still, the first one that came to mind for me was also the tarantula scene in In The Idol's Temple.
  8. I recall reading in a thread here a while ago that some fans who wrote letters to JW received personalized responses. I wrote to him last summer and the reply I got some months later included a signed photo, and the standard "Conversation with John Williams" that I believe most people get...with the exception of the answer to one of around 10 questions I had asked added onto the Conversation. Next to that answer was a sticky note from his assistant, Diane I think her name was, that said that I wasn't the first to ask and that my letter apparently prompted her to add that question and its answer to the "Conversation" (I asked why he always wears that black turtleneck ). But anyway that was as personalized as it got... but is the Conversation usually what most people get? or has anyone here ever gotten a personalized response? Being new around here I was just curious how other fans' experience differed from my own.
  9. Ah, yes I see. That would make sense. I had forgotten that it was Joe Johnston who directed.
  10. I've heard, I think from a Filmtracks review, that he was at one point attached to Jurassic Park 3....is this corroborated elsewhere?
  11. I see. So I take it this is a less common venue for Williams' concerts then? (I wouldn't know, I'm a total newb when it comes to concertgoing) We've just ended up deciding on the Lodge seats....hopefully they'll be alright....I'm just psyched to be in town at the same time JW happens to be doing a concert!! But thanks anyway for the reply
  12. soo....no one has any pertinent information? anything information or opinions would be greatly appreaciated
  13. Yes was just about to mention that as my favourite example, Williams weaves his own voice during the cue beautifully - to be precise it was Chopin though Aren't there both Chopin and Mozart pieces featured in that score/film?
  14. Don't know if this hads been mentioned yet, but the very last moments of Goldsmith's end credits cue to Poltergeist have quite an unusual turn.
  15. RIP Leonard Rosenman I was only really familiar with his work on ST IV, and the TV series, Combat!, which I always quite liked but I had also heard his work on the animated version of Lord of the Rings and Pork Chop Hill as well....sad to see another one of his generation leave us.
  16. A lot of the ones already mentioned. Another one that comes to mind, also from Empire of the Sun, is that shot of Jim walking along the rice paddies (during the "Seeing the Bomb" cue) as the supply containers are being dropped by parachute.
  17. Hi, I've been reading the boards here for a number of years now and I thought this would be as good a time as any to start posting. My family's looking into getting tickets to the upcoming concert in LA at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on March 23. It'll be the first Williams concert I've attended and I've never been to this concert hall so I'm wondering if anyone here knows which of the seats located at Row Bb, 12-15 on Orchestra Main, Row A 41-44 Lodge level, and Row N 10-13 Founders Circle, would provide the best viewpoint. As the guide maps at the site haven't been as helpful as I should like and is rather short on pictures, we haven't been able to decide, so if there's anyone here who has been there... any opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Click here to see a map of the auditorium (click on the "Seating Chart" link once there)
