To provide the information for anybody who doesn't know,

-The track "Hymm To The Fallen (Reprise)" is 100% identical to the track "Hymm To The Fallen"

-The track "High School Teacher" only contains the "High School Teacher" cue from 0:00-2:39 and 9:30-end.  The 2:39-9:30 section of the track contains an identical repeat of music already heard in the track "Omaha Beach" from 0:22-7:41 there.

Actually, you're completely wrong about that.  The OST is not curated, it's expanded.  It's LONGER than the amount of music that got recorded, because there are two 6+ minute stretches of music that he put on the score album twice (in identical performance and mix each time).

The original soundtrack albums contains the entire score, except for 10 seconds that were snipped out of one cue, and another cue is presented in its originally-recorded form without a 40 second insert that replaced a portion of the original cue in the final film.  But then its extended to 13+ minutes longer than its recorded length by repeating music.

It's not in chronological order at all, no, not even close.

You don't seem to understand.  Curated means taking a long thing and presenting a shorter version of it.  That's now what this is.

This is taking a complete score and repeating two different parts of it to make a longer album.

There is no cue recorded for the picture that isn't here; Every single cue recorded for the picture, is on the OST album.

In fact, there's only 50 seconds of music recorded that isn't on the OST album.  Instead of those 50 seconds, he repeated about 13 minutes worth of music.

    QUARTET RECORDS Announces

    HOLST: THE PLANETS
    Conducted by Bernard Herrmann
Music Performed by London Philharmonic Orchestra

First-ever solo CD edition of the unique, fascinating and controversial Bernard Herrmann recording of Gustav Holst’s THE PLANETS!

Quartet Records, in collaboration with Decca Classics and Universal Music Enterprises, presents a remastered CD edition of the unique, fascinating and controversial Bernard Herrmann recording of Gustav Holst’s THE PLANETS.

Recorded during his post-Hollywood period when he was based in London, it was one of several albums he conducted for Decca Records’ Phase Four series, featuring both his own music and that of other composers. THE PLANETS has always been considered something of a cursed album, yet it is loved by his fans for an interpretation that is more Herrmann than Holst.

The recording was not universally acclaimed when it was released. This was in part because several recordings of the work already on the market were considered classics, thus setting a very high bar for new entries. Some listeners, however, found the heavy tread of Herrmann’s “Mars” an actual plus, its mechanistic bombast far more threatening and imposing than the composer’s own recorded performance. Herrmann’s slow trek through the “big tune” in “Jupiter” was more widely criticized, but Herrmann was far from the only conductor who favored slower tempi in the later stages of their career—including in some of the Phase Four recordings of his own music. Nevertheless, Herrmann’s THE PLANETS sold well.

Although reissued several times on LP in the 1970s, Herrmann’s recording of THE PLANETS was only released on CD in Australia in 2011 as part of a Holst compilation on Decca Eloquence.

This new, first-ever solo CD edition has been restored and mastered by Chris Malone from the original master tapes transferred by UME in the UK, and features brilliant, extensive liner notes by classical and film music writer Frank K. DeWald alongside the original LP liner notes by renowned musicologist Harry Halbreich.

I went to the Sorcerer’s Stone concert last night and while the orchestra and film itself was really good, it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had going to a concert. It felt like at least 75% of the audience couldn’t have cared less about the actual music. Throughout the whole show people constantly pulled out their phones and recorded large sections of the film. Many of the times they were recording parts that didn’t even have music playing. What’s the point of that? Then lots of people felt the need to loudly quote every scene of certain characters. It had subtitles so it’s not that impressive. If you want to show off to your friends how much of a movie you can memorize, then you should just have a movie night at your house. The most frustrating part was at the end though. Lots of people got up and left right before the ending so I had to continuously stand up to let people pass through. As soon as the credits started, even though they stated that that’s not the end, nearly everyone stood up. Some people were leaving but most stood in the isles in front of people and talked. Because the music was louder at this point everyone had to talk extra loud over it. I’ve seen Star Wars and Jurassic Park the last couple years with the same orchestra and both those shows were completely fine. I guess maybe those attracted more music fans and this was more generic HP fans?  Anyways, they announced HP2 was coming at the end and while I’d like to see the first few movies, I’m not sure it’s worth paying for when the music is constantly disrupted.
