  1. It's official now. Apparently it draws inspiration from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. Henry Cavill returns, as does David S. Goyer. Nolan is an executive producer. http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/1870/5fzv.jpg Karol
  2. Star Trek Into Darkness has now opened in Australia. If you've seen it and want to discuss it, post here! If you want to discuss spoilers online from reviews or other postings of people who have seen it, do it here! The existing thread is to remain spoiler free, and can continue to be used to discuss the trailers, posters, pictures, magazine articles, showtimes, etc, leading up to when you actually see it. Enjoy!
  3. Interview with Bryan Burke TrekMovie article on it The first real official word on the next film of the franchise.
  4. I mentioned this over in the Skyfall review thread, but wanted to create a new thread for discussion as the film goes through production. Apparently, Mendes is 75% sure he'll return to direct, and is waiting for the final script to be turned in. Craig, Fiennes, Harris, and Wishaw are all signed on to reprise their respective roles. If Mendes returns, surely we'll get Deakins and Newman again as well. This has suddenly become one of my most anticipated films.
  5. http://lightsourceandimagery.com/portfolio-item/kubrick-documentary/ In association with Warner Bros., Light Source & Imagery has just completed a Stanley Kubrick documentary which will premiere in November 2012 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. This documentary is a centerpiece to the Stanley Kubrick Exhibition, which will run through May 2013. Alex
  6. This movie doesn't have its own thread, but Fox has set the original X-Men director Bryan Singer to direct after X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn bailed... again. The film will come out July 2014. First Class cast members James McAvoy (Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast) are reprising their roles in the sequel. Returning in supporting roles from the original X-Men trilogy are Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan. Hugh Jackman will also be involved, as are Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, and Ellen Page. No word yet on whether Halle Berry, James Marsden, or Famke Jansson will return. John Ottman hasn't been officially confirmed to compose, but since he and Singer have a working editorial and composing relationship... it's only a matter of time before he comes on.
  7. According to Latino Review's El Mayimbe on Twitter, he has the inside scoop on who will direct the long-gestating DC movie that teams up Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Flash. It was in the works long before last year's The Avengers revitalized WB's interest in it. http://twitter.com/e...565592906727424 And before people start questioning Latino Review's scoops as legitimate or not... they've broken over a dozen news that panned out. Such as Christian Bale getting cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman in 2004, Brandon Routh as Superman in 2005, and Heath Ledger cast as the Joker on July 2006. (You'll have to Google the news items, the original links are dead.) So it'll be a director WB likes, which could be dozens.
  8. Admin note: For earlier news before JJ Abrams was signed, see Disney buys Lucasfilm and all subsidiaries for $4.05billion, will release Star Wars Episode VII in 2015 J.J. Abrams is directing Episode VII So at least we know who's scoring it then. Karol
  9. - Crazy Picard - Enterprise destroyed because they didn't just rotate the shield modulation and apparently Data and Geordi forgot how to save the ship like they did for the entire show in far worse situations - Kirk falls off a bridge, or on the bridge - Borg have time travel technology and go to the day before First Contact - Disobeying Starfleet orders constantly and helping the Ba'ku - Dune buggy, Schinzon and basically everything in Nemesis Now, the TNG movies are guilty pleasures, don't get me wrong. Yet, the original series movies due to their generally higher quality and the consistency of the characters with the show feel more like a natural continuation of that series. TNG movies do not. It feels like they were farmed out to writers and people who had no idea what the hell Star Trek was about.
  10. Now that I finally got to hear the OST - the score Shore intended for The Hobbit - I feel it was fairly disrespectful to replace much of this masterful and profound production with music pretty much copy and posted from the original LOTR soundtracks. The soundtrack is simply great and I wish it would have been preserved in the film. Then I wonder about The Phantom Menace. We all know how Williams' score was chopped up and butchered for the final act. But what if Lucas had taken a similar route Jackson took and had actually placed familiair music from ESB or ROTJ in TPM instead of Williams' newly written score...? What if Darth Maul's appearance would suddenly be put to The Imperial March, completely ignoring Williams' new material for the scene...? Would that be something like the Nazgul music supporting an important scene involving Thorin in The Hobbit? Well, at least The Hobbit got a proper official release. So which score do you feel got the most disrespect in the editing room...?
  11. Describe the moment between the theater lights dimming and the fanfare blast for you. What was going through your head? I can't imagine what it must have been like. I try to think about what I would be thinking in that moment. Honestly I would probably wonder if the music for the titles would be different. If there would be a title crawl. If the text color would be different for that crawl. If the text might crawl right to left? I mean...at that point, it could have gone in any direction.
  12. Yesterday I watched E.T. in Bluray with 3 other people. 2 of them had never seen it. From that experience and from others too, I think I totally enjoy watching movies more, when I'm alone. You are totally isolated from the outside world and go deep inside the world of the movie. Yesterday, the comments, and sometimes in very inappropriate dramatic moments, didn't let me enjoy it, and also I was mad about them sometimes, although I didn't show it.. The viewing experience was ruined, and sometimes it ruins my opinion of the movie too.. For example, I was just thinking that now, everytime i want to watch this film, when i view a certain scene maybe I'll remember a bad joke someone mentioned, and I won't be able to get emotional and be dragged into the film.. I hope this doesn't happen... well, now that i think about it, maybe it depends on the movie. Maybe comedies are better watched with company (hmmm.. that's why i don't like comedies?) and the rest, alone. What do you think?
  13. I noticed that filmmusic posted a thread in another forum talking about his film watching and that the majority of the films he watched were pre -1960. I have no idea of the number of films I've seen, I would guess in the thousands, but I'd need a Leonard Maltin book to figure that. Still I seen many and forgotten many films but I do know I have a fondness for old films. I have always had a fondness for B movies from the black and white era. And not just horror movies, but old movie series, and mysteries. Of course I love new movies and always will. I do believe in the adage that they don't make them like they used too, but that is both a negative and a positive.
  14. Anyone interested in this movie and score? I loved Chris McQuarrie's The Way of the Gun (his sole directorial feature so far) and I always found the score by Joe Kraemer quite interesting, so I'm intrigued by this new feature. Now, as you may know, Jack Reacher is based on popular series of crime novels written by Lee Child (which I haven't read) and I know fans of the books were sorely disappointed by the choice of Tom Cruise as the leading character--in the books Reacher is described as a middle-aged big tough guy with dark blonde hair. However, the movie looks interesting mainly because it seems to harken back to 1970s action thriller stylings (i.e. The French Connection, Taking of Pelham 123, Scorpio, etc.), a favourite genre of mine. I was reading FSM's Tim Grieving http://projectorandorchestra.com/reaching-high/'>blog post about the film and when I read the following paragraph I was truly excited: This one looks like a score to look forward to. Here's the trailer for those who haven't seen it yet:

  16. The villain will be Electro played by Jaime Foxx, and Harry Osbourn will be in the movie as well http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/25693/foxx-dehaan-confirmed-for-spider-man-2
  17. Don't know if this was ever officially announced or not, but a new Morricone composition called "Ancora Qui" will appear on the Django Unchained soundtrack (and presumably in the film): http://www.comingsoo...ws.php?id=97485
  18. Hiya gang, With The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey now having premiered and people beginning to discuss it on twitter, etc, this is the thread where people can discuss the film and what is and isn't in it without ruining things for those who wish to remain spoiler-free. The existing thread was getting full of people speculating about specific scenes based on movie tie-in books and OST music, etc, with many people leaving the thread to not be spoiled. This is now the thread that that kind of discussion should take place in, while the old thread can be used for posts about buying tickets, and anything officially released like commercials, trailers, interviews, etc. Thanks for playing along!

  20. For those of you who don't know, Before Sunrise is a 1995 film starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy and it's about two people who meet on a train and spend a romantic night together but they know it's only their one night together. It's more of a romantic drama than a romantic comedy. Before Sunset is a 2004 film and it is set nine years later when our two characters meet again and have to deal with how each of their lives have turned out since their one night together. For myself, I think I would pick Before Sunrise because it's a little more pure and 'fairy-tale' like where the Jesse-Celine romance is being developed rather than the rather grounded Before Sunset which sheds Before Sunrise's escapism and deals with the aftermath of Before Sunrise.
  21. It looks like we are about to learn even more profound truths about our very existence. Karol
  22. Well, with the movie premiering tonight at midnight, its time to start this thread. This is a thread for people who have seen the movie to discuss it with one another. Our Inception Spoilers Allowed Discussion Thread was pretty successful and I'm sure this one will be more so. All discussion about the actual movie once seen should take place here, and not in the spoiler-free Anticipation thread. So if you don't want to be spoiled before you see the movie, but want to continue to discuss commercials, trailers, online reviews, etc, you should stay in that thread until you've seen it. In this thread, the movie can be discussed freely - no need to put spoiler tags in your posts if you don't want to. LAST CHANCE TO EXIT THE THREAD BEFORE POTENTIALLY SEEING A SPOILER!!! .
  23. Disney has released the teaser trailer for Sam Raimi's Wizard of Oz prequel Oz: The Great & Powerful in the wake of its Comic Con debut. [media=] It looks a lot better than I was expecting. I hope Danny Elfman can weave the same kind of magic he did for Alice in Wonderland three years prior.
  24. Terminator 5 and 6 are apparantly going to happen, with Arnold Schwarzenegger. http://www.moviehole.net/201254467schwarzenegger-locks-in-terminator-5-for-2013-start
