Those of you who enjoy golden age film music might enjoy listening to the BBC Concert Orchestra's Music from Film Noir concert, which will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Monday 11th December at 7.30 p.m. I went to the concert yesterday evening at the Royal Festival Hall and it featured a lot of great music that is rarely heard in concert, as well as several pieces with which I was completely unfamiliar. Robert Ziegler conducted the BBC Concert Orchestra with Mark Kermode as host (and harmonica player on one of the pieces). http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09hs248 You can hear lengthy suites from Franz Waxman's Sunset Boulevard, Miklos Rozsa's The Lost Weekend and Double Indemnity and Leonard Rosenman's Rebel Without A Cause amongst others. There was also some lesser known music such as George Antheil's main title music from the Humphrey Bogart picture In A Lonely Place. The actress / singer Hannah Waddingham (off of Game of Thrones) sang three classic songs from Gilda and Dark Passage very ably too.

The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will be giving a concert of John Williams music in the spectacular outdoor setting of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. This might be of interest to any JW fans in the area on 15th June 2017. http://www.rpo.co.uk/whats-on/eventdetail/664/-/the-best-of-john-williams-at-blenheim-palace Blenheim Palace can be a bit tricky to get to, especially on a weekday evening, but there it is. The schedule for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is showing another concert devoted to John Williams at the Royal Albert Hall on 10th October 2014. Robert Ziegler conducts while Tommy Pearson presents. http://www.rpo.co.uk/event.php?pid=1555 When they did this in 2012 it was really good, not least because there was a huge choir (the Royal Choral Society) in selections such as Hymn to the Fallen, Duel of the Fates and Dry your tears, Africa! They've even made sure that it does not clash with England v San Marino the previous evening. ET is still AWOL in the publicity poster, though.
