  1. Hello all, Perhaps some of you are aware of this, but we wanted to formally post this concert's information: http://life.royalalberthall.com/2013/07/ridley-scotts-gladiator-to-be-presented-live-at-the-royal-albert-hall/ This one is quite a production with a 90 piece orchestra, 80 piece choir, duduk/zurna solos, and with great excitement we will be joined by Lisa Gerrard singing the vocal solos. Hope to see some of you there! http://gladiatorlive.com/
  2. Recent posts have shown me that there are people here who truly like his music. Even if it's not all of it. This thread is to discuss his music properly, rather than just arguments or mentions or small side discussions in different threads. Talk about your favorite scores, cues, or anything else. I think the main problem on this forum is that people criticize what they don't know. Hans has so much good music that no one discusses. It's always the bad, and rarely the good, sometimes the ugly His non-action scores are brilliant, and I think those barely get discussion here.
  3. New Zimmer interview https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/culture/article/hans-zimmer-interview-2020
  4. Just finished the Hans Zimmer - Hollywood Rebel documentary. Main takeaways: Hans has the best samples, according to Nolan. He was an absent father who worked all the time. Life isn't as long as you think it is. You can live a playful life or you can live a life that excludes playfulness, and it doesn't get you anywhere. Playfulness gets you somewhere. Did Hans just share the meaning of life?
  5. Just to shatter your dreams once more: http://collider.com/hans-zimmer-interstellar/ “I wrote something…and I’m writing that. So, yes, we have started.” Hans Zimmer

  7. Now up for pre-order on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C2U6EUG/ Also, here's a CNN article about the score http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/05/showbiz/zimmer-man-of-steel/index.html?hpt=hp_bn9
  8. I've noticed one or two over the years, but Zimmer seems to do it more than I thought. There's the major obvious one here Then Zimmer just slowed it down a couple of years later - And then I've noticed that the love theme from Pirates 3 at 8:55 - 9:20 - Is clearly influenced in overall sound, style and even melody coming out of the crescendo of Arnold's love theme at 2:42 - 3:15. Which is of course the melody of Arnold song for the film called 'Surrender.' - And Zimmer must have loved Tomorrow Never Dies because he used another of Arnold's love themes from that film here at 1:02 - In Pearl Harbor... 1:29 -
  9. I love both this documentary series and its score, with a main theme by Hans Zimmer and music by Jacob Shea and Jasha Klebe, I am happy to own both the series and the score. Now it may not be popular here, but I highly recommend it. If you have seen it, start off by answering the poll. I will be reviewing by episode, in order. Share your reactions and comments. And go watch it!
  10. Interesting article in The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/film/filmblog/2017/sep/18/hans-zimmer-blade-runner-2049-film-composer
  11. According to the filmmusicreporter Hans Zimmer is scoring Ron Howard's Inferno which is the 4th Langdon book. No real surprise as he did the last 2 but after his work in DVC and A&D, what are your reactions? http://filmmusicreporter.com/2015/04/04/hans-zimmer-to-score-ron-howards-inferno/
  12. The OST is up on various Amazons, listed as an "import" on all of them - and therefore, quite expensive. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T5C3SHG/ http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00T5C3SHG/ http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00T5C3SHG/ http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00T5C3SHG/ http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B00T5C3SHG/ http://www.amazon.it/dp/B00T5C3SHG/ http://www.amazon.de/dp/B00T5C3SHG/ http://www.amazon.es/dp/B00T5C3SHG/ http://www.amazon.in/dp/B00T5C3SHG/ What's up with that? Anyways here's a clip of the film with Zimmer's score in it
  13. http://edition.cnn.com/2013/09/27/tech/innovation/hans-zimmer-seaboard-future-piano/?hpt=hp_c5 There's also other new instruments like The Reactable The Fingerboard Continuum The Swarmatron We'll wait and see until we hear this instrument on film scores (with the exception of the Swarmatron which was already used in a film score.)
  14. It's now up for pre-order on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B9JDBCK/
  15. Besides John Williams (of whom casual movie goers say "This sounds like Star Wars"), I think that Hans Zimmer is a very recognizable sound. I just want to see how many times Zimmer has taken motifs and melodies from himself! Time stamps if possible please. I think what inspired me to make this was that in some other thread, someone posted a Drop Zone cue which is basically He's A Pirate. Turns out they used that same Drop Zone cue in a trailer for Curse of the Black pearl.
  16. I was hesitant to bump this one back to the top, but it seemed the best place for this question, and the last thing I wanna do is start another Zimmer thread, so. . . . I had a chance to pick up Zimmer's A Thin Red Line a couple of days ago. I've kinda soured on him recently—this thread miiiiiiight have had something to do with that—so I let it go. It's been quietly nagging at me since. I've heard some say it's one of his finest scores. I'm wondering if I shouldn't take a chance. So you Zimmies out there, do your best to give me an honest assessment: where does this one stand amongst his repertoire? Is it worth the buy? (Actually, I might get a better read from the borderline Zimmer fans, or even some of his detractors. If a Hans-hatin' spouter tells me this one's actually pretty good, that would serve as quite an endorsement, yes?) - Uni
  17. Or do you just hate the majority of his output, but like some of his scores, and hate the "melting pot" approach to composing?
  18. This review is LONG overdue, but I haven't had time to write any reviews this past month. This is the first of many in my attempt to catch up. As for the review, I'd say I was being generous. http://musicmusekk.wordpress.com/2012/08/29/the-dark-knight-rises-hans-zimmer/ Enjoy! - KK
