I ordered the CD and LP as soon as the preorder dropped. Then when the 1 day anniversary sale happened, I canceled that order and re-ordered to capture the discount. I do wish I had kept the original order too! But glad for what I have on the way at some point. No shipping notice yet though as I assume they will only send the complete order together in August although perhaps I am wrong and my CD order will ship tomorrow. For no other reason than very wishful thinking and with absolutely nothing to back up my idea, I am hoping there is a fairy tale developing here. Once upon a time, there is some very passionate soundtrack person behind this decision to go with the very small limited run. That person then will leverage the fact that it sold out before release of the demand for more, the outrage of the JW fans being intentionally. And from there, this saint/angel/fairy godmother will be able to convince the powers that be/evil prince/Bob Iger to allow an expanded complete release in the very near future. Like for the home video release. And we all live happily ever after. (In the sequel to this story, we get the other 4 Indy films and all 9 numbered SW films. And any Fox TV music Johnny did in the 60's we don't have.) One can dream.

Interesting. I ordered the CD and LP in June. However, I was curious, and I just checked the DME site, and saw "in stock" for the CD. And so I added a copy to the cart. However, in the shopping cart itself, there is message indicating there is not enough inventory, and the item is in fact sold out. Like, @Jay, I have received no word of the items being shipped or on the way yet.

Ah rats. (I hate rats.) I've come down with something and am not going to LA to risk the travel (or risk getting sick my 80+ year old parents who are going to the concert).

I am fairly sure Helena's Theme will be played despite JW playing that last September at the Bowl. I think it is unlikely we'll get any other Dial of Destiny music though. Maybe Marion's theme and the Raiders March. Hope I am wrong though. I do wonder if perhaps someone has cut together a package with scenes of Helena in the movie and that will be shown on the video screen while they play her theme.

In terms of "source" music cues, should we include Beethoven's 5th Symphony 1st movement as performed by Indy and Helena when they are in the cave?

One moment I really enjoyed both as cinema and musically is the shared flashback that starts from Indy’s POV on the plane and comes back as Helena’s. It’s a great bit of visual storytelling, it’s scored marvelously and give us a lot of character stuff. Probably in the script but Mangold shot it well. I also felt the editing of the Airport through to the end was quite good (but in that I might just be loving the music for the entire sequence). Overall, just came back from a my second viewing (1st was 2 weeks ago), this time with my wife. First off, she really liked the movie. She rates it way above Skull (which she rewatched this week at my suggestion to get the necessary info about Marion and Mutt) and maybe more than TLC and TOD. I could see that about TOD given that has some gruesome moments but not TLC. In any case, glad she liked it (and allowed me to drag her to a 9 am showing). Focusing on the music and after many listens of the OST this week, I am super pleased with the music in the movie. On my first viewing, I was grabbed by all the familiar motifs and themes and styles from other Indy movies and other JW movies as noted throughout this thread. But on the second viewing, I was able to hear more of the new stuff and how it weaves together. I was also surprised by how many more moments of now music there was than I remembered on the first watch. The music 100% enhances and pushes the movie forward in ways that are right for the series, and if you back to skull and see how Marion’s theme is so key after she is introduced in the movie, I think Helena’s theme followed suit. Of course, Helena is a much more action character, and her theme morphs to her actions. It’s just so well done. I do miss the NYC stuff in not being on the OST. I loved the difference of it both for the sneaking music for Helena and the CIA agents and the horse ride through the parade. It works with the time period, the fractured nature of what is going on in the story and the ability to start and stop it for the diegetic music. The end suite - I wish we had all the pieces. I know it’s basically the back half of NYC + Helena’s Theme + Prologue but I still felt something was else was in there. Could be wrong. I am ok with the way it ends sentimentally and softly. Overall, looking forward to seeing the movie again! (And getting all the music some day if I live that long or fine a dial of destiny to go forward in time and bring back the music after the copyright expires.)

But does it belong in a museum?

Just finished my third start to finish listen. Listening experiences: 1. Last night sitting at my desk with my nice desktop speakers. 2. This morning while running via the Atmos version in Apple Music but on AirPods Pro 2, so not sure how much Atmos I was really getting. Noise cancelling. 3. Was at my work desk listening on Sony headphones (wired, non-noise cancelling) - but I was working so it was not a real active listening I am finding the album a pleasurable listen in all of these situations. I really, really like the new action pieces. Airport was a standout in the theater to me and it does not disappoint on the album. In fact it is probably better than in the film (and it was well mixed for the film but still lots of sound effects). The travel pieces are really lovely. And as I did during the movie, I really like Helena's theme in all its uses (some of which are not on the album). I think JW got inspired by the character and while it fits in the movie where used, its large representation on the album reflects JW's personal taste. (There might be some amount of thinking towards the Oscars where a lot of Raiders March will seem old and the Helena's theme will seem new. That would be more of a Disney thing than a JW thing.) A good test for my enjoyment was how much I focused on the music when running, and I found that until I got to the reprise of the Helena's theme with violin that I was attentive throughout. (I have not built the playlist order of my choosing yet, so this was all OST.) Alas, my run today was 1:15 so I had to start over the album to fill the last 8 mins! I also listened on and off throughout the morning including briefly driving to work and also on my Sonos Arc 5.1 system via AppleTV. That all sounded great. I look forward to more dedicated listening like this. Overall, as an album, I am very pleased. I do agree that I want a more rousing album conclusion, and that will be filled with a rip of the end credits off the home video release (if not done sooner in some other way). (Although as pointed out, the end credits don't really end up in that manner - so again I may be back to the Berlin recording of the Raiders March.)

That's a complex question. In terms of spending money to hear John Williams music, I would posit you do not have a problem, and given the situation and common courtesy, your actions are entirely consistent with the members of this message board. (So, you have a problem, but we all have the same problem and that's ok.) But we can question a few things you may want to work into your travel planning. 1. Always expect to need to hear John Williams music. Pack at least 3 pairs of earphones in case the first 2 break. Keep a set of 3 in all your bags. Cannot have enough redundancy. 2. If you did not buy the most expensive headphones (not just overpriced) at the shop, are you really showing enough care for the Maestro's music? 3. How could you even plan to travel when a soundtrack is imminently going to release. I mean they gave us 2 weeks notice, and you didn't change your trip? And finally - why did you need headphones. Shouldn't you be playing your phone on super loud so everyone on the plane and in the airport can be uplifted with their dose of John Williams? Have a safe trip and enjoy the music!

By the way, I am still very surprised at the costs for an uncompressed digital purchase being over $15 when the physical album is less than that. I guess Disney just assumes we will stream it. Qobuz ended up at $18.09! HDTracks does not seem to have it yet. (They do a weekly 30% of coupon so maybe that will appear Friday with the score listing.) I definitely agree with this statement. I guess the PR folks that Cannes would produce advance buzz in a way that I think has largely disappeared for a movie. I queued for hours ahead of Temple of Doom and Last Crusade (and even a little bit for Raiders although I went to a 10 am showing). Now, we all generally have assigned seats and going to the movies (if we even go) becomes just part of our overly scheduled lives thanks to cell phones and voice assistants. And before anyone types that I sound like Old Indy from the original cuts of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, I assure you I am not cranky about the movie or soundtrack. As I wrote on another thread after the Premiere, I very much liked the movie. I agree with @Archive Collection that the film fits very nicely within the 5 films and dozens of hours of TV stories. And for that I am grateful. I truly look forward to seeing it a second time Friday morning with my wife (who has not seen it yet as I was only offered 1 ticket to the Hollywood screening). Having listened to the soundtrack through once uninterrupted, of course I would like more. I do miss the NY parade sequence because it is different and a nice counterpoint to the other uses of the score. I think that will be best experienced in a music track release on home video even more than a complete album will be able to handle it (due to the other music mixed in). In fact, I wonder if there is more to that cue than in the film and that is where a deluxe/complete score release will yield secrets. Like @Jay, I find the Anne-Sophie Mutter version of Helena's Theme in the wrong place. While I have not tried this yet, I think my order will be something like this: 1. ASM version of Helena's theme 2. Tracks 3-17 of the OST (until we have more) 3. Prologue (since it is the end credits representation on the film) - but ultimately it will be easy to lift the end credits from the digital release. 4. Helena's theme (concert version) 5. Raiders March from Raiders of the Lost Ark (or maybe the version from the Berlin concert since Sarah Willis plays on that and on the OST) Overall, very happy with the OST even knowing of the longer sequences we will want. I have come to appreciate the 60 mins that JW gives us. (We only got 45 for Star Wars originally and even less for Raiders and ToD!) If this is the last movie JW does, I am very pleased.

Has anyone seen the costs to purchase the album digitally? I used VPN to look at Qobuz in Europe, and the cost was €15.99 I think - and that was for CD quality. Or in other words above the CD cost for the same quality. I am hoping the US sites start to show the album in 35 mins as we pass midnight EDT.

I am not surprised to read that response as I thought that was the best moment in the film musically (of which there are a lot).

It felt to me that that all the b-roll footage from the featurette and the "music video" came from the same February scoring that was reported on JWFan. https://jwfan.com/?p=14787 In the music video, you can see ASM with that green sweater wrapped around her waist. (Time stamp 0:47 has a good view of it.) And if you look at the featurette, and despite them editing around her, ASM is visible behind JW at 0:11 (green sweater around the waist), and then at 1:05, ASM is sitting behind JW in the booth, and at 1:07 ASM is sitting in the first violin chair. So, is it possible that besides recording the ASM version of Helena's theme, ASM also sat in on the rest of the sessions that day (which might have been a pick up day)?

Yeah, I saw that too. I ignored it, and tried the cancel button above the order details. That worked, and an immediate email arrived indicating the order was cancelled. A few hours later, I got a refund email from PayPal from the order in the full amount.

Confirmed. I got an email announcing the sale this morning, and I was able to cancel my earlier preorder and re-order at the discounted prices. Less than $10 for the CD and just over $30 for the LP. I used PayPal and it went through the first time. I am impressed the sale applies to pre-orders.
