  1. An anonymous tipster has sent JWFan some information that I can share with you now! The information is a list of cues that appeared in a cut of the film dated November 11th, 2019. Remember, the final day of recording sessions didn't happen until November 21st, and even by this cut some of the cues JW had written had already been dropped or replaced, so consider this a PARTIAL cue list: 1M01 Main Title 1M022 The Ninth Beginning 1M05 Rey Trains 1M06 Ren's Entrance 1M08 Approaching The Nursery 1M09 Rey Wakes Up 1M13 Tell Me What They Are 1M15 Vader's Castle 1M20 Rey Training 1M24 Meditation 1M26 Spy's Message 1M26 Lightspeed Skipping 2M01 Cockpit Dialog 2M02 Fixing The Helmet 2M03 The Wisdom of Maz 2M04 The Emperor Lives 2M06 The Medal 2M07 Ship Trip 2M20 The Forge 2M30 Rey's Mission 2M32 Quicksand 0M01 Children's School 3M00 Lando 3M01 Before The Chase 3M03 No Title 3M06 Knights of Ren 3M07 Ochi and the Dagger 4M01 Rey Senses Ren's Approach 4M02 Rey's Incredible Hand 4M04 Zucini? 4M05 To The End 4M05B Good Ship, Bad Ship 4M06 He Won't Remember 4M07 Rey's Grief 4M10 Red Eyes 4M11 Poe and Girlfriend 4M12 Ship Walk and Talk 5M01 Meddling and Poe's Crush 5M03 Hallway Shooting 5M05 Rey Sees Mother 5M06 Hard To Get Rid Of 5M07 I'm The Spy 5M08 Geneology 5M10 Landing At ? 5M12 Off The Waterfront 5M30 Under a Blanket 6M02 Rey Climbs Pipes 6M02A Climbing 6M04 Daisy In A Veil 6M05 Leia Lies Down 6M07 Stop and Start 6M08 Healing Wounds 6M12 Six Twelve 6M13 Rey's Trip To P 6M20 Sabre Toss 7M01 Seven One 7M02 Rey Meets Luke 7M03 Luke's Advice 7M04 The Meeting 7M05 March Of The Resistance 7M08 Father Knows Best 7M10 Leia's Sabre 7M12 Seven Twelve 7M12A Horses #2 7M20 Approaching The Throne 7M21 Parents 7M30 More Action 7M32 Make The Sacrifice 7M36 Dunkirk 7M38 I Am All The Sith 8M04 Psalm of the Sith 8M05 Jumping The Chain 8M07 Big Ship Blows Up 8M08 On Their Knees 8M10 Success and Sliding 8M11A Dropping The Sabre 8M14 Ben to Rey 8M15 Horn Solo 8M16 End Credits 9M03 Bows 9M05ALT Return to Tattooine The list also contains the two source pieces not composed by Williams: 2S35 JJ Festival Music 3S35 JJ Bar Source As well as the cue names from prior scores that were tracked into this cut: 13M2 from Ep.6 Vader's Death 7M03 from Ep.3 The Birth of the Twins 7M05 from Ep.3 Plans for the Twins 3M26R from Ep.7 You're Han Solo? 4M36R from Ep.7 I Ran Into You 5M46R from Ep.7 Kylo Stalks Rey 6M50R from Ep.7 Han and Leia Reunion 6M55R from Ep.7 Council Meeting 6M56E from Ep.7 Ren In Cockpit 8M77 from Ep.7 March Of The Resistance 4M36 from Ep.8 Luke and Rey UPDATE: Additional cue titles found in GEMA Repertoire: Chewie's Interrogation Emperor's Attack Emperor's Theme V3 Falcon's Last Trip Filial Fencing Hero Fight It Fits! 2. For those of you who want to discuss spoilers, do so here. Don't post any spoilers into the old TROS thread at all. Thank you!
  3. So by my calculations, there's almost 45 minutes of unreleased music heard in the final film, though it's still unclear how much of that is old recordings tracked in... Or a special album-only opening? ~ Original main post: In this thread you can discuss the entire score, as heard in the film itself, the OST, the FYC, or anywhere else, without using spoiler tags. Of course, in the early days here, you can certain put very spoiler-y things in tags for the time being. The point of this thread is so those people who want to discuss the OST album without reading anything about the film can stay in that thread, and only come in here after they've seen the film. @Thor, feel free to copy and paste the paragraph you just posted about the score in the film thread into this thread too
  4. Not talking studio recordings, but that would be lovely. Just anything, really.
  5. In this thread feel free to openly discuss the entire OST album (and FYC album) including all track titles, BUT DO NOT POST ANY MOVIE SPOILERS. If you want to discuss how the music on this album relates to the plot leaks, head on over to The Rise of Skywalker SPOILERS ALLOWED discussion thread. If you've seen the film and want to to discuss music you heard in it that is not on the OST album, head on over to The Rise of Skywalker - COMPLETE SCORE as heard in the film Discussion - SPOILERS ALLOWED! If you want to post about where to buy the digital edition, ordering or receiving your physical copy, post pictures of it, etc, head over to The Rise of Skywalker - Disney Records OST Also, this is a thread to discuss the music itself. This is not a thread to ask people where you can illegally download it, nor a place to ask people to PM you information on how to illegally download it. Posts of that nature will be deleted and repeated offenses will result in a ban. If the album isn't legally for sale in your country yet and you want to hear it, google is your friend, then come back here to only discuss the contents, not how you obtained it. 6. I think we now know why Williams chose not to put these on the album. Falcon Flight always seemed to be a little too different from the Williams sound and it seems that Haab's music laid the foundation for it. There's also similarities with Solo. Battlefront II was seemingly composed first. Haab said he was surprised when he saw Solo in the theater because of this.
  7. Breaking his own record as the most nominated living person, receiving his 52nd Oscar Nomination! Congratulations Maestro! The 5 nominees: Joker (Hildur Guðnadóttir) Little Women (Alexandre Desplat) Marriage Story (Randy Newman) 1917 (Thomas Newman) Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (John Williams)
  8. Hello, it's not the professor here this time. Just me I will try my best though, because this track is awesome! My Hello, what have we here? / You are imagining things section: 0:00-0:26 violins of quiet tension, to my ears slowly whispering the Anthem of Evil, with little counterpoint, but close to the end the counterpoint imitates the closing notes of the theme 0:26-0:27 a moment of music "taking notice" that something is not right, with a TROS-signature pronounced harp. Now the middle strings add some pedal tension. 0:27-0:44 some meandering counterpoint nebulously related to the Anthem of Evil (?) 0:44-0:57 horns enter end the music slowly grows to an orchestral swell and 0:58-1:25 what follows is a beautiful, marche funebre statement of the Anthem of Evil, which stylistically reminds me of lyrical Southern Slavonic folk tunes, such as those used at the beginning of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 and Tchaikovsky's Serbo-Russian March. And... you know... Chopin and Mahler. 1:25-1:45 some harmonic transitions related to the Anthem of Evil (?), strongly driving towards a mightier re-statement of the theme. - 1:25-1:30 marvelously orchestrated moment of boiling emotions, with tension rising through the tremoli and the foregrounding of higher and higher pitched instrumental voices. - 1:30-1:45 brooding aftermath of the turnmoil, with some wave-like motion of the strings and the harp, pulsation of figures, and the entrance of strings hinting at encroaching madness in the Psycho language. 1:45-2:05 a dominating brass statement of the Anthem of Evil, with a combined accompaniment of the "boiling" and the "pulsation" ideas. 2:05-2:38 This is tough. Unless I am missing something big, it sounds like a melodic combination of a suffocated semitonal March of the Resistance(?) with a dark and regal spelling of Jedi Steps, and then 2:19-2:22 the Force Theme trying to get through. Then 2:22-2:38 is a prolonged reprise of this composite melody. In this section I am especially impressed by the playing of the LA musicians. Marvelous. 2:39-2:50 Rey's Theme rising in an ambiguous fanfare full of tension. The decision to embrace the Dark Side in the air. 2:54-2:58 Whether it's a bass trombone, a contrabass trombone, or just a plain old tuba, it's playing a part of the Anthem of Evil 2:59-3:22 action music related to the Falcon adventure at the beginning of the film ensues. - 3:15-3:16 A quick and nice Kylo Ren motif 3:22-3:30 Rey's Theme, followed by the same style of imitative counterpoint as the Anthem of Evil at the beginning of the track 3:30-3:38 an atmospheric ending on a note of darkness not being quite done yet What a little masterpiece
  9. Considering the last poll was long before we had a clearer idea of The Rise of Skywalker and its storyline, I figured it was worth updating our prediction thread with some more specific questions.
  10. Some REAL updates from Don Williams (JW’s brother and his usual timpanist) grabbed during a meeting at theAcademy of Scoring Arts lecture: Looks like the sessions began a couple of weeks ago and will continue through August and September, with a couple of weeks break because of JW’s commitments at Tanglewood. Don talks about 135 minutes of music (gasp!)
  11. I put it on repeat most of the day .At least 15-20 times by now. I love this, it's kind of a mix of theme from Jurassic Park with Harry Potter Might end up one of my favorite concert versions ever and one of his most beautiful.

What's that stand for? For Your Consideration. Basically, Disney setup a website where eligible voters for the various awards that are given out around the end of the year could learn where they could attend a screening of their films, see which awards the films were pushing for, and listen to selections of the score for Best Score nominations. For the films that had score selections, they are exactly what is heard in the film, and sometimes include music not on the commercial soundtrack albums! So the music here is different than the album? Yes! Some tracks are almost the same, but the structure of the FYC program is fundamentally different; It is a selection of music from the movie exactly as it appears in the final cut of the film, even if the music used in the film was edited from Williams' original intentions. This could mean that a track might contain an Insert Williams later wrote, where the OST presented his original version; or a track might contain less music than its OST counterpart of the scene was re-edited after the recording of the music, or even a track might contain some music artificially looped or stretched if a scene got lengthened after scoring. The FYC always reflects these non-intended conforms to final picture from start to finish. So does the FYC contain the complete score? Certainly not. The FYC is only 50 minutes long. Which tracks contain music that is not on the OST album? We won't know that until the OST album is available to hear. Where can I find this FYC? https://disneystudiosawards.com/star-wars-score.html https://disneystudiosawards.com/star-wars-rise-of-skywalker/score In case Disney later removes this page, it is archived permanently here: https://web.archive.org/web/20191210202934/https://disneystudiosawards.com/star-wars-score.html I don't see a download link there; How do I download the files from Disney's site? In case Disney ever takes the files down, they are archived permanently here: The files on Disney's site have really low bitrate of 192kbps; Is there any chance its available uncompressed somewhere? Disney should be mailing out pressed physical CDs with the FYC program to Academy music department voters sometime soon. Usually not long after that, they begin turning up on ebay, and not long after that, lossless rips appear online. NOTE: It is against the board's rules to ask for a lossless rip in the public forum. Use the PM System or go to other websites for that discussion! Posts asking for illegal downloads will be deleted! 14. With the release of The Rise of Skywalker, we finally get to hear Williams giving his final send-off to the Star Wars franchise. With it, one can't help but bring about comparisons to another composer and his send-off to another beloved space franchise. I speak, of course, of Goldsmith's Star Trek: Nemesis. While the two scores differ in that, while Williams went into TROS knowing this would be his last Star Wars score, Goldsmith did not have the same benefit of going into Nemesis knowing this would be his last say on Trek. That said, both scores I feel work well as far as providing some sort of feeling of finality to these composers and their respective journeys with these franchises that they had been a part of for decades. Listening to both scores, one can't help but feel, although perhaps imposed retroactively in the case of Nemesis, that the proverbial book is being shut by each composer. With Nemesis, we are hit with lovely numbers like this one... ...which see our emotional buttons being pressed in ways not identical but certainly not entirely dissimilar to what Williams gives us in TROS: Alongside heightened emotions, the films bring new villainous motifs to the table: Enough blabbing. Which score do you feel serves as a better send-off for the composer with their franchise?
  15. Jay-Dubs with the only other contributor to all 9 films, the insufferable Anthony Daniels: Love that JJ is right next to Williams here, which shows just how highly he regards him. Also very telling that Williams is the only crew member on stage here, other than the writer/director, senior producers and heads of Disney/Lucasfilm: Williams with Lando (discussing their delicious love for Leia) and Indiana Jones, who demanded John start writing his themes for Indy 5 before Christmas: Apparently John spoke to the audience, in a scene eerily reminiscent of Palpatine's speech to the Senate in Revenge of the Sith. He discussed, at great length, his immense displeasure at Giacchino's interpretations of his themes in Rogue One: And last but not least, Williams with Ridley... while friendzoned Boyega and Daniels photobomb JW's happy moment:
  16. Haven't been paying much attention to this thread, but are the sessions still going? Saw this today: I wonder if these 300 bars could be from TROS? Could be any film though really...
  17. Some great stuff in here! For one, his energy and enthusiasm are remarkable. He also crushes on Daisy again, and even on Billy Dee Williams a little bit! haha
  18. My favorites are easily FALCON FLIGHT, and the cool Anthem of Evil passage in Prologue Second place would be Parents for dat choir, or To Kimiji for its nice Trio Theme passages, and the missing minute of The Old Death Star
