Oh sure, you could post about it in the What’s The Last Film You Watched (Older Films) thread. But they won’t understand you there. They won’t embrace your illogical appreciation for Cinema of the Weird. I thought it might be nice to have a thread for the underdogs. The films that usually don’t start with much, but swing for the fences with gusto. Most of these types of films lean into genre rather than drama. Let’s watch and discuss bona fide Cult Classics and unknown gems lost to time. You won’t be judged for liking a film by Fulci, Rollin, Naschy, Meyer, Lenzi, Brass, or Martino or any other nameless Schlock. Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) to score ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ movie. Okay, now this is epic.

This morning I listened to a 2014 recording by the BBC Concert Orchestra on Spotify. I don't think it correspond to a physical album. The playing is good, but it contains a way too much echo for me, but the thing is they recorded the End Titles from The Empire Strikes Back. Well, I think it's worth of mention. Except the Gerhardt version, I don't remember any other re-recording of this piece. Please feel free to share your own discoveries!

I recently purchased my first Criterion Collection title (The Dr. Strangelove Blu-ray digipak). Awesome transfer, and the cover and supplemental material are great as well. Any recommendations for the best first titles a new collector should pick up? Your personal favorites?

Which iconic 80s adventure film and score do you prefer; Spielberg/Williams' Raiders of the Lost Ark or Zemekis/Silvestri's Back to the Future?

What are some movie antagonists from this century that you believe will be remembered as some of cinema's most memorable, iconic villains years from now? Here's my top three. Which Spielberg monster movie (and respective score) do you prefer; Jaws or Jurassic Park? On a technical level, Jurassic Park handily beats the somewhat dated effects in Jaws, but so great is the power of the storytelling in Jaws that I personally find the later to be much more compelling. The suspense is crafted brilliantly. Every line of dialogue is pure gold. The characters are likable and well-written. The film has easily one of the greatest monologues in cinema history (Quint's story of the U.S.S Indianapolis). It succeeds not only as an entertaining popcorn flick, but also as a rich human drama and a chilling mortality tale. There's no doubt in my mind that Jaws is the superior film, by far. Williams' score for Jurassic Park is truly great and memorable, but Jaws just barely edges it out, in my opinion.

So...I've never been a great fan of Jerry Goldsmith, but I think it's more out of a lack of familiarity than any perceived defect in his work. I'm also interested in experiencing for myself how his technique and approach differs from Williams. I think my lack of familiarity probably stems from the fact that he scored so many bad movies, or at least has that stigma. So I want to know--what are some of the best films that he worked on? Or films that would have been mediocre without his score? For a frame of reference, I've seen Patton and Planet of the Apes and liked them both (films and scores).
