Ordered one too. Just paypal checkout , no account creation.

Got my confirmation. 14$ shipping so 25$ total.

Now it will rest unopened in my c.d. cabinet until it's replaced (*maybe) by an eventual expanded edition

Write a complaint to Disney and ask for a replacement copy. Then replace the jewel case of the damaged copy and sell it on ebay.

Most empty jewel cases I've found are of mediocre to bad quality. I've never been able to find empty cases of the quality the big classical music labels use, so I've started purchasing cheap Naxos boxes and cannibalise the jewel cases.

    Damn you, Disney Music Emporium!

Up until last night, my two most valuable CDs were part of my investment portfolio and I had an eye on early retirement.  Now I'll have to spend the weekend running reprojections!

I got mine in as well. *WHEW!* I was pretty frustrated that after collecting JW CDs for decades, this one would've been the ONLY film score CD I didn't have. I've paid over $100 for a rare CD before (I think 'Yes, Giorgio'? I usually get every release at the pre-order or at least 1st day or release stage, especially the limited/expanded ones so I never have to pay that), but I wasn't spending $120+ for it unless I knew for a fact that they were never going to print another one.

And I suspected since Disney never said it was limited that they'd make new batches, hence why I thought those people spending $500 - $5,000 would feel stupid. The sellers made out like bandits tho...

I wish I could be that optimistic.

If SETI made a Voyager-3 probe and put DoD on the golden disc, when it would reach Alpha Centauri in 6,000 years, the aliens could listen to it and press it onto CD and send it back to Earth, it would still be sooner and surer than how Disney works.

I know y’all could care less but I’ll bring this up:
this is the same strategy that Lionel Racing uses for their NASCAR diecasts. Pre-Order the car, if it reaches a specific number of people (couple hundred) they make the car and ship it to the pre-orders. This company also make a bunch of spares for those who didn’t pre-order.

It’s a good strategy and should be used way more often.

I don’t think the stock shortage is by design or part of Disney’s marketing plan. But it’s annoying for us consumers - and most likely for Disney as well.

But as a consumer I find it much more annoying - and a bigger problem - that this seems to be a Disney Emporium exclusive. That’s a bigger problem as that seems to be their only go-to-market strategy for this CD.

By keeping it as a DE exclusive upon its initial release Disney can basically monopolize all sales to them selves, thus increasing their gross margin by removing all middle men (retailers) that need a cut of the cake. So I think the stock issue is annoying to Disney as well.

Aside any delivery issues with stock, from a business perspective it makes sense to monopolize a product like this for a limited time just as it is released and demand for it is at its highest. Let’s just hope their business plan includes this next step: offering the product to other retailers and treat it just like any other pop culture CD - because if not, once other franchises become a priority at Disney they might stop restocking this and shift focus to selling Frozen sequel DVDs or whatever. That would mean it would go OOP for real.

You'd think the geniuses at DME might communicate with the Disney VOD department and have soundtracks available to purchase the same day a film drops on-demand.

I mean, I'm no marketing expert, but theoretically you want your products (those magical things that make a profit) available for purchase at the same time you're expecting an uptick in interest for a film.

I wonder if this started with a contracual obligation and now that each batch keeps selling out, one department is negotiating with another amongst a culture (or pressing capacity) where physical media is just for DVDs/BDs.

I'm sure I read a while back one of the labels talking about competing for pressing time in the dwindling number of plants, where the latest release from (insert major artist) totally eclipsed their capacity because they were prepared to pay more. Hence if Disney has a choice between visual media (which obviously sells) and a few thousand copies of a soundtrack, perhaps some circumstance we're not aware of is making things tricky.

Or someone at the DME is doing a terrible job and doesn't know what the hell they're doing. Don't call me an apologist yet

Yeah; I'd be pretty mad but I had always hoped DME would make more copies available and we just needed to be a bit patient.  There's still a copy on Ebay currently at $560 with 26 bids.  Whoever "wins" that auction is going to be mad as a snake when they find out...

I was fortunate to have snagged a copy in early August and am very pleased for those on this forum who missed out but are now able to get it at a reasonable price.

As far as the taxes were concerned, I had no complaints: $11.98 for the CD, $4.85 for tax and $12.29 for shipping to the UK.  I didn't incur any additional customs charges but maybe I just got lucky.

Are Disney also ready to foot the bill for all the claims for mental distress they’re going to receive as a result of this utterly batshit-crazy state of affairs?

There are dictatorships which are more open about their intentions than they’ve been.

Just got a 2nd one for a friend that is at work and didn't remember his card credentials.
So, in the end, you can buy 2 copies, just not simultaneously!
By the way, i still haven't received any "shipped" notification for the 1st one I ordered on the 21st.
edit: I checked my status (for the 1st one) and it says:
    Ships on or about: 10/18/2023

    edit 2:
Just received an email about my 2nd order:
Your order has been cancelled because we could not verify some or all of your information.

OK, as pure luck would have it, I took a last glance at JWFAN before logging off for the evening, to find a PM from Andy (thanks, Andy!), so I caught this in time. Just placed an order. I paid a whopping $32 for it (shipping was more than the actual CD, and there was a stupid $7 tax on top of that again), which is more than I've ever paid for a single CD, I think, but better than the alternative down the line.

    Hi guys, I am confused.

I caught a copy the other day along with ALADDIN Legacy Collection, to save shipping costs. The Indy info says "Ships on or about: 08/30/2023" and it's "In progress" which it's alright.

But yesterday, when all of you were saying your Indy 5 was shipped, I got an email that says it was Aladdin the one that was shipped!

If there were copies around, wouldn't be logic to place both items together? May they respect the order queue instead? Here's hoping I get my Indy 5 too!

EDITED: Also I am seeing in my credit card that the charge is lower than the quantity the order summary says. It looks like they charged Aladdin + shipping costs + taxes, but a little less of shipping costs that the total. I don't understand this, shouldn't I have the whole order paid at the moment? Is this a normal practice from Disney Music Emporioum? Did you paid the Indy 5 total order when you placed it?
