OFFICIAL John Williams Top Ten Cue List

Recommended Posts

Ok fellow JW Fans, here it is.

The year is 2006, we have nothing to look forward to at the moment.

We've had 4 major releases in the last year, but plenty of time to digest each of them.

Several years ago we did the OFFICIAL TOP TEN JOHN WILLIAMS ALBUMS.

At that time others wanted to do a Top 10 cue list, but we never got around to doing it. Believe me its alot of work to do this.

So, here are the rules, please follow them, or your choices may not be counted.

1. Please list your Top 5 cues. Yes thats right, just list your TOP 5 cues.

But wait a minute, this is a Top 10 cue list, but since there are so many more cues than albums, I ask that you limit them to 5. I will still be able to come to a consensus on the Top 10 based on your choices.

If you put more than 5, I will just count the first 5. If you put them in order with no preference then the preference will be based on your order.

2. You must put the album it comes from That way, say what if Poster X puts down a Jaws cue that is identical to Poster Y's cue from a different Jaws release, I will know how to count it.

These are simple rules, please follow them, and your choices will be counted.

Well let this run for at least until June 1st, and then I will start to put it together.

5 is tough, but here goes. EDIT: NOW IN ORDER

Harry's Wondrous World - HP:PS version (2001 OST if you want an actual album)

The Asteroid Field - ESB (1997 SE)

Prologue - Hook (1991 OST)

Remembrances - Schindler's List (1993 OST)

Where Dreams are Born - AI (2001 OST)

And before anyone says anything, I know Adventures on Earth isn't there. Deal with it.

Good idea for a topic, by the way Joe. Looking forward to see what the winners are.

1. "Lifting Susan" - The Fury (2-CD limited ed./complete score)

2. "Throne Room/End Title" - Star Wars (RCA)

3. "The Miracle of the Ark" - Raiders of the Lost Ark (expanded release)

4. "Epilogue" - The Fury (2-CD limited ed./original soundtrack album)

5. "Munich, 1972" - Munich (original soundtrack album)

"Lifting Susan" 3:23-3:39 - if that isn't the most apocalyptic music I've ever heard. It's incredible, but it can't be fully appreciated without the support of the rest of the track.

Journey to the Island (JP)

Harry's Wondrous World (HP:PS)

Going to School (MoaG)

The Ballroom Scene, Alternate (Witches of Eastwick, complete)

Overture (The Cowboys, not original album but same content - no idea where it came from originally)

I chose the alternate Ballroom Scene because of the deeper rendition starting at 1:12 - makes the melody sound so incredibly rich :D

So I'm assuming you mean 'track', and not necessarily 'cue', which is different, as some cues are edited or never released on an album. In any event, this is extremely difficult, as it should be, to limit it to 5. Curse you!

My Top 5, in order, are as follows:

1. Escape-Chase-Saying Goodbye (E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: 20th Anniversary)

2. The Visitors-Bye-End Titles (Close Encounters of the Third King: Special Edition '98 Arista)

3. Journey to the Island (Jurassic Park OST)

4. Farewell Neverland (Hook OST)

5. The Rebel Fleet-End Title ('The Empire Strikes Back '97 RCA)

Chances are, since there is so much time left until these tracks are compiled, I will be biting my nails over the choices. I will try to keep them as is. Right now I'm pretty happy about them. :)

This is like Sophie's Choice. Almost impossible to pick just 5 but if I had to choose only 5 that I'd be allowed to listen to:

1. TIE: Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981 Polydoor CD) & Desert Chase (Raiders Of The Lost Ark - DCC CD)

2. Escape / Chase / Saying Goodbye (E.T. 2002 CD)

3. Darth Vader's Theme (Imperial March) (Empire Strikes Back 1997 RCA CD)

4. Can You Read My Mind (Love Theme From Superman) (2001 Rhino CD)

5. Rememberances (Schindler's List 1993 MCA CD)

Ray/Chris is absolutely correct.

trying to get 6 for 5 won't work with me.

Alright, alright. These are the top 5 that I'm writing down and I'm not going to look at it again. Damn this is tough.

2. Prelude and Main Title March- Superman (Rhino complete)

3. Indy's First Adventure- Last Crusade (OST- although the unreleased section is the best part of the cue)

5. The Quidditch Match- Sorcerer's Stone (OST)

Alright....my absolute #1 choice will have to be:

Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981 Polydor).

I am a bit confused as this shows up as 'End Credits' on the DCC version. But you know the Version of the Raiders march I mean. So for this exercise which title do I and others use?

Polydor: 1. Raiders Of The Lost Ark

DCC Expanded: 18. End Credits

Will they both be counted as the same thing like

'Escape/Chase/Saying Goodbye' and 'Adventures On Earth' will Be?

1) The Battle of Endor II (Return of the Jedi - 1997 Edition)

2) Adventures On Earth (E.T. - 2002 Re-release)

3) You Are The Pan (Hook - Original Album)

4) Journey to the Island (Jurassic Park - Original Album)

5) Leia's News/Light of the Force (Return of the Jedi - 1997 Release)

This may change, though. It was incredibly hard for me to come up with this list.

I think this thread should be made a sticky again so that it doesn't slip to page 2. I'm interested to see how this turns out.

Since Joe's idea for the Top Ten list a few years ago is what actually got me to register here, I'll be more than happy to participate in this list as well.

#1 - The Cowboys Overture (By Request)

#2 - Journey to the Island (Jurassic Park)

#3 - The 'Float' (Catch Me If You Can)

#4 - Fawkes the Phoenix (The Chamber of Secrets)

#5 - The Battle of Hoth (The Empire Strikes Back Disc 1 [1997])

Anthony - who can think of about a dozen more tracks that deserve to be in the list.
