This mirage is present in my mind every month it comes round and it hurts more every time that flyer drops. I know I am responsible for my own misery 😭, but the want is so strong!

He's very good at relating to his fans and the "outside world".

Personally, I think it's a great property to have. To have some sort of interaction. I would never call Zimmer my "friend", of course, nor an "acquaintance". We've met a few times, in Ghent and Krakow (over a few beers), and we've interacted a little bit on Messenger over the last 13 years, but that's it. He (barely) knows who I am, but it ends there.

Still, I felt in this particular case -- since I think it's his best score since INTERSTELLAR and since he taps into some elements of my favourite score BEYOND RANGOON -- I wanted to tell him how much I liked the score (without being fanboyish), and without really expecting any acknowledgement. When he did, that was a nice gesture, period. Nothing more, nothing less.

ymenard reacted to crumbs in THE LOST WORLD (1997) - 2023 2-CD expanded reissue from La-La Land Records now available!
Very curious to see what improvements/changes are made because the previous release is basically perfect.

Literally the only things I ever found distracting were a slight AQ differential in the newly restored section of Rescuing Sarah and a slightly mistimed performance edit in The Raptors Appear.

The rest is just wishlist material. I've always wanted the percussion only tracks since hearing the low quality recording through speakers at Universal Studios. Plus a film edit of Ripples (because it's impossible to recreate without the synth-free music stems) and maybe Corporate Choppers with that high pitched flute that's audible in the film but missing from the LLL (presumably SFX).

And it'd be cool to hear alternate takes for the entirety of The Lost World (Alternate) instead of using the same takes from the album version, sans the revised intro. Mike started doing that with Alternate tracks in recent expansions (which is smart, because why have one short section with alternate material when the entire track can use alternate takes).

And technically there's enough room to include all the OST combo tracks (like Malcolm's Journey) on disc 2 but it's nothing that can't be recreated ourselves.

Not to me. I'm glad I can't tell the difference.

No, we just don't understand why you would go through that much trouble to fix what isn't broken.

My guess is that since Sneakers leaked pretty much entirely, I would rather have stuff that we haven't had the chance to listen completely (Zorro, etc...).

Let's not forget the Disney Star Wars intro, which is a tragegy by itself for not using John's thematic material and creating a Marvelisation of the SW universe :

Warner Brothers plasters his Harry Potter score pretty much anywhere they can (compared to any music by Doyle/Hooper/Desplat).  So I guess he *is* open to the merchandising of his music.

On a similar note, I would really love to have a live concert experience where there are no movie sound dialogue/sfx, just a silent movie projected with subtitles and the orchestra playing.  Just imagine going to the concert hall, watching TESB done that way!!!

For the future of classical music, we've had our first baby steps in the past half decade with all those private companies (Cineconcerts, FilmConcertsLive, GMA, etc..) doing live-to-projection concerts.  The audience has embrassed this.

Now we even have the NY Philarmonic who is doing Herrmann's Vertigo next year.  This is another baby step.

In the future, perhaps the movie itself won't be necessary anymore, we could have a complete TESB score with only the music (no click-track situation) instead of only doing suites or smaller compositions like the Asteroid Chase.   Anyway it will be tested one day, to consider some movie soundtracks as full symphonies.
