Popular Post Edmilson 7,439
I was browsing JNH's Spotify page today and came across with this single, a cover of the theme from A Hidden Life by Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing and the Arctic Philharmonic. It's great, though it doesn't sound all that different from the OST version. Thor, Bespin and Yavar Moradi 1
Popular Post Bespin 8,481
Added the album 'Night After Night' (2023) to my collection, where James Newton Howard brilliantly revisits his film scores for M. Night Shyamalan, even adding new music. It's the kind of 'concept' album I love! Mr. Who, Tallguy and Yavar Moradi
12-Mile Reef 123
I just came across this nice short piece for violin: I see he wrote it at the request of Hilary Hahn for her 2013 album 'In 27 Pieces'. It has also been recorded by James Ehnes: Mr. Who

Night Shyamalan, Host Gil Shaham, Violin Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Piano Critically acclaimed film director, producer, and screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan will host an evening to celebrate one of the most successful collaborations between a contemporary film director and a composer—Shyamalan and the Emmy® and GRAMMY®–winning composer and nine-time Oscar® nominee James Newton Howard. This performance highlights Howard’s haunting scores that became part of the identity of eight of Shyamalan’s eerie, mind-bending thrillers—The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, The Last Airbender, and more. Howard will lead Your Philadelphia Orchestra with special appearances by pianist Jean Yves Thibaudet and violinist Gil Shaham in this incredible one-night-only event! Popular Post GerateWohl 4,365
At last I found an album to enjoy the highlights these scores. For me that's all I need from that film series. Beautiful selection and performances. Bespin, Thor and Jurassic Shark 2

All I ever need of those scores. I've touted that album a few times over the last couple of years. GerateWohl
Richard Penna 3,687
Listening now and totally agree - it's a nicely performed selection. My only observation would be that tracks 3-5 are a bit heavy on Rue's theme. Very little from the second half of the album is in my playlist as I didn't particularly go for either score, so a re-recording is an interesting alternative way in. Thor 7,503
A JNH concert sounds great, but clicking at the link, only post-millennium scores are mentioned in the blurb, which I (for the most part) find underwhelming. If this had focussed on the 80s and 90s stuff, I'd be totally envious of anyone able to attend. Jurassic Shark
JNHFan2000 2,961
I saw Howard in 2017. That concert was the perfect blend between his pre and post millennium stuff!
leeallen01 2,136
Any update on the night after night phily concert? Tickets aren't on sale by the looks of it. I might fly from the UK if I can. For sure he'll make the selection and have some dinosaur and treasure planet type stuff in there too.
